No. I've taken a few different kinds a few years back, they don't work. The best thing to do is to plug your information (weight, age, height, activity level) into MFP and eat the amount of calories it gives you per day.0

no. they are all marketing gimicks to get your money. they dont work. what works is learning to eat the right amount of the right foods.1

What kind of weight loss supps are you asking about? Pre-workout? Protein? Shakes? Vitamins? Thermogenics? Or specifically "fat burners"?0

Yes use Legion Phoenix daily and Legion Forge and BCAA if I'm exercising in a fasted state. What I will tell you is these are not magic and really only add a little to a good diet where you are in a calorie deficit and already losing. You might see some slight increase in losses.0

Not currently taking anything but I see a lot of testimonies to itWorks so kinda of leaning towards that just not 100% sold0

If the weight loss supplements do work, what do you think will happen when you stop taking them? You'll gain everything back. It's better to learn how to eat with MFP.
Also, a distributor for 'it works' contacted me a couple months ago to ask if she could use my before and after weight loss pictures and say it was her products that did it so don't believe all the 'it work's' testimonials.2 -
anything you are considering taking you need to look up at http://examine.com - you will see nothing really works beyond caffeine. There are no fat burning pills. There are no fat blocking pills. Everything sold by the diet industry in terms of this is a scam or at best unproven.0

Save your money and dont fall into that trap. For the most part some sups are just marketing gimmicks and only benefiting the person selling them :-) You can do this just by counting calories and watching what you eat. What I do recommend is getting a good vitamin source so that your body has backup resources for what you are losing until you get your diet balanced. :-)1

Except for Alli and/or Belviq, which are both prescription meds, everything over the counter is just made to assist in an already healthy exercise and nutrition plan. Same with exercise equipment. Ever see that commercial for the new Bowflex machine? Says you can burn a few hundred calories in like 12 minutes? LOL! Maybe you can but have you ever purchased a Bowflex system? It comes with a book that highly recommends a specific diet plan to follow while you're using the Bowflex.0

As people have said, if there were a fat loss pill that actually worked *everyone* would know about it and you wouldn't need to be searching around internet forums to hear about them. They are all placebo, as they all suggest that you use them in conjunction with an exercise and diet program, which are the things that *actually* lead to weight loss, without the pills.
Be careful of people trying to sell Multilevel Marketing products.0 -

^All you need to know about weight loss supplements. The positive reviews you see for fat burners will be biased and/or placebo effect.* They do nothing.

The two that drive me absolutely crazy are Juice Plus and Shakeology. Both of those companies care way more about you selling their business and their bottom line than they do their actual customers!1

I just bought mine. No, because my metabolism is already messed up due to an underactive thyroid, so why mess with it more? More importantly, I lost a family member to complications resulting from taking diet pills. The damage they did to her lungs required a double transplant, and she did not survive the procedure. That happened back in the 1990s, & while I realize that particular drug has since been banned, it was a lesson learned the very hard way to leave all of those things alone - just do the work.1

EC stack is the best. Buy a box of Bronkaid from the pharmacy and a bottle of stay awake pills which are 200mg caffeine. Take 1 each 2-3 times a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caffeine is probably the best and the only one proven to do much of anything. If there's something your curious about go to Google Scholar and try to find a peer-reviewed article on it. You'll find that most of them (e.g. CLA, Chromium, L-Carnitine, etc) have no human (emphasis on "human") studies to support the claims that the products effectively support weight loss or fat cell reduction. Most of the claims for products like I mentioned, are based on observations in mice and rat studies and therefore are out of context when discussing humans. Some might be made by studies performed by the company selling the product, which of course the results don't even need to be discussed because it's biased.0

I asked my husband for the "Burn" and "Tone" supplement duo from Complete Nutrition for Christmas. I noticed zero difference whatsoever. I was disappointed. However, some supplements with caffeine may help simply because they give you more energy to get out and be active.0

I recently started taking Cellucor HD, which is technically a fat burner, but I take it as a pre-workout because of the caffeine and thermogenic effect. Fat burner my *kitten*. I also take amino acids, fish oil, and a multivitamin, which are all supplements but they're not for weight loss.
For weight loss, I like to use a little thing called a caloric deficit. Works like a charm.0 -

Exactly. The application of supplements in all facets of nutrition and fitness are way way overstated. It really boils down to the supplement industry is huge and they're trying to make money on the perception that their product will help you look like the fitness models on TV or the athletes representing them.
Very few actually do what they claimed, a few more "might" actually work as advertised, but most are marginal in their impact to absolutely nothing.0 -
This is a pretty good article that will tell you what can help and what can't. There are very few that do anything and you can't take a pill in place of a calorie deficit and exercise. You don't need supplements to get fit or lose weight.

True he does sell them, however I think a few key differences.. One he says you don't need them to get fit. Two he puts in them exactly what he says, there are no proprietary blends. But yes I agree he's making money off those, including me that buy in.0 -

That's not a bad post. The information on "Carnitine" is confusing, not sure why he included it. There might be research that supports it working, I have not seen it, but there is definitely research saying it does nothing substantial. Even his own statements within that bullet point don't support it as working.
Another really important thing anybody reading that article needs pay attention to, is the dosing level of each supplement. For instance, look at the Citruline dosing at 6gms to 8gms / day. Most supplements off the shelf do not include that large of a dose in a single serving. You would have to take multiple servings to get that dose and if it includes caffeine in one serving it wouldn't be safe to take multiple doses so you're really wasting your money. I know some people that actually have taken information like what's presented above and made their own PWO drinks and recovery drinks because they can control the dosing so it's actually meaningful.0
