After today seemed torturous, I think I'm going to try running on Wed, a short run, 2 miles, sandwiched in between my T and Th 4 mile runs. It adds 2 miles to my week, which, in theory, will allow me to bump my long run to 7, and keep it under 35% of my weekly total, but I'm going to keep the long run at 6, so I'll be at 70% shorter runs and the long run will be 30%. If all goes well, I'll try bumping my wednesday run by a mile next week and then a week after that, bump up my Long run to 7.

04/24/16 OKC Memorial Half WHOO! Finally heard back from DH's employer. We got 2 entries to the marathon. I'm hoping it's the half, and it's just a non-runner mistake that all races are marathons. I'm fairly certain there is no way I can do a surprise full. Free race!

4/1 - 5 miles on the bike around town, 3 mile walk, 45 min strength training (This is what I do when I can't run.)
4/2 - 4.5 mile RUN! (no pain!), 3 mile walk because I love spring weather
4/3 - rest day
4/4 - 3 mile run, 23 min strength training
4/5 - 4.25 mile run
4/6 - rest day (should've gotten up earlier and done strength training)
4/7 - 20 min light walk after an hour in the car, so I don't have to call this another rest day!
4/8 - 3.1 run (testing out my sore knee so no Friday long run), 1.5 mile walk trip to grocery store, no strength because I have a pinched nerve causing my whole arm to burn
4/9 - 5 mile run followed by 25 min stretching and foam rolling followed by 35 min strength training (finally!)
4/10 - 1 hour indoor low impact cardio
4/11 - 1 hour strength training/pilates/stretching/foam rolling
19.85 of 60 miles April running goal
So in an effort to strengthen my outer hips and get more "balanced", I followed my usual strength training with a pilates routine. Yeah, my hips were burning doing side leg raises and stuff so I think this could be a problem and even leading to the knee pain. Also went through my old stretch routine for sciatica. I do tons of weighed squats and lunges but have neglected the sides of my hips/thighs. So I'll see if a few more rest days clears up the minor pain issues I'm currently having and continue to work on hip strength.

Daily double! 6.4mi easy in the mtns. Conditions were unreal for Vegas. 50f and thick low clouds. Ahhh. I didn't want to leave! Took like 80 pics. Which dramatically slowed me down. Worth it. So 15.4mi for today. Solid. And I still feel great. Good sign for my upcoming ultras!
4/1 - Easy 10.1mi @ 8:25/mi
4/2 - rest.
4/3 - 1mi fun hike for views of SLC. 400ft vertical.
4/4 - Snowboard 41.8mi 30,000ft, descent (not counted on April total), 55.8mph top speed.
4/5 - 7.3mi mountain (steep) run. About 2,000ft vertical, 14:31/avg. Medium effort.
4/6 - Rest
4/7 - 4.5mi easy w speed bursts 8:50 - 5:40/mi
4/8 - rest
4/9 - Beginners Luck 25k trail race (2:53)
4/10 - 7.1mi on Black Mtn, 2,234ft vertical gain, 14:11/mi (PR)
4/11 - AM 9mi easy (8:41/mi) ---- PM 6.4mi trail (1,207ft vertical) -15.4mi total
April total - 61.6/153mi

@EvgeniZyntx and Marissaxzxzxz Yes, the few of us on this continent are a bit scattered across Europe, aren't we? Probably no chance for a MFP running challenge meetup on our side of the big lake...
I live in France - but less than 2km away from Switzerland. I moved here last November; before I was living in Germany. And I once spent two semesters in Ireland (Dublin) and travelled around the country quite a bit while I was there - so beautiful, I really should plan another vacation there in the next couple of years!

I know what you mean!
I scrape by by running harder / a bit further each week on my 4 running days.
My schedule recently:
Sat: parkrun 5k
Sun: long run (10-15 km)
Tues & Thurs: Easy 7-8km runs.
But a friend who runs marathons has recommended I do an interval session Tues or Thurs. Might try that on Thursday.
2 April – 5 km parkrun
3 April – 10 km PB 1:02:23
5 April – 8.2 km
7 April – 7.1 km
9 April – 5 km parkrun PB 29:12 Sub-30 goal achieved!
10 April – 15 km
12 April – 8.4 km
Total: 58.7 km
Goal: 100 km

@WhatMeRunning.... Everything is fine as of now. Need to heel that muscle and avoid further damage.
@_nikkiwolf_, .... thanks. yeah taking some days rest for the injury to heal. doesnt't look any major, but Physio said it might get into one if I don't rest. So April challenge gone for a toss.

