Because of my health I am losing my battle. I raised my calorie intake to 1500 a day like everyone wanted. I have put on 37lbs, tomorrow I am going back to hiring it hard and take my chances with my legs. I have been ashamed to write on here or even talk about it, please pray for me.

I'm sorry you're having health problems. Hope you feel better soon and the surgery works out well.

This sounds bad, and I wish you the best, but don't really grasp the context. What's up?

I have a very bad back, Parkinson's Desease, and right now I have venous vein reflux. It mean the little flaps in my veins are not working and it allows backflow of blood in my calls and is painful if I overdo it. Right know I wear compression hoes to help, I think my first surgery is Dec. 17.

My husband suffered with that vein problem, too, but he had surgery for it and the constant pain went away. I do remember the recuperation period was a little longer than we thought at the time, but it was worth it. This was 15 years ago.

Hang in there and be kind to yourself.
I am having the 1st leg fixed Dec.17. They are going to burn the bad ones closed with a laser and he did say there would be a lot of down time

Just to let you know, getting the veins fixed will change your life!

I had really bad veins for a long time. Finally got a specialist appointment and he wouldn't do laser since my veins were too far gone...had to ligate and strip.

On July 30th, I had the right leg done. I weighted my heaviest in years. Decided enough of that sh#t..... The general anesthetic made me not want to eat, so I decided to watch portions and lose this excess. I started walking on the treadmill two days after my first surgery. At first, not a lot at a time, and no incline, but moving as was recommended by my doctor to avoid clots. By the end of 4 weeks, I had lost almost 20 pounds... Two weeks into this, I found and joined MFP and that has made such a difference!

September 17th I had the left leg done, under general anesthetic, and my blood pressure was down considerably and my weight down almost 30 pounds.

We moved to our winter home in Arizona on October 16th. Since then I have been walking an hour a day, going to the gym four days a week for elliptical and circuit training as well as playing pickleball every day.

I have lost 44 pounds to date and gone from a tight size 16 to a loose 10.

I am the lightest I have been since high school, and I will be 60 in the spring.

Good luck with the surgery. I think you will have less down time than you are anticipating, but follow your doctor's instructions!

This is an amazing story! Thanks for sharing. @bigpap97 did you see this? Yes, follow your doctor's instructions, but don't just resign yourself to lots of downtime and inactivity after your surgery. From this story it sounds like quite the opposite works. Just wanted to quote this because I didn't want you to miss it. Thanks again, @Lynzdee18 !

How do I do the weighing and were do I come up with the numbers

What do you mean? Are you asking how do you weigh your food and where do you get the numbers/calories from?
Yes exactly I know nothing about it. This weekend getting a scale should I get some kind of weight watchers book

Glad to see that you're getting a scale, but you don't need to get a Weight Watchers book. WW uses a "point" system; their books will not tell you how many calories are in anything.

All you need is a scale and this site. Click on "Food". Click on "database". Type in the name of the food you're looking for. Steer clear of "generic" and "homemade" entries. It's really not hard.

    Good luck.

The barcode scanner on the mobile app is brilliant for this - no more hunting for the right entry.

I like the barcode scanner too. But you do have to double check and make sure that what comes up actually matches what's on the packages. I've had a few that didn't.

Plus, the scanner can't be used for fruit, veggies, etc.

I am going to be off of here for about a week. I went to buy a scale to weigh my food and Walmart didn't have any decent one and the sales associate told me not to buy any they had so I have to order one online and I also need to familiarize myself with how to do the weighing and how to learn how to get all the numbers I need to have.

practices makes perfect  Most of us started out not knowing what the hell we were doing.
But now, weighing and logging has become second nature for me.

The Walmart stores I checked here each have 4 versions in stock (from $15 - $25) - all would be fine, and every one of them is fancier than the one I use. The scale doesn't have to be fancy to do what you need it to do. Mine is an old spring loaded one one with a removable bucket and a paper guide I rotate to set it back to zero. Its measurements are close enough. Don't don't let getting the best equipment delay getting something functional!

As long as the scale weighs in grams and has a tare function, then you're good to go. Mine cost $10 from my local grocery store..

The sales assistant told you NOT to buy their products? She'll be popular with her bosses

Here's a really good video that demonstrates how to weigh and enter your food into MyFitnessPal.

How on earth do they make it that low calorie? 1 egg is 70 calories a tortilla is like 110, then add bacon and cheese?

It's a small wrap.... reeeeallly small wrap. Fortunately, I'm not incredibly hungry in the morning, so it's just the right size.

You certainly don't need to exercise to lose weight. Exercise is for fitness, not for weight loss.
I also have very bad back problems and can't exercise at all, and I was able to lose weight. I now maintain on 1600 calories. You,as a man, should have no problem at all losing weight at that amount.

Just do what others have said and be very faithful and honest with your logging, and stick to your calorie deficit.

it seems your BIGGEST obstacle that is in your way is you.

You have been told over and over what you need to do to achieve your goals on this post so stop making up excuses like "I didn't buy one cause they were being returned" and go find a scale, buy and start using it.

I think I agree. 90% of purchasers say the scale is great. 5% say its OK. If the scale is defective Amazon will take the scale back with a minimal amount of hassle.

Advice to OP. Buy a scale. Use it. Keep a deficit. You will lose weight.

There has been to much negativaty towards me, my problems and such. I thought this was suppose to be a place for support and I have put you ideas in place and still get negativaty, so I will not be using the community anymore. If you have something helpful or supportive you can message me as I will you. I started using this because I was told how useful it was don't see it have enough trouble with health and weight loss.
