Why are so many excluding milk from their diet?

Foods with probiotics (like yogurt, sauer kraut, kimchi) are literally full of bacteria. Have you read about how many bacteria and parasites are living all over us and inside of us??? The whole slew of theories about gut health centers around what type of bacteria we have in our digestive system and if we are feeding them properly. There are viruses floating in the air and sitting on just about every surface you touch. There are dust mites in your bed, eating your dead skin cells.
Life is dirty. And if you think about it too much, it will give you the permanent willies.
That's why I drink alcohol too. It helps me think less about that sort of thing, and hopefully kills some of the little buggers on the way down.
Thanks for the natural history lesson. You're right, life is dirty. Maybe thinking about it too much would give you 'the permanent willies' (surely there's a medical antidote to that, some sort of 'reverse viagra'?) but I'm made of sterner stuff. Bacteria doesn't bother me. Some of the inhumane practices involved in meat/egg/dairy production do bother me, though. Enough to do something about it, e.g. not supporting it financially by consuming those products.
And yeah, I drink alcohol too, the sort which hasn't had egg, milk, gelatine or isinglass (dried fish swimbladders) used in it as finings. Alcohol helps me think less about things like the ignorance of people who try to justify animal cruelty by whatever means they think suits their particular purpose (e.g. taste, monetary profit).
Because as far as I'm concerned nothing justifies any kind of cruelty, whether inflicted on man or beast.
Cheers!
Well you are definitely a better person than me. And I'm pretty sure you are saying that you are hardier and smarter than me as well, but that's okay. I respect what you believe, and I don't necessarily disagree with your moral issues with how animals in industrial food production are handled. I do have issues with the superior attitude, blatantly untrue fear-mongering about things like pus, and inability to see any other side of the argument that always seems to accompany the "clean-eating" side of these arguments. It doesn't have to be that way. Have a great weekend
Oh, I'm just an ordinary person, no better than anyone else and clearly not as good as some at putting words into other people's mouths. Thanks for allowing me my moral stance re animals and sorry if what you read in my post made you feel inferior in any way, definitely not my intention. Personally I don't do 'fear-mongering', just occasionally mention a few facts that many have big problems with, once they realise those facts are facts and not the fiction they'd like to believe, e.g. 'all farm animals live at Rainbow Farm and live long happy lives till they fall asleep and go to Sparkle-Dream Heaven' or something.
Of course, we all know the reality is very different but ... it doesn't have to be that way.
Actually I enjoy these 'debates' (rather than arguments) where we all put our different points of view out here and I really appreciate that because at least it means some people have actually bothered to have an opinion on something most couldn't care less about. Again, please don't feel inferior because something I wrote made you feel uncomfortable.
You have a great weekend too, !

I have found that it seems to make me hungrier, one string cheese leads to four more and the yogurt and the baked potato with sour cream . . . and it just keeps going. The almond milk in the smoothies doesn't seem to cause the same issue but even milk in my cereal seems to just make me want more, no idea why but it is consistent.0

I don't like milk, but I do like ice cream, cheese, and yogurt.
That said, I try to limit dairy in my diet to only one serving a day. I have endometriosis and a hepactic adenoma. Both conditions are aggravated by the hormones found in dairy products. The less of them I eat, the better off I am.0 -
Many of us are not able to digest cow milk protein (cow milk protein intolerance)....can be quite nasty. In my son, as an infant, it caused blistering all around the *kitten*. We only identified it when we actually tried soy cheese...which surprising to us contained casein. For my father, an endoscopy improved ridiculously when he cut out dairy...again CMPI.
What you're describing sound more like CMPA - an actual allergy - with IgE mediated reactions. It is rarer than CMPI which is the intolerance part and doesn't result in these allergic responses. Often they are lumped together.0 -
I would never exclude it from my diet unless there was a medical reason for doing so.0

Propaganda - for what cause? What do we get from actively excluding most commonly available foods from our diet? How does that personally benefit us? We only do it because morally and ethically, we can't ignore what is going on. Its not about us - its the animals and the planet.
The feeling of superiority.
That's what is in it for you because the anti-milk crowd certainly aren't in it for the logic.
Well there is quite a lot of logic actually. We are not babies, and we are not cows, hence we do not need baby cow milk. Plus it hurts animals, we don't need to eat it, we don't want to hurt animals, logical decision is not to consume it.
I don't feel superior. I just don't feel guilty.

So much contradiction, especially the final bit.0 -

There is no real reason that we have to consume the lactation fluids of another species. However, it is readily available and contains quite a few nutrients for few calories, as long as you leave off the fat and added sugars. Some folks don't digest it well, and the dairy industry is mostly factory farming nowadays. I have gotten used to my fat free plain greek yogurt from grass fed cows. One could have worse addictions, I suppose.0

Merkavar, you can get great calcium from green leafy vegetables and canned salmon. Eat the little soft bones.0

The sugar thing perplexes me no end. It has never crossed my mind to think about the sugar content of plain old milk.
Me neither..
Nor have I.
Nor have I. Milk sugar (lactose) IS an issue for those who are lactose intolerant. Also, some claim that casein from milk (a protein) increases cancer risk -- that's the Forks over Knives thing.
The idea that milk is bad because sugar is idiotic.
(I still think milk is bad for me because it's not worth the calories, but I am not fool enough to generalize about that.)0 -

I don't like the taste unless I have time to let it sit for 10-15min and get to room temp. Usually I don't have the time.0

Their meat wasn't made for eating but tell that any carnivore.
Nuts aren't made for eating, they're for growing more trees, yet you eat them.
The only things that are actually "designed" around the idea of being eaten are fruits, and we still don't do it "correctly" because we're not swallowing the seeds and pooping them out 100 miles away from the plant the fruit came from so they can grow in their own little pile of fertilizer.0 -

I find milk disgusting, but I love yogurt and cheese. However, I'm lactose intolerant, so I limit those.0

I do paleo. No dairy. Here is the lowdown. Dairy actually causes alot of allergies you might not be aware of, it is a big trigger for alot of allergies due to the hormones and the way they process milk these days. It is not always about the lactose tolerance. I have found as well as many others that getting rid of dairy has cleared up some adult acne ive had, clearer skin and i think clearer, and memory is better. I drink coconut milk in my shakes or cereals now.0

Oh I love milk, I'd easily drink a pint a day of semi skimmed (never skimmed and full fat is too creamy) but I can't have too much dairy as it gives me bad skin. So I have coconut or almond milk on my porridge now. Still cows milk in my tea though, as no other type of milk tastes right in tea! And I still occasionally treat myself to a nice cold glass of yumminess!0

Milk causes allergies? And eliminating it improves memory?
Please to post links to studies. Really looking forward to reading these.0 -

Anything to back that up?0
