Got in another awesome night of baseball at PNC park. Spent a while today talking with my friend about the game as we circled our loop, lost count, and found ourselves doing a few extra miles than planned. Returning to Florida tonight, so glad to put in a few extra miles to get ahead of schedule as I won't enjoy running in the heat later this week.

I actually got out and ran this morning with no pain in my knee (YAY!!) My glutes and hamstrings were super tight but mostly likely a result of the hour I put in on the bike at the gym yesterday. Taking a week off from running is definitely torture and I am hoping it won't impact my half too much. Starting a lower mileage week and then taper next week. @Aresende90 - glad to see you are back running too! @LittlePinkShotgun - I commiserate with you! It is terrible being off and a double edged sword living vicariously here. I read all the updates but it made me want to be out running really really badly. What is worse is it was beautiful running weather while I was off, nice and cool, and now it is hot, hot, hot again!
@7lenny7 - love the sailing route!
@_nikkiwolf_ - Good job running those stairs! Hope you find that good looking samaritan (another runner!) and that you just bump into them and not need CPR
@Wendy1Fl - Yay for small victories! Hope you are feeling better all around!
Welcome @CancerSurvivor2014
@kristinegift - looks like a wonderful place to run! I have not found anything that lovely here (yet)!
@melaniefave41 - at home I go barefoot or wear shoes I can put my orthotics in. The sports doctor wants me to wear them all the time but my feet need air Also who wants to only wear shoes that an orthotic will work in - there are too many fun cute shoes and strappy sandals to wear! I don't wear flipflops though - they hurt my feet. I am curious about the Sanuks. I saw them at the running store but have not tried them.melaniefave41 wrote: »WhatMeRunning wrote: »While I felt less beat up at 5am today I decided to take a break today and slept in. A little regret but more satisfaction about it than regret. I do need to get my appetite under control during this upcoming reduced mileage week. It seems to be rest days when the appetite worked up from the previous days miles kicks in so I'm trying to be extra mindful of what I eat.
Exactly. My rest days could more accurately be described as eat/nap/eat/nap/walk/eat days. No worries though, calories work like rollover minutes.

18 minutes today. I have been worried because my leg seems a bit achy when I am at rest but it hasn't been hurting at all when I run. I think I am psyching myself out a bit.

@Elise4270 Love doctors without borders program. I work in health care and have been contemplating joining the peace corps.
Wow! That's awesome. I looked into the peace corps for my son. He has a gypsy spirit and a heart of gold. It looked like most of the positions were held by degrees. He's 20, no college. And hasn't found his passion or a spark . My husband thought its be a great thing to do near retirement. It may be in the cards at some point.0 -

Welcome @mommarobb! This group will absolutely support you to your weight loss and running goal!0 -
@shanaber The Sanuks feel similar to being bare foot to me. I walk miles and miles in them and even wore them working long shifts in the ER. Not smart as they're definitely not going to protect me from fluids and what not, but physically I do better with less. There's really nothing to them, I joke that they're only enough shoe to keep me from getting thrown out of public places! Glad you were able to run today!
@Elise4270 Fantastic run today! About the Peace Corps.... I first looked at joining it when I was younger and spoke with a rep who did suggest I finish school first. Well, now I'm close to being done but have a dog and a lot of debt, so it might have to wait another decade. Lol. Have you heard of Ameri Corps? That might be a good option for your son.0 -
4.6 hot miles tonight (84F) in my brand new Glycerin 12's. I was going to run this morning but when I saw that temps at the start of my 10K on Saturday are forecast to be 80F, I decided to get used to running in the heat. Thankfully it was as humid as predicted.
The new shoes felt pretty good, but I need to adjust the laces a bit I believe. My old shoes only have 160 miles on them, but I going to run in the new ones for a couple of weeks to try them out within the 30 day return policy. Wednesday my new Nimbus shoes come in!
Welcome to all the new folks!!
@mwyvr, we were on a 1992 Hunter 33.5. Our friend owns it but he's looking for a bigger, newer boat. We'll be buying his old boat when that happens. We're both excited and scared about the prospect of owning a 33' sailboat, but our entire family absolutely loves sailing, so we're going all in. He hopes to have his new boat by the end of the summer so we're lining up sailing lessons. He let's us sail it now, but we want something more formal and exhaustive. I've started scoping out the running trails in the area in preparation for spending weekends on the boat. BTW, I love seeing your pictures. Beautiful running!!
@kristinegift, I just noticed the background on your profile picture...that's the Stone Arch Bridge! Are you near Minneapolis?
@shanaber, glad to see you back on the road!
@dennie24, That happens to me too. I feel fine after a run, but once I sit at my desk at work for an hour, I start to stiffen up a bit, particularly in my legs. It always goes away after moving around a bit.

