How on earth is a dill pickle going to solve a craving for something chocolate or sweet? I mean, I'm all about dill pickles, but not when I want a brownie or slice of cheesecake.
I like the chocolate redi-whip idea!0 -
Have you tried stevia? It works for me. I don't like to eat sugar because it fires up my appetite something fierce. It's a personal preference. Just like choosing to eat sugar for some is. People on here get super nasty about whether or not someone eats sugar I have noticed. I wish they would keep hateful sugar defending comments on the debate board. I can't eat a lot of calories so sugary foods easily destroy my deficit.1

I have a sweet tooth and peanut butter chocolate quest bars are my savior! Or a sugar free popsicle.0

I make "banana Ice cream" I have a Yonanas machine and it takes frozen bananas and makes it into a frozen ice cream like desert.0

Activa yogurt with some cut up strawberries tossed in. Kills my sweet tooth. And there is no guilt for having 2.0

Go Paleo and stick to fruit, and an occasional SERVING of raw honey or pure maple syrup. Stay away from agave, molasses, etc. and artificials. Just my humble opinion.0

My sweet tooth has been my downfall ! Since i was a child after my main meal my parents would give me a dessert so i think my body expects it, over the past few weeks ive tried waiting 30 minutes after my meal to go in search for a sugary snack and more often than not my sweet tooth disapears .
But im not going to cut sugar out i just dont think its realistic but since having sweet things less when i do give in it tastes so much better0 -
I finally kicked the my ice cream habit by replacing it with 2 - 3 oz sliced strawberries topped with .5 cup of non-fat Greek yogurt and 1 TB of brown sugar.0

FYI folks, some of us can't have sugar (almost all of the ose's)... Such as myself who is insulin resistant. I produce huge amounts of insulin even when eating a tiny amount of sugar. I avoid fructose, sucrose and glucose and limit my lactose (surprisingly I've found low fat dairy has higher lactose than full fat). Even if the OP isn't insulin resistant or diabetic, wanting to cut sugar down or defeat a sugar addiction is an awesome thing to do. Myself, I dream about peanut m&m's... Tasty lil morsels. But even a small serve screws with my insulin.
Honey IS sugar. It will not help. It has both fructose and glucose molecules plus some goodies but essentially has the same major chemical composition as sucrose. I work on bee research & tend to hives - it is the biggest tease to harvest raw, unfiltered rainforest honey that you can't eat. I prefer honey to cane sugar (I live in cane growing country too, ugh). https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/ramseycountyextension/news/extended-to-you/2012-extended-to-you/honey-or-sugar
Don't fear artificial sweeteners! The study that vilified aspartame was dodgy... I got used to the taste but I don't have it every day. I find the more I eat sweets, artificial or natural, the more I crave. Sugar free hard lollies are good and you typically can't have too many as some non-sugars like maltitol are like laxatives in large quantities hahaha a GREAT deterrent.

Eat non refined sugar.
My husband is indian and hindus are health nuts.
We use jaggery. Its sugar in its purest form...cane juice dried into powder.
If you dont have an indian market you can buy it on amazon im sure.
Your body is able to process it.0 -

Hi EVCbeth1978,
As several people have said, it's a very personal thing, but I also cut out refined sugar when I have a pound or two to lose. I describe myself as having a sweet tooth, and for the first 5-7 days I find it a struggle, but after that it gets better and I find other things taste really sweet. For example, if I put dried apricots in a curry, or if I eat a fruit like an orange, they seem to taste much sweeter.
You don't say (unless I missed it, sorry) how long you've been going without refined sugar for, but have you noticed this sort of change?
I actually don't miss it much after a while (couple of weeks) but if I have a small amount - one biscuit or square of chocolate - then I really really want more, so for me the best strategy is to cut it out altogether. I really admire people who can eat just one of anything sweet, but it's not something that works for me, once the packet is open I cannot stop myself until they are all gone. (Biscuits, sweeties, chocolate..... Perhaps it's purely psychological but anything with refined sugar and fat in combination is a bit of a problem for me.)
I understand there is more sugar in dried fruit, so if fresh isn't doing it for you then you could try raisins or apricots, or you can buy dried mango and coconut which has a different texture?
When I am craving something sweet, I think it's often habitual - after dinner is peak craving time for me, or when I've had a bad day and feel I need a treat - rather than physical, and distraction is often quite effective. If I can find something interesting and absorbing to do I often forget about it altogether (exercise works well), if I feel I can't fight it then I try to eat or drink but something with no sugar. Hot water works for me sometimes, though if you like them I think fruit or herbal teas are better for a lot of people. Failing that, a handful of nuts or a savory oat biscuit make me feel as if I've had something to eat and fill me up without giving in to that sugar craving, which for me would inevitably mean the whole packet. (And I can just eat 1 oat biscuit, odd when you come to think about it)
Good luck!1 -
I have the same problem too. My father was a baker and every morning I'd be eating sweets. Now that I'm trying to cut back on my sugar intake, I'm drinking water and apple cider vinegar, lemon water, or spice teas (Celestial Bengal for example) to curb my cravings. Best of luck!0

Get key lime chobani 100 and put 1/4 of a cup of Kind granola in it. It tastes like key lime pie and it's very high in protein. Or I use Elli Quark yogurt instead of chobani . Yogurt always satisfies my sweet tooth and with the granola it keeps me full for hours.0
