    Has any tried the Nuun Electrolyte tablets? I got some for Skip this weekend and I was wondering if anyone else has tried them. You put them in a bottle of water. She's so weight conscience that she doesn't like to drink gatorade or other sport drinks after a race and these are not supposed to have the sugar that most sport drinks have.

    I use a Nuun tablet after every run. Do they make a difference? I can't tell for sure, but they're cheap (If you're a Costco member you can get a box of 63 tablets in three flavors for $21 delivered. They've had them for as little as $17 in the past), I love the taste, they're easy to keep in the car for mixing on the road (Costco Nuun is individually packaged) and as much as I sweat I figure I need the electrolytes. I also don't like Gatorade-type drinks.

    @skippygirlsmom If Skip doesn't want to drink calories perhaps a protein bar? They all include some carbs.

    I regularly have along with my customary apple a protein bar after any longer run/hard workout. 15g (some I buy have 20g) protein plus carbs and fats. The ones I've come to like are only 170 calories, use Whey protein rather than Soy, and taste pretty good (Detour, there are others I'd like to try/buy but we have less selection up here in Canada). The combo right after a hard or long run feels good and keeps me going until I get home. I've learned not to go grocery shopping without that snack in me after a run... I don't want to anyone to experience my rungry inspired shopping cart rage!

    Thanks @7lenny7 and @mwyvr she always has a protein bar about 60 - 90 mins before a run. That is a great price on the Nuun tablets Lenny I just paid $5 for 12 of them. Thanks for the input. I've also been known if she looks bad after a race to give her a juice box. LOL rungry shopping...I love that!

    @skippygirlsmom just to clarify, that Costco price is online. I've never seen Nuun in the stores.

    @skippygirlsmom I carry Picky Bars for post run recovery and they are also great for pre-run fuel. They are 200 calories each and are made with fruit and nuts, (carbs and protien). Sweetened with agave nectar I think.

    I use electrolyte sticks. No sugar, and just dump them in a bottle of water, shake and drink. They are idea for shorter runs that I can't justify 100-200 calories of sugar. I bet the Nuun tabs are similar.

    It's hard being female and balancing the in and out and not shorting yourself. It's too easy to over do it. My best runs, undoubtedly are ones that I've had candy or ice cream before.

    Cake/ice cream fueled runs are the best- I tend to run fasted though- I just really don't like anything in my system.

    Being said- i'm off to google nunn tablets.

    Thanks @skippysmom - I feel significantly better today- I'm quiet positive it was just a lack of real fluids- I had 1 bottle and 2 small glasses of wine during the day (2.5 hrs between wine and run) and I think the lack of water plus the wine really just over all did a number- but I think the carb loading starting wed was a success- I remember distinctly feeling pretty solid around 9 miles- I was slower b/c I couldn't effing see the rocky trail- but I FELT good.

    I honestly didn't feel really ill till well after I got home. So- I think just water.

    I'm good today!!! Trying to hydrate up some... little stiff for sure- but across the board totally good. :D

    Speaking of running fasted, I looked into this and what to do to prevent protein breakdown. What i found is BCAA's help. I drank a BCAA powder mixed in with water before a fasted run. (I am not sure if it helped that much or if it was a placebo- but I may need to go back to it since I noticed soreness that is progressively getting harder to recover from - which I didn't notice when I was taking it). The BCAAs provide enough amino acids to prevent protein breakdown during a fasted run, can actually spurn muscle recovery, and has very little calories. I got 2 tubs from Vitamin World. I went through one tub already. Then stopped. I need to work on that second tub now. Warning: This stuff is not the greatest tasting stuff on the earth.

    The protein powder I take (with milk) after my workouts also have BCAAs in it, but the BCAA mix all by itself is what I would take before a run to remain in the fasted state.

    I guess what I am suggesting is that you could mix it with something that tastes OK after the workout to get some extra amino acid for recovery without the extra calories.

    I have used the Nuun tablets off and on. They have them at our Costco, in the store but not consistently. I do like them post run but I have been having cold pressed Watermelon Juice lately (also from Costco).

    I have to eat as soon as I get up in the morning so I typically have half a protein bar (~100 calories). It is one that I have used for a long while that I know doesn't upset my stomach. Other than that I do not eat before I run, ever. I have learned from trial and error with various foods, that it is not pretty and I end up miserable if I eat first even if it is a couple of hours before my run.

    Another fast run for me today - had to fit it in between meetings or not at all. I made it back 3 minutes late to the meeting :tongue: I am pleased that I am able to get my pace down even though it is still warm and the humidity is high. Made my goal with a couple of days to spare!