@melaniefave41 Yes I suggested AmeriCorps after I looked in to the peace corps. I also suggested he look into the Red Cross. He hasn't, so I won't push him. Gentle encouragement and support is all I can offer.
Those Sanuks sound awesome. Ive been toying with the idea of a minimal shoe.0 -
@skippygirlsmom A year sounds like an awful long time to be away from your spouse, hope it goes fast for you! If I catch anything noteworthy, I will be sure to tell about it.0

HA!
Officially ran a mile!!!
7.14.15.... 1 Mile... 12 min Treadmill incline sprints
jogged briskly 1/4 mile to warm up- cranked that *kitten* up and ran 30 second intervals with a 60-75 second rest (lord sprints- uphill- don't judge me) for 1/2 mile. Then I cranked it back down to like 3.5 and ran the last 1/4 mile at a decent cool down pace.
so. 1 of some magical number of miles.

@kristinegift, I just noticed the background on your profile picture...that's the Stone Arch Bridge! Are you near Minneapolis?
@7lenny7 I was! That was taken about 5 minutes after I finished the Minneapolis Marathon at the end of May The bridge made for a beautiful view for the finish and a great photo op!0 -
Felt better today so I broke in those new Brooks that arrived yesterday. Ran the same route I took a year ago today when I first started running. Although at that time it was my regular walking route and on that day I did a lot more walking than running. No walking today though.

Oooooh such a terrible run today. I'm on antibiotics for an eye infection and apparently, they're dehydrating me or something because I can't drink enough water, I'm cramping all over, and just generally feeling awful after my run this morning. Oh well. I might wait until the end of the week and I'm off the meds to go for another run and opt for some indoor cardio instead.

@7lenny7 Thanks for all the amazing ideas, but flight troubles yesterday left me with not enough sleep and a horrible 'fueling' situation (I usually eat 6 small meals, yesterday was pretty much only 1 big one) so i didn't get to try any of them. I will give it a go next time I'm in town. As it was I ended up jralking 6 on the treadmill this morning. (Note: jralk is my own creation - a combination of jog/run/walk).

Miss a day or three and and no chance of catching back up in this thread. I guess that's a good thing though, everyone is out getting fit
Slowly getting back to running. Shin pain is gone but now I have bad calf pain. I can roll it out and stretch it but its very irritating to run on.
Good news is I finally upgraded from the FR10 to a shiny new FR225. Very nice watch, does everything I wanted and then some. Very happy with my purchase

7/6 - 3.1 miles; planned for 5 but got completely washed out by huge rain
7/7 - seem to have got a summer cold...slept in, no run
7/8 - getting worse...ugh! May be a sinus infection. Nothing worse than being sick in the summer!
7/9 - still sick...blah.
7/10 - heading out of town for a baseball tournament...still have a cold.
7/11 - FINALLY! 3.5 miles on hotel treadmill (22.6 for month)
7/12 - more baseball...son's team won 9 year-old state championship! Woo hoo!

7/14 - 5 miles, still pretty hot, but not as humid as yesterday. Because of all the missed days from illness, adjusting my goal down to 100.

As a (mostly) lurker around here, I just wanted to give a shout-out to @kimr41 - I love that you're just poking your head up occasionally and posting up some miles! Keep at it - I know it looks intimidating sometimes to see the mileage some of these folks post up, but I hope you're seeing that they're also some awesome and helpful people to boot. I call myself a runner, but mostly I'm just addicted....0
