Unexpected results of weight loss

This is so much motivation0

I laughed when I read your story, because now I realise I am not alone. Along with losing 44kg (97lbs), I have also lost the ability to see my reflection for what it really is. I still shop for my fatter self, and am constantly surprised when people don't recognise me. I have lost my rings because my fingers have shrunk, I have lost the ability to get dressed in five seconds flat, and I have lost the will to eat takeaway or food others have prepared. In the other corner, I have also joined the collarbone camp, the bony shoulder camp, the eternally cold camp and the I can finally shop for what I like camp. No matter the losses or gains, I wouldn't have it any other way. Finally, I am beginning to like me for who I am xx1

Caffeine seems to be affecting me more, lasting longer and weird fluttery belly feeling with less caffeine. (my stomach has never been happy with too much caffeine or before eating in the morning)1

Having lost over 100 pounds (45.8kg), I have had almost all the experiences mentioned in this thread: freakin' cold all the time: no more food dribbling on my chest: I found bones : back, knee and feet pain-gone: off GERD meds, belly does not hit the steering wheel in the car and the seat belt cuts into my shoulder, people do not recognize me, etc. I would add:
-- My husband did the laundry and when he came upstairs he said, "I know you are much smaller , but your clothes are TINY!!!!" Nothing about me has ever been called "tiny."
-- Have your dresser drawers grown???? Mine have gotten HUGE! I used to be able to put my tees in one drawer, summer sweaters in another and my jammies in a third. Now, they all fit on one drawer! :noway: I have a whole drawer for shorts and another one for winter turtle neck shirts!!!! And you know those little drawers on the top - what the heck are they for????? I discovered that my undies are supposed to fit in them and now ... they do!!!!!!!
__ Several people mentioned the growth in airline seats and not having to extend the seat belt to its last possible 1/4 inch. My son lives in Netherlands so I fly fairly often and along with these changes, have you also noticed that suitcases grow as they sit in your closet? I packed all my clothes, makeup and personal care products and my suitcase was only 1/2 full!!!! I have always had to sit on it to get it to close and then repack so it was not over weight. Smaller clothes take up so much less room!
__ Finally, this one is my favorite. We have a neighbor who walks his dog past our house and my husband was away so I was sweeping the grass off the driveway after I got done mowing the lawn. Since I generally do not do the lawn work, I am not outside much and had not seen him in quite a while. As he walked past, he said, "You'd better be sure to sweep that well as your Dad is very fussy about his yard." Apparently, I have gotten MUCH younger looking because the "Dad" was referring to is my husband and we are BOTH in our 60s!!!!
This is my favorite thread of all time as it shows how much more important weight loss is than a number on a scale or tape measure! Those of you still losing-this where you are heading! Enjoy the trip!

I recently noticed that I weigh less than my drivers license says I do!!6
-
Also... I feel taller which is weird.. And I feel like the arch in my feet is bigger which also probably seems weird haha..
It's funny you say that, as I lost weight, I had a lot of people tell me I looked taller. My dad swore I grew. I don't think so at 40, but I guess I did look taller. I got a lot of "I never realized how tall you were"
I'm 5'8 and folks think that I look taller too since losing these 15 pds (15 more to go).. Are you slim in the hips? I look longer because I don't have much hips.. Long legs and a Whole lot in the curves dept just makes me look stretched out. Lol
I'm 5'10 and have hips and thighs. I was just so round before0 -
In my case, that it took 30 lbs for people to START noticing and almost 50 lbs (47 lbs so far) for acquaintances. I am glad I am doing this for my health but it feels pretty good to see the changes.3

When I started, just looking down to the end of the hall seemed overwhelming when I thought about walking to the other end. Now I am consistently walking 2-3 miles at once. No longer have to ask for a table instead of a booth at the restaurant.2

"No longer have to ask for a table instead of a booth at the restaurant."

Me too! I had to use mine as a "picture ID" for something recently and it amazes me how puffy my face looks in that picture.2 -
I kinda get this - I had people I basically quit seeing because they only wanted to do things that I was starting to want to avoid, like partying and drinking.
Now I live in a brand new city and I'm trying to purposefully join social groups that do things I want to be doing, i.e. a running club.teresadutton wrote: »PonyTailedLoser wrote: »Lost friendships

It's called when you were the fat friend, I got all the attention. Now that you've lost weight, I don't get as much attention. I can't handle it.

