It’s the Little Things That Count

Making small changes can add up to big results over time. Since drastic lifestyle changes often don’t work, find one aspect of your diet that you can change fairly easily. For example, instead of ordering large fries at lunch, opt for the medium or small size, Zemel suggests. Find little ways to work extra physical activity into your day, too. Take the stairs instead of the elevator and find the farthest parking spot at the mall or office lot. When talking on the phone, get up and walk around instead of sitting.

When I watch TV, I have started getting up during the ads and walking about. You can get in 20 minutes in a one hour programme doing this.

    Can Salads Make You Fat?

Toss those store-bought sauces and dressings, and top your foods with homemade versions instead. That way, you can control the fat — and perfect the taste.

Flavorful salad dressings and sauces can bring healthy eating to a whole new level — they make vegetables, lean meats, whole grain pastas, and other foods taste even better. And since store-bought products can be loaded with fat, calories, and sodium, learning to make your own sauce and salad dressing recipes is an important part of healthy cooking.

    Hello Everyone
Just checking my calendar and realized that its only 12 weeks to Christmas! Wouldn't it be great to be at goal or at least 20 pounds lighter for all the holiday parties. Well, we can do it. Lets all get excited and start planning to reach our goals and imagine ourselves looking and feeling great.

I myself have personal goal to lose another 15 to 20 pounds by end of November when I have my 6 months follow up. I need to lose between 2 to 2.8 pounds a week. That's is totally do-able. I need to get all my numbers down by then, Cholesterol, sugar, etc.. It would be great to get a really good report from the doctor and really seeing positive results. I am going to take 1 day at a time, small steps and be patient with myself. I will commit to keeping track of my meals, water, exercise and planning a head. I also challenge everyone else to do the same.
Well, I am ready to go at it hard even though I do not have clearance from my doctor to exercise yet. I will do yoga and some light walking. Anything is better than nothing. Good Luck to all and have a great week.

Roadblock: "I can't resist junk food!"

Healthy detours: As you prepare your healthy-eating plan, ask yourself how you can fit the occasional treat into the plan without derailing your overall weight-loss efforts. If you give up all your favorite foods, you'll feel deprived, which decreases your chances of successful weight management. Give yourself permission to eat them on occasion and in moderation. Find a happy medium for high-calorie foods. Could you take the kids out for ice-cream cones once a week or buy a small bag of chips for the Sunday-afternoon football game? That's better than buying a gallon of ice cream for your freezer, where it causes constant temptation.

You can also try healthier versions of your favorite snack foods, such as baked, rather than regular, potato chips. In addition, eat healthy foods before having your treat. It can help you eat less of your favorite treats. MC

Weight loss this week: 0.5lb. Been ill for a lot of last week, and when I was eating, it wasn't the healthiest. I just seemed to crave carbs and sugar when I was up for eating again, so undid all the 'good' that a stomach bug can do for your weight! Oh well, I'm back to the gym starting tonight, so let's see how I do this week.

I'm in. I'm just looking to drop a little - I like to lose slowly. If I could do 5 lbs in the 12 weeks I'd be happy with that (and 5 more later wouldn't be bad either.)
    SW- 146 -October 5.
    GW 140
My biggest problem is not sleeping well, which contributes to overeating. I also have an erratic schedule (shift work) and that doesn't help. I'd like to get my sleep under control, which helps me make healthier food choices.

This is my second challenge with Izzy & Group. The first one I lost 20 lbs in 12 weeks. I'm going to try for 25 pounds this time :) I got a little too confident toward the end of last challenge and didn't weigh/measure food as much, and I had drinks & dessert in a restaurant twice and didn't even care at the time about the calories (GASP!). I'm ready to get down and serious with this challenge again. My goal is to lose another 80 pounds and then get pregnant....carrying a baby on a 200+ body is not much fun (especially toward the end) and I'm determined to have a healthier pregnancy the second time around.

For the first time in months, I have lost no weight this week. But that is OK. We've been doing everything we can here to stay positive. It's hard to be stuck in the house all day for days on end. But at least we're blessed enough to still have a home. So many others are much less fortunate. Please pray for South Carolina! All the best from Columbia!