4:30am run and winter tried to linger here once more with temps hovering right around the freezing mark. So just to spite old man winter I ran in shorts and a short sleeve shirt in the dark with my running cap and some gloves. Sure showed him! The long range forecast is looking rather warm. These upcoming spring races might feel more like summer!

How exciting! I'll be watching on TV in Florida. Never got into watching it at all until I started cycling myself.
@whatmerunning - I noticed on Strava you left at 4:36 and I left at 4:38 for our morning runs! That was late for me - had trouble waking up. Alarms are 4:07 and 4:17 and just couldn't get up.

@ddmom0811 - Hey running twin! You sure get ready and out the door quickly! My alarm is set for 4:00. I had a little trouble getting out of bed this morning, getting downstairs around 4:08. It always takes me about 20-30 minutes to get ready and out the door. Wish I could do that faster because on tomorrow's 8 miler I will have to get up at 3:15!!0

@WhatMeRunning I'm normally up and out the door in 10-15 minutes. When my runs get out to 5 miles I may gave to start getting up before 0500, especially if I stick with my plan to slowly turn the Wednesday Run I'm adding into a id week long run.

It doesn't matter if you are talking about 5:00 am or 3:15 am - you guys are insane!
I'm not a morning runner at all - it takes me at least 30 minutes from stumbling out of bed to being able to run. And I don't like the knowledge that I have to be back at a certain time - no freedom to slow down or add a loop without worrying about being late for work.
Pretty much all my weekday runs are between 8pm and midnight. I'm already dreading summer, when it might still be too hot to run in the evening!0 -
4/1 - 3.5 miles on indoor track + weights/abs
4/2 - Life day
4/3 - 10 miles. Very windy.
4/4 - Rest day.
4/5 - 4 miles on the treadmill, then weights/abs.
4/6 - 4.3 miles. Cool, damp and breezy.
4/7 - 4.5 miles on treadmill (Trek class)
4/8 - Rest day...lots of housework/painting/yardwork
4/9 - 4.05 mile trail race...super fun with local microbrews at the end! Had way more fun than I expected!
4/10 - Skipped my long run due to back pain / spasms. Not sure if they were from the trail race or from moving my son's room. Had to skip my planned 10+ mile long run. Hope it gets better fast!
4/11 - Woke up with continued back pain. Getting cranky.

That's how I feel, exactly. Two years ago I couldn't run 30 sec without my heart jumping to 190. Yesterday finished my first 10K. I walked a part of it, ran most of it and finished happy knowing that at 46 I healthier than I was 2 years ago. . So that's my motto "beat yourself, run more"

I can't keep up with you people....and I'm not even talking about running. XD I've never seen such a lively thread before!
Running is becoming easier for me, though my knees still act up sometimes. I'll try doing more hip exercises since I'm sure I lack core/hip strength. Still, today's kilometre ( ) was fun - great weather and no scary geese.0 -

@whatmerunning - you need to do like Skip, she wears her running clothes to bed the night before a race so she doesn't have to waste time getting dressed. I can get up and out in 10 minutes in the summer, not so much when it's cold then it's more like 20.

I may have to start doing that too, when I up my morning mileage. Good plan giving the knee a rest. I always start back too soon.0 -
Still going low impact today. Maybe I'll get out on the bike after work. Feeling pretty confident that I'm going to strengthen my hips and solve all my problems
I am slooooooow to wake up in the morning. I'm up by 6 but I hit snooze a lot and wander around the house like a zombie. So on work days, I run after work. On non-work days, I still don't run until like 9am usually. I can't imagine running 15 mins after I woke up!

@pthyay Good job and I'm glad you're enjoying running. As for the activity on this thread, if there's one thing runners like to talk about, it's running!
