Any of you guys out there run in ASICS Gel Nimbus 17's? Here you can get them for $99, with free shipping, and free return:
    http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/asics-gel-nimbus-17-running-shoe-men-online-only/4074753

I posted this before but at that time you had to have a Nordstrom account to get in on the sneak preview sale. Now it's open to all.

Unfortunately this is only for the men's version.

    Kids....

As I mentioned, my daughter and I are planning on doing a 5K tomorrow night. It starts at 7:30 and I just found out that she works until 6:30 to 7:00, depending on how busy they are. She works about 20 minutes from the start line. Last year this even had 5000 entrants! Parking is going to be a bear!

I'll have to see if I can find someone to drop us off near the start line. Thankfully already have our bibs so we don't have to pick those up. We may or may not be running tomorrow. Good thing I'm only in this for the fun, because it might be an adventure just getting to to the start.

8 miles of Fartleks on the treadmill at the hotel yesterday. I'm back home and supposed to do 6 easy today but woke up to a bit of a row with Mrs 419er. Emotional situations really sap my running energy. I don't want to go.

I'm sure I'm breaking some sort of Netiquette rule by quoting my own post...

However - I got out there and did the 6. My motivation was really wrong. Basically I was back to eating "emotionally" today and realized MFP would ding me for not hitting my calorie goal if I didn't run. So I ran. Then I added everything I've eaten into MFP. I guess the good thing is I don't have too much crap in the house - by the time I added everything up it was still pretty healthy!

I'm now just under 100 miles from logging my first 2000.

Quick poll: have you ever run when you were upset? And did it make you run better or worse?

I was upset yesterday, so instead of eating the pint of ice cream in the freezer I went for 5.5 mile run. . . I had a hard time breathing and my chest felt heavy for the first few miles..i kept having to stop to seriously catch my breath. It went away after a little while..anyone ever experience this? I thought my feelings would fuel my workout...not so much..:/

Well - as my posts from today make it clear - emotional situations do not make motivate me to run - nor do I run well, even when I get myself up to do it. However, I always come to the end of the run feeling better. It's pretty clear to me that the "runner's high" is a real thing - definitely for me, anyway.

What annoys me about myself (humanity?) is that I do such a sucky job of knowing what will make me happy. It's like I don't even believe my memory sometimes. I know I'm bummed. I'm pretty sure that every time I run I feel better - but in THAT MOMENT I do the mental math and somehow come to the conclusion that one more snack/bar/shake/skinny cow/whatever is actually going to make me feel better this time[/i]than staying on my running plan or gorging on endorphins.

Now I realize you said "upset" and not "bummed" - and it looks like your definition of "upset" is "pissed" whereas mine is "sad" - but the same is true in both cases for me.

So, to finally answer your question directly, does it make my run better? nope. Does it make me better? always.

For me it depends on the type of upset I am. I have found that if I am stressed or need to work through something in my head then running is a great outlet for me. In those cases it will fuel my running and I will come back refreshed and rejuvinated. However, sometimes when the "upset" is just too overwhelming I end up feeling like you did - that overly anxious, tight chest feeling. Either way I am always glad that I chose to run vs other less healthy outlets.

Tonight I ran outside since it had cooled down after a nice rain. I wish it was always as nice temp wise as it was this evening. Ran 3.5 miles, at my fastest pace (which is still very slow, but it's a great improvement for me, at an average of 10:46 per mile, and the first half of the run was at a 10:07 per mile average, so yay me). This gives me a total of 27.75 miles for the month.

    7/21: Rest/XT day

Actually cross-trained today, resisting the strong urge to nap instead. Ended up doing 46:30 on the bike (14 miles) which got me through an entire X-Files episode on Netflix. It felt good to get a decent low-impact workout in, but my butt is going to hurt from that darn bike seat tomorrow! It's been months since I rode a bike of any kind!

Tomorrow is my long run day...but the trainer today had me work on legs. I'll play it by ear tomorrow, I guess. I'm ok right now. I'm planning on running outside, very early.

Does anyone run without eating beforehand? I normally have a scoop of protein powder in my coffee, but I'm running so early that I'm not sure I'll want anything.

I've got 59.9/80 completed. Did 4.5 today. On the dreadmill. In socks. My Sunday run may have possibly made the skin tear on top of my foot a little worse.... I want it to heal, but don't want to miss out on training. Glad I kept my gym membership.
