Now That I Can Eat...Always Hungry

Basically what my title says....
I'm at maintenance, new to it...just started a few days ago, and now that I can eat more I'm always hungry!
The sad thing is my maintenance calories aren't much more than my deficit calories since I'm only 5'1" 107ish pounds.
(deficit = 1200 maintenance= 1370 per MFP)
Anyway...anyone else experiencing this?
If you aren't now but have before, how long did it take for it to go away?
I'm still staying w/in my calories/slightly below so weight gain is not really a concern (I worked way too hard to go back!) but the hunger is driving me crazy! Ugh!

Yes I have this problem, best way to get calories back is through excercize, even at 5'1" you can get 500 to 1000 more calories with a long run! Like a 10K gives me about 500 and I'm 5'2" Good luck!0

That only happens to me when I have too many simple carbs. If I keep my protein up and simple carbs and refined sugars in check, I don't get that raging hunger. If I do partake, that raging hunger comes back and the feeling might last through the next day until my body readjusts, but I just power through it and by the second day I'm fine. But there ain't no way, for example, that I'm skipping pecan pie on Thanksgiving... so I deal with it for a day or two and then I'm okay again.0

Oh didn't think of that! LOL! I don't really keep track now that I can't have anymore babies... but maybe...
That could explain it.
I am enjoying eating the bit more that I can, but it just seemed when I ate less I was less hungry... Now that I think about it, I guess my body got used to the low calories it and now it just has another thing to get used to...the slightly higher calories before it's comfortable again.0 -

I feel it's better to listen to your body than MFP. This is really meant to help track, motivate, celebrate - but if you're always hungry then your body is clearly looking for more food. You may want to eat more good fats like avocado, nuts, seeds, etc - those can be great calories, and definitely won't make you gain weight. Raw nuts are very alkaline, try if you can to stay away from roasted/salted nuts. Anyway, just listen to your body and you can find your right groove - that's the bottom line0

I've been working really hard on upping my protein intake.
I read protein
fat
and then carbs.
I'm trying... but carbs are in everything so when I'm trying to meet the protein and fat goals, I'm still taking in carbs! It's quite irritating!
I eat a lot of tuna and chicken but I can only eat so much of it before I get sick of it.
I'm also supplementing some of it w/ protein shakes.
Low calorie shakes, w/ 30 G of protein, so I can stay w/in my calorie allotment.0 -

Thanks for the advice!!! We'll see... Like I said I just started maintenance so not sure if this is going to last or eventually just taper off... if it doesn't I will experiment w/ eating more.
And I love avocados! We have a tree so I eat them A LOT!0 -

Same thing here. I was quite content on 1200 cals/day but now on maintenance with 1470 I am starving and have to fight the cravings.
I am not eating anything different just a little more of my usual.
It is driving me crazy too.0 -

I'm sure some weeks I might average 1900. I think it's a struggle for me because I really bank calories for the weekend. There's no way I could maintain my weight eating at maintenance every day and then trying to wing the weekends.0

I was averaging about 30mins 4 times a week but I'm taking a break because I've been feeling a bit burned out.
But the thing is I don't trust exercise calories so I pretty much never eat them back...only exception is if an unexpected event comes up where I wind up eating/drinking more than my calorie allotment.
I just started strength training w/ my hubby this past Sunday.
Going try to get into that to help burn this little bit of flab that I didn't get rid of during my weight loss.0 -

How long have you been in maintenance? With 4 days a week, I'd think it's safe to eat half back if you're using NEAT. I do it like once every 7 weeks so I definitely can't eat that back. Doesn't even cover logging errors ha.
Weight training is awesome. That's pretty much all I did during weight loss!0 -

Thank you. I gave up at 133. I've wanted to get to 128 or even 130 but just can't seem to do it like other girls my height. I might give it another go someday. But yeah, 1800 is doable. You probably do more cardio than me too so it might be more for you.0 -

I might be having the same problem. I don't know if it feels doable (read: not miserable) to keep lowering my deficit until I get to my goal of basically anywhere between 125-130.
I do plenty of cardio, but I've been taking note of the merits of focusing more on lifting, so I plan to make the switch pretty soon.0 -

Oh, by the way...I UPPED my calories through weight loss, is that what you mean? I don't want to derail this thread but I do want to point out that this is a better way to get into maintenance.
And yes, the merits of lifting in a deficit and lifting in general are huge.0 -

I'd maintain on 1800 if I didn't do cardio (37, 5'5", 133 pounds). It's your own decision not to do it... don't complain that you can't eat much then...0 -
Move more so you can eat more...it really is that simple. Plus exercise is soo good for you, you'll have so much more energy, feel fitter, younger....I can't tell you how great I feel since I starting working out 6 days a week a few years back
(ps I'm 5ft 2, 46 yrs, maintaining my goal range 130-134lbs for over a year /average gross cals 2100)
I aim for between 18-21k steps every day just to give you an idea of how active I am.0 -
I think that may be why people who are successful at weight maintenance tend to be those who exercise. Exercise can help bring the desire to eat under control, but it also increases the number of calories a person needs, allowing them to eat more.0

I do exercise but since I don't trust exercise calories, it doesn't really matter when it comes to calorie intake adjustments...
plus since I'm small I really don't burn that many calories anyway.
I guess perhaps, I should start trying to eat back a portion... little by little until I find what works.
In any event... it's okay...I'm sure I'll get used to the situation just like I eventually did when I went into deficit mode after years of not caring what I ate!

OP, if you start to do more exercise, you will be able to eat more than 1370 cals.

I was struggling when i was on 1600 cals!

I was fine on 1200...some days I didn't even eat that much because I simply wasn't hungry... just ate at least the 1,000 required by MFP not to get yelled at.
It's amazing what you get used to (which is why I said I'm sure I'll get used to it)!
I eventually made it up somewhere along the way...
BTW - for my height, age, and weight, many online calorie calculators suggested I eat less than 1200 when I was losing weight...
They even have sites that give you meal plans for 1,000 calorie days.
So it's not unheard of
only MFP said I had to eat at least 1200.
So again it is possible although not ideal...
Besides I I don't even mind not eating that much... Food isn't that important to me.
I just want to go back to way it used to be when I would not be hungry.
And again I DO EXERCISE... what you're not understanding is it doesn't make a difference as far as calorie intake goes because I don't trust exercise calories so I will not eat them back...
Since I'm little I don't burn that many calories when I exercise... so for me... if I exercise and burn let's say 150 calories... cutting that in half I only get 75 calories extra... seriously not that much of a difference.