Unless you count a minor sore throat sometime in August, I haven't been sick all year. And if you do count it, it took from December last year to August this year when last year, prior to weight loss and a healthier me, I was sick a lot. At least once a month.2

Loved reading many of the posts (too many to read them all). After loosing 65 lbs, many things have changed.
1) My wife hates grocery shopping with me, I am always on the lookout for the next heathy food to add to the pantry.
2) She hates clothes shopping too. I like others now enjoy adding new clothes to my wardrobe. Looking good seems to have become a side effect of feeling good.
3) I am no longer afraid to go shirtless at the pool (I have better abs that I did in my 20's)
4) My knees no longer hurt.
5) I hate people telling me I need to gain weight (I am 5' 11', 165 and 19.2% body fat). Would love to say "How about you loose some?"
6) I love it when people ask "How?" and "How can I do it too?"
7) I have an incredible amount of energy
8) I can once again run and am getting better every time I do.
9) I can no longer stomach greasy foods.
I started all of this, because of one simple wake up incident. While shopping Menards, my lovely wife stated that she wanted Red Lobster. Being dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, she felt I was under dressed. A quick stop to Kohls netted me a new button up shirt in my size. We arrived at Red Lobster and I proceeded to put on my new "fitted" shirt. Before this moment I did not realize that "fitted" shirts existed. I could barely button it up and was self conscious the whole dinner.
The next day I started tracking with Microsoft Health and Fitness. And the weight started dropping off. I switched to My Fitness Pal when Microsoft announced they were discontinuing Health and Fitness. Love the way this program integrates with my Fitbit and Runtastic.
I continue to track all my activities and food to stay at my Target weight and am enjoying life to it's fullest!5 -
Great story Lonny!2

It is funny how when shopping I go to the same old size. Somedays I just don't feel like I truly loss but when I look in the mirror (really look) I see the results. This is a mind set to. I am going to loose weight is the attitude to have. I want to get healthy ! Thanks for sharing1

Sometimes, I still see myself as big. I just do.1

I feel taller, I'm still 183cm, I just do !!!0

I fit into the sport seats in my car!1

I am only 40lbs down (still about 125ish to go) but here are some things I have noticed that were unexpected:
-Fat comes off where it will, and it does not always care if you are symmetrical. One side of my rib cage is bigger than the other
-The way people greet you will change. It went from "Hi, how are you?" and "Hey, nice to see you" to "Hey you look nice." or "Hi, that shirt looks great". The other day I had a lady tell me how cute the clothes I am now wearing are... My wardrobe has not changed.
-Maybe it is just me, but people are much more willing to talk about how I look and how my weight is changing. When did it become OK to discuss someone's weight?
-Some people will be happy to compliment you to your face, but then turn around and tell others how you are on the path to failure. This is a flaw in them, not in you. Just ignore it.
-That while some people on MFP may seem mean and unsupportive, they are really just trying to help and often times offer up the best/most useful advise.
I am not far enough along to be experiencing some of the more tangible changes (armpits, bones etc) but I cannot wait to get there. Thanks for this thread, it is fantastic!5 -
Wearing a size 6. I never thought I would.3

I still think I'm big, but after I had to do an 8 hour flight, I realized that I'm smaller, it was the most uncomfortable flight I've ever been on.. All I could feel was my tailbone.....
Oh great, something to look forward to when I fly to my sister's wedding next year...
I have come to realize I needed to change the way I sat, no padding meant I had to try and find a more comfortable position...0 -

I definitely noticed that too! Combined with the heavy lifting strengthening my back, I found that in addition to less padding, my back does not tolerate being rounded for very long. So my only comfortable position for a long time is sitting straight with the weight near the thighs (in front of the bones). Since most chairs, even some office ones, don't have a big enough lumbar curve, I've taken to adding small pillows when I can.
On airplanes I actually use the pillow they offer in my lower-mid back. Helps shift the weight and keep my back from rounding and slipping down the seat.0 -
I think I stopped snoring when sleeping on my back. At least, my husband hasn't woken me up to tell me that I'm snoring, and I haven't snorted myself awake. Ha!5

I'm currently 201 lb (worst 248 lb), I'm running more and participating in my first 5k run in 2 weeks. I'm in a situation where people close to me are saying I shouldn't be losing more weight and I look fine, to me though I still need to lose weight. Not because I think I'm fat or unfit, I feel "heavy" when running and it holds me back from running faster.
I expected nothing but positive feedback from losing weight, if anything I just get negativity.3 -

I read that as armpit bones and my eyebrow raised...Then I saw the coma an instant later and just laughed at the idea. lol

Omg when i read this it sounded just like me op. I cannot tell my size either and the bony knees feels so weird! Guess it takes a bit for our brain to make a new body image map. Congrats on your loss! Another thing i never expected was all the male attention. Now i have to deal with men staring or asking for my number a lot but thats not bad problem to have since im single.0