    Whew lots of posts to catch up on.
    Skip is fine, thanks for asking. I think she was more scared than hurt she went down hard. She didn't know I was taking that picture which made it even neater. I was snapping and she put her arms out like that. What made the meet more special this weekend was it was at our rival high school so for us to beat them was insane for us.
    @rogue024 @ewrook @7lenny7 and others I know I'm missing GREAT work hitting goal.
    @karllundy it really is great having her to run with, I ran behind her on the trail yesterday and I could just cry at how proud I am of her.
    @shanaber I watch the trail like a hawk I'm so clumsy. I also don't climb out on the rocks too much like her, I don't want my child to see my fall to my death because I tripped LOL
    @5beautifuldays Congrats on a great 10K
    @elise4270 love the picture
    @annekka have a great trip
    @9voice9 glad you found a good group to run with
    @kristinegift thanks for the tip on the capris. I'm taller 5'6" with legs that go all the way from my waist to the ground, but I love a good capri! Super job Hill Killer!!!
    @monkeymintaka is there any other reason to run races but the swag bag LOL. I'm over the moon when they give out women sized shirts and if they are dri fit I'm over the moon.
    @juliet3455 hope you are better - hate that you tripped.
    @jtarmom love new shoes! You are going to be an international half marathoner!
    @kjm3579 you are killing your goal
    @jorocka great run yesterday, I don't know how you fit it in with how busy your day was. How are you feeling today, it does sound like hydration
    @stoshew71 sorry the run was blah today. :disappointed: Love your video LOL
    @jennifer8348683 fantastic HM time!! Congrats

    I've used Nuun tablets and they help but I also used this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Ultima-Replenisher-Raspberry-90-Serving-Canister/dp/B000KK5DWA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1443469165&sr=8-6&keywords=electrolyte
    The Ultima I used in Bikram yoga classes -- 90 minutes of continual workout in 105 F heat at 40% humidity -- it really helped with sore and stiff muscles every day.

    I'm with @Stoshew71 on the bcaa's. I love them. I bought some a while back but didn't notice at the time they had creatine also. I like creatine just fine, but it makes my stomach angry... Monster amino by cytosport is my fav. Taste is eh, not great, not horrible. I really should get more. They really do help with endurance.

    wonderful run today - off cause my dad's visit, so went to run at 8am in the sunshine

    big difference from the same run but at 5am

    felt great, no fatigue, could go for ages, a day like this will fuel me for a few days

    was also fast so in the end I run a Half Marathon with the time I had available

    I do hope to never injure, sometimes it is tough to be committed to run everyday, but the benefits are huge and I feel happy, that it's the most important thing

    plus the physical benefits, now I'm below an average of 130bpm, last year it was around 160bpm

    Immediately went for a run with a friend once I got in from the airport, and definitely am appreciating the cooler weather back up north. Only 6.5 left to hit my target tomorrow, but have some significant mileage to make up on the bike & pool for those challenges. Just need 3 wins over the cardinals the next 3 nights, and I'll be a very happy camper.

    9/3 - 11 miles total (1.5 run + 4 run + 5.5 run)

    9/7 - 5.5 miles
    9/9 - 5 miles
    9/10 - 8 miles
    9/11 - 8 miles
    9/12 - 4 miles (7 x 1/3 mile repeats w. 2 minute recovery jog at 6 min/mile pace)
    9/13 - 12 miles
    9/14 - 8 miles
    9/16 - 9.5 miles
    9/17 - 7 miles

    I've been out of town a week, and tonight was my first run since before leaving. Ugh, it was painful!
    It didn't help that my stomach was not feeling great and I had lower GI distress. More ugh. Good thing the rain
    kept me on the treadmill.
    But I finished up 4 miles and without going back to look, I'm pretty sure that gets me to my total of 40 miles
    for the month. I'm in the bonus for now I guess.
    I have been keeping up for the most part with all of your guys' posts, and they've been keeping me motivated,
    so hopefully that will get me back into the swing of things. Hope everyone has a strong end to the month!

    I've got some great running temps to look forward to this weekend! My youngest son, our dog, and I will be camping on Lake Superior's north shore, at a campsite which overlooks the lake. I just checked the weather forecast. Highs in the mid 50's, lows in the upper 30's. I haven't figured out exactly when or where I'll be running, but I will be running and it looks like I'll need to break out the long sleeve shirts and running pants for the first time.

    @ACSL3 How was the dutch park?

    It was amazing. Think Dutch landscape with tulips and windmills, but in the middle of Japan with kanji written everywhere. The only "ride" per say was the Ferris wheel, but they had different areas with different themes - a shopping area, music area, adventure area with mazes and such, a garden area with the Ferris wheel, a food area, etc. They have a river with a boat you can ride from one end of the park to the other. At night they had fireworks and lots of the buildings were all decorated. If you rode the boat at night there was an area where music played and the lights in the water were timed to look like it was "dancing."

    I'll have to go back again. They have season passes and a discount if you live nearby so it wouldn't be too expensive to have a year-long pass. I hear they do a lot of decorating for holidays so I want to go on Halloween and during the Christmas season.

    I have a fitbit and between the run and the park I got >30,800 steps :blush:
