@Virkati ... I will hold you to it... pound out the miles and hit that goal... then raise it to at least 100 for January

So the HM that I am doing with a friend is now going to be the jetty 2 jetty HM - along the ocean in July

I was looking at doing the bridge 2 bridge HM in Brisbane in August.. Though just had a though... It's a whole month later than the jetty half so maybe I could do both?! Winning!!

29C here today (feels like 31 according to weather app).. I was going to stick to walking until Wednesday to give the shins a rest but I am thinking of going for a quick 5k when hubby gets home from work later this afternoon. As long as the temp drops a bit I should be good to go! Legs are feeling pretty good so far today.

If my math is right, a hm is about 21k, right? With the mileage you are doing and with the right training program, you could easily be doing a 21k run weekly long before July or August 2016... go for both... you can hammer it...

    12/2 4 miles
    12/6 6 miles
    12/10 6 miles
    12/11 3.5 miles
    12/17 5 miles
    12/18 3.5 miles
    12/20 3.5 miles
@Virkati you're not the only one whose lost sight of goals this month. I did as well earlier, but fortunately have done enough to make the goal still doable. I'm trying to get in some shorter runs (well for me there's still a lot of difference between 3.5 miles and 6) so I can run more days in a row and hope that helps me get to my 50.
Today my thighs were feeling a little sore. I think it's from doing some deep, butt to the floor squats yesterday while I was cleaning. Gotta get those floorboards dusted and that tub cleaned you know...

Yeah.. And I figure worse case scenario - If I do need to walk here and there I wouldn't mind anyway .. Just to finish would be awesome! ... But I will be working towards running the full distance  Just slow and steady!

I've just done up a list of the races I want to run for 2016 for motivation.. Bring on the new year!

@CrimsonWhite I hear ya! I'm going to split my miles. A couple in the morning before work on the treadmill and then my regular walk or run at lunch time...provided the weather cooperates. The area I have to walk and run in at lunch doesn't have sidewalks and they don't plow so the roads aren't safe for me. I don't know if I'd be able to make goal this month if I don't split them up. Next month I plan to stay the course so that I'm not scrambling at the end to get the miles in!
@MobyCarp December 22 is the day you're looking for. It's the shortest day of the year and then they start getting longer again. At least until June 20, 2016 and then the days start getting shorter...but that's not as noticeable until much later, thankfully!
@MorningGhost14 The goal of 100 intimidates me. I just started setting mileage goals last month and missed it by almost 8 miles, so I added those miles to this month and rounded up to get an even 85. I am willing to consider it though...I have several races that I'd like to participate in next year and I know I need to get a plan, get with it, and get serious.

I can't listen to anything when I run. I run in the early morning dark on hilly, winding country back-roads, so I have to be on eternal vigilance for coyotes, bears and rednecks in pick-ups who think they are on NASCAR tracks...

@MorningGhost14 &%$#! Bears and coyotes?!!! (Aussie here.)

    You certainly don't need Zombies.

Wow, massive kudos on your bravery and determination.

Had to cut my run short tonight.. Stomach is in knots! I think my body is just adjusting to running again after the break.. hopefully it settles down again soon! Otherwise, the run was quite nice. Shins were tender after the run, though some heat rub and compression sleeves have pretty much fixed them up! Made my 100km goal too!

Opted to just do my 20 miler tonight instead of integrating it with the triathlon team speedwork session tomorrow night. The run actually felt pretty comfortable as I didn't push the pace too much (coming off my 10k race yesterday), and my legs didn't feel nearly as destroyed as usual following those types of workouts. Now that I'm done with my final pre-marathon 20 mile long run, I'm beginning my taper, but plan to maintain the intensity & total mileage this week with just a shorter long run next weekend before scaling back on both speed & distance during the 14 days leading up to Disney.

    12/1 - 4 miles
    12/2 - 4 miles (hill repeats at a 7 pace)
    12/3 - 4 miles
    12/5 - 6 miles
    12/6 - 4 miles (5k in 19:26 - 2nd/85 runners)
    12/7 - 15 miles (w. speedwork session in middle)
    12/8 - 6 miles
12/9 - 7.5 miles (w. group tempo session in middle)
    12/10 - 7 miles
    12/11 - 3 miles
    12/12 - 1 mile (pre lift warmup)
    12/13 - 10 miles
    12/14 - 20 miles (w. speedwork session in middle)
    12/15 - 10 miles
    12/16 - 8.5 miles
    12/17 - 1 mile (pre lift warmup)
    12/18 - 4 miles
    12/19 - 6 miles (10k in 40:13 - 2nd age group)
    12/20 - 20 miles

    Total: 141 miles
    Goal: 230 miles
    Remaining: 89 miles
@Ohhim I seem to remember you telling about the cult run thing last year, or wasn't that you? In any case, 40:13 ist a great time for a 10k, congrats on the 2nd AG place!

Same race (as I guess I've now cycled on this challenge for at least 12 months)... managed to improve by 7.5 minutes over last year as well, but the weather for the race last year was about 25 degrees hotter.

    12/1 - 0 blah day
12/2 - 6.24 (2.66 lunch run + 3.58 dreadmill walk) Felt like an upside down turtle trying to make it thru quicksand. Felt super slow, sluggish, just awful. Later on the t-mill actually felt pretty good.
12/3 - 2.83 Work lunch run...felt good. Not great. Seems like if I take more than 2 days off I lose something, like endurance or lung capacity, something.
12/4 - 2.88 Lunch walk. It was gorgeous outside!
12/5 - 5.25 Walked to neighborhood Walmart for greek yogurt and coffee creamer. Then drove back to get everything I forgot lol
12/6 - Rest day. Letting the knee calm down.
    12/7 - Not feeling it.
    12/8 - Getting lazy.
    12/9 - 3.26 Lunch run. Beautiful day!
    12/10 - 3.29 Lunch run...gorgeous day!
12/11 - 2.92 Fast walk at lunch. I dressed for the weather report. Shoulda known better! It was another drop dead GORGEOUS day. Tomorrow volunteering at Santa Stampede and will try to run the route when it's all over
12/12 - Volunteered at Santa Stampede. Mad respect for the ones running while it snows and accumulates on their lashes and nose hairs! I called it a rest day and stayed inside & cuddled with my cat.
12/13 - 5.48 Day was too beautiful to let it go to waste. I did an exceptionally slow run for a solid 4.5 miles, but it was basically an accident. Was really only heading out for a walk but then I let myself do what my body wanted. The only reason I stopped is because I hadn't brought hydration with me and didn't want to have another bad "after run" experience.
12/14 - 2.87 Treadmill. I didn't get my lunch break so I couldn't go out and love the sunshine and warm temps. We're supposed to get a lot of snow tomorrow. If I can tolerate the cold, I'll be running at lunch!
12/15 - Lost my grip on my goals
    12/16 - Same as above
    12/17 - Same as above
    12/18 - Same as above
12/19 - Started getting my head back on straight.
12/20 - 6.39 Apartment treadmill. I'M BAAAACK!! And it's still possible for me to hit this month's goal which REALLY helped keep me going today
12/21 - 1.38 First day of splitting miles. On the treadmill by 5:30am off by 6.
**Biggest win of the month...I actually got UP, and actually hit the treadmill. Seriously...HUGE win for me!!!**

Hey everyone! Just catching up on the thread after a few days. I haven't run a single step, there is a ton of life stuff going. Anyway you all are doing great.

@ohhim Great time on the 5K and congrats on the AG
@mobycarp you too awesome 5K and the trophy sounds great. You cracked me up on the AG comment, my friend always finishes 2nd in her AG to the same person, she always saying "damn when is she moving out of my AG". Unfortunately they are the same age LOL
    @juliet3455 feel better soon!
@7lenny7 so I'm going to pass the North Pole marathon as awesome as it sounds
    @kimlight2 woohoo 5K PR!
@shanaber the pictures are just beautiful

I think if I listened to the Zombies while running I'd scare myself to death since I run in the dark ha ha

    12/4 - 4 miles on indoor track + weights/abs

    12/7 - unplanned rest day
    12/8 - 4 miles on indoor track + weight/abs
12/9 - 5.25 beautiful miles...40° F at 5:00 a.m. in December! Ran a route that I used a lot last spring/summer, but had been a while. Fun, relaxing, almost perfect!

    12/12 - 6 chilly miles

    12/14 - life day
    12/15 - 4 miles on indoor track + weights
    12/16 - 5 wind-blown miles. Can't complain about 42° F at 5 a.m. on December 16 though!
12/17 - 5.05 miles on treadmill (Trek class)
    12/18 - 4.1 miles on indoor track + weights/abs
    12/19 - rest day
    12/20 - 4.75 miles around my 'hood

@patrikc333, @7lenny7, @ddmom0811 - So true! I was obese pretty much from age 5 until four years ago at age 38. The only people who seemed concerned were my doctor, my grandma and my mother. Now, though still technically ~8 lbs. overweight, people say I worry to much about my weight, exercise too much and should eat more. Society is crazy!
    @runner_girl83 - Both! Definitely both!

I believe that puts me at 61 of 96 miles completed. Will have to check that count tomorrow!

Make that 64/96. I can't math in my head, obviously.

I'm having a lot of shin pain since starting to run again, it's been going on for a few months now. I went to my local running store and got fitted for shoes but it seems that my shins just can't recover... Any tips or tricks? I stretch really good after a run and ice them. In addition I've been doing strength training on the side to aid my running (work my legs about 2x/week). Today it hurts just to walk. I know there's an adjustment period when starting a new exercise, but this seems to be lasting a while and I've never experienced this before. Part of the reason my runs are scarce is because I'm trying to get my shins to feel better. I feel it every time my foot hits the ground when running.

I use calf sleeves when running. Sometimes I wear them for up to a few hrs after too, if I'm staying at home. I can't tell you how good they are to run in. They keep everything surrounding your calves and shins nice and tight so its not painful and they also aid blood flow in the legs. I don't wear them for walking though.. I find I'm usually a bit better as walking is lighter effort onmy legs.

If they are really painful to walk on right now.. I would have a week off running (walking is oOK if its not too painful) no jumping, hopping or skipping.

Go for shorter runs for a few weeks.. Add 1km more each fortnight on 1 of your runs (I need to use this advice myself .. Again! )

Keep icing and elevating and do lots of calf raises and calf massage.

    Hope this helps

Thanks so much for this advice!! I will definitely take it into account. I had a pretty easy workout week last week so I'm hoping my shins are on the way to recovery now. There is still some pain in them when walking so I will probably hold off on running for the next few days.

I will look into compression sleeves too, I've heard good things about them so I just need to suck it up and buy a pair. :)

Thanks again! I really appreciate the help.
