    December 2015 Running Challenge

    Date.…Km’s…..Total
    01/12 – 05.76 – 05.76
    02/12 – 02.34 – 08.01 – run : 8’37 pace
    03/12 – 04.37 – 12.47 – stage 2 melanoma
    04/12 – 03.05 – 15.52
    05/12 – 04.08 – 19.60
    06/12 – 02.07 – 21.67
    07/12 – 02.01 – 23.68
    08/12 – 02.98 – 26.66
    09/12 – 08.96 – 35.62 – ran 6k : 7’26 pace
    10/12 – 02.19 – 37.81
    11/12 – 02.11 – 39.92
    12/12 – 05.13 – 45.05 – first 5k run in 5 weeks

    Goal – 100km

First 5k run since my ankle injury. Felt good. First 2k was a struggle.. Though I stopped to put my phone in the car (was worried the rain would be too much for the rest of the run) and did the last 3km without the phone.. Actually really really enjoyed it! I knew where the 3km was as I was running that 5k route for a while before my injury. The rain was really nice to run in. I went slow and took it easy on slopes and slippery areas where there were a lot of leaves and rocks. Very happy I got out in the rain and did the 5! Ran without the calf sleeves too.. so see if my shins feel tomorrow!

@Elise4270 Honey I'm so sorry about your favorite dog passing away. My heart cries for you. I have a special needs cat that I helped birth, hand fed etc. He's the four legged love of my life. I'm so sorry :'(

Thanks. She'd been ill and it wasn't unexpected.

I ordered new running shoes, which are scheduled to arrive today. Can't wait to try them out, but it'll have to wait until next week. I'm scheduled for an 11 miler this weekend and that might be a little too long for breaking in a new pair. Plus it's supposed to rain Sunday and I don't want to muck up my pretty new shoes.

Here is what I do to my pretty new shoes...

    12/1: 3 miles
    12/2: Rest
12/3: 6 miles with Thursday crew
    12/4: Rest
    12/5: Busy day in NYC
    12/6: Rest from busy day
    12/7: Rest
    12/8: Busy!
12/9: Too sleepy from a late-night Buffy binge on Netflix...
12/10: 6 miles with Thursday crew
    12/11: 4 miles

Ran with a buddy today who didn't make it to the group run last night; both of us needed some other-person motivation to run to avoid the inevitable "I just got home and it's already dark, why bother going out running?" feeling. Legs were a bit tired today so I wore the thigh compression sleeve, and hamstring felt fine. Can't wait until I can stop worrying about it entirely!

PS: 55-60 degree days in December have been a godsend. I'm running Thurs-Sun just to soak in all the warm temps before it cools and gets rainy early next week.

OOOOOH AND: Good luck to everyone racing this weekend! May the force (and the weather) be with you!

Skip stayed home today with strep throat so naturally we went to the marathon expo LOL I hope you can see these shirts. They are reflective lettering and the pictures don't do it justice it was amazing. All I could do not to buy an awesome jacket too. The guy selling is a big trail runner in PA and we must have talked to him for 30 mins. Great guy.

I saw this article this morning and thought of @5BeautifulDays and I think @ceciliaslater? Any one else on a low carb diet.

I know several here regularly run fasted. I run late in the day with my work schedule, 6a-3p. I've always made a point to eat a few hours before I run. Maybe I won't be so strict about it now. Might actually help me lose a bit since I'm stuck.

    http://www.runnersworld.com/diet/can-eating-more-fat-make-you-a-better-runner

Interesting! My diet is not that low-carb. The basic idea is protein first, then vegetables, then starches/sugars if there is room. I don't regulate how much fruit or dairy I eat at all. And even so I'll be the first person to tell you that sticking with it is really, really difficult. I am not eating that way right now at all--I've been enjoying the treats of the season (which so far I've done without weight gain because I run my tushee off every day). But come January, I'll be back on the lower-carb wagon at least until my half is over in February. I really would like to lose the last 20 pounds in the hope that I can get faster. If I can do 5 or so of those pounds between Jan 1 and Feb 22, all the better.

My hips got arthritic on me and gave me too much grief. So I hacked them both out and replaced them. Twice. These new titanium beauties learned not to screw with me.

Your phoenix is making a whole lot of sense to me!

12/1 3.5 @ 11:17 on the treadmill plus strength training
12/2 5.25 @ 11:04 on the treadmill. Oh my heck, please let it be sunny tomorrow. Or at least not so wet.
12/3 4.75 @ 12:03 on the park trail with the doggy. Yay! Sunshine!
    12/4 3.5 @ 11:03 (really 3.25 at 10:48, plus .25 at a walk) on the treadmill, plus strength training
12/5 3 miles hiking with the cub scouts :)

12/6 Woke up feeling sore from Friday's strength training, so took a rest day
12/7 9.25 @ 12:26 on the park trail, nice and easy
    12/8 3.75 @ 10:48 on the treadmill (3.5 at 10:39, .25 walk), plus stretch/yoga
    12/9 5.25 @ 11:32 on the treadmill
12/10 Sort of rest day? Trip to Colonial Williamsburg with my daughter's history class. Lots of walking!
12/11 6.25 @ 11:18 on the treadmill. Irritated because I was supposed to meet my newish trainer. She didn't show up again. So I went to the manager and next week I'll have a different new trainer. Sheesh. And then my friend who wanted me to run the Frosty 5K with her on Sunday called to say she had to drop out because she's still sick with a respiratory bug. I'm disappointed, but at least now I can run Sunday's race for speed rather than moral support.

@stoshew71 - Good luck at the RCM tomorrow! Temperatures look decent (60-65) although the humidity looks a touch icky (85%-90%) so don't forget the body glide. This may not be kosher (especially if you are aiming for a BQ), but I ended up pinning my race number to my shorts for a marathon last year in similar conditions and had a friend meet me with an identical shirt at mile 14 for a very much appreciated swap.

@daverim1978 - Active user of garmin connect (same name), only issue is that the current watch (Forerunner 225) doesn't allow me to differentiate bike rides vs. runs (forcing me to correct after the fact), so if you see a bunch of 20-60 mile runs with a 3 minute/mile pace, I'm not quite that fast.

Great biking weather this week, so I've been spending more time on the saddle (riding 150 miles the past 4 days) exploring some new trails vs. pounding the pavement. Still, got in an intermediate run yesterday, and a short one with the neighbor tonight. Will play the next 2 days by ear before trying a 20 miler Monday night w. my triathlon group speedwork session in the middle.

    12/1 - 4 miles
    12/2 - 4 miles (hill repeats at a 7 pace)
    12/3 - 4 miles
    12/5 - 6 miles
    12/6 - 4 miles (5k in 19:26 - 2nd/85 runners)
    12/7 - 15 miles (w. speedwork session in middle)
    12/8 - 6 miles
12/9 - 7.5 miles (w. group tempo session in middle)
    12/10 - 7 miles
    12/11 - 3 miles

    Total: 60.5 miles
    Goal: 230 miles
    Remaining: 169.5 miles

Aw, I'm so sorry. It's still tough even if it is expected.
I lost one of my 3 in August.
