so I guess it's time for me to jump back in.... :) I stopped running and started doing a boot camp 4-5 days a week. Going to mix 3 days of running back in. Two short days and a long day.

I'll be joining the May challenge...

    Yea! Welcome back!

FYI, long distance is anything over 5 km, according to wikipedia
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-distance_running
Yeah, I know that. I just always have thought that it seemed short to be actual long distance.

@MobyCarp It's been awesome reading your updates on training for Boston, and your very honest assessments of how you feel you did at the race and recovering. It's funny to say, but your running Boston and all you wrote about it, are why I moved up my plan to run my first HM by 2 months. Not in your league, but taking my first steps into LD racing.

Made my day. Well, I also ate a bag of marshmallows, soo :relieved: it might be the sugar.

I'm easing in, so I got a Forerunner 220. The GPS on my phone isn't working correctly and the Apple Store couldn't figure out what's wrong. I didn't want to buy a whole new phone or drop $299 for a replacement, so I opted for a watch instead....

Haha! I have a half Sunday, maybe it counts as carb loading.

Congratulations on setting your goals for a half. They are fun, and still plenty challenging.

So sorry to hear about the pains @ceciliaslater and @greenolivetree. I hope you can both get back to full health quickly.

Welcome back @gabbo34! I recently got a Garmin FR watch and it is incredible. Enjoy!

    Overview:
Bad idea: eating 9 fried potstickers at your favorite professor's retirement party. Worse idea: attempting to run directly after eating said potstickers...
This was supposed to be a 5 mile run but it was all I could do to hold down those potstickers for 4 super lazy miles. Not sure why, but I’ve just been feeling off all week with running- having a hard time getting out the door on my morning runs, feeling extra sore, and little aches and pains all over. I’m thinking it might be time for a cut back week soon!

@kristinegift Glad to hear that you have such a great feel and comfort with varied paces and changing gears.
Only a runner can get a cramp getting out of bed. My last HM for my Taper I had to drop two Swim Lessons and three Runs so I understand the taper crazies and how it sneaks up on you.

@5BeautifulDays I understand your Love - Hate Relationship with Gym gear, Dreadmill's and Helliptical's. Congrats on the new Kicks and the comfort-confidence they have given you.

@instantmartian I don't understand how you can run six-plus miles on a treadmill, but good on you for getting it in.

@WhatMeRunning Recovering from an injury is where ellipticals or Stationery Bikes really stand out. With you it was foot pain after a HM. For me it was a Meniscus tear a little over 2 years ago. No Impact but still cycle the legs and get the HR up.

@Ohhim That's probably the easiest costume decision anyone has ever had to make - Pittsburgh marathon and discovered you were assigned bib #666.

@MobyCarp Glad to see that on second reflection you are a lot happier with your results.

    A mildly crappy day:
    • Had to take the long commute, because Google told me there was a bad accident on the interstate
    • I'm a programmer, but I've been "loaned out" to a different group because of their bad planning (IMHO), so I had a program that HAD to be coded & tested TODAY
    • Coding was simple (and, in fact, I coded all 4 of the programs I was assigned), but the testing is a BEAR, and this particular bear put me in a situation of sitting on my *kitten* for 6 straight hours (no bio-break, no H20 break) doing a cut-and-paste from one screen to another 533 times. Read that last 2 words again, please.
    • BTW as I neared the end of those 533 cut-and-pastes, the lead developer sent out an email saying that the DB2 engineers had decided they didn't like the way the template was designed, so we ALL had to change that part of the code. And recompile. And restart testing. Remember, I'm supposed to turn over one of these programs TODAY.
Needless to say, I was grumpy when, at 3:00, I decided, "Screw it, I'm going for my lunch run and they'll have to suffer with not getting the stupid program today (since they moved the goal posts mid-game anyway)." No, I hadn't eaten since 8:30, and had not much hydration. I knew I'd take it slow and easy, but didn't necessarily plan on a 11:41/mile/mostly-walking run.

You know those times when you run to get out of your head and just get away from the lousy day you're having? Today should've been one of those, but it just wasn't.

Fortunately, choir practice with my Chancel Choir made up for it. I love those folks!

8.5 km Recovery Run with my friends who ran the Jasper HM with me.
They are already talking about what we should do next.
I tend to have a dislike of the Long Distance ( 10k+) Summer events as they tend to be too hot and I am a Human Furnace with 2 settings Hot and Hotter. So I understand those people in the Southern States who get up at 4-5 am to get a run in.

    04/01 – 0.0 Km – 0.0 - 140 km
    04/02 – 10. Km – 10 km- 130 km
    04/03 – 8.0 Km – 18 km- 122 km
    04/04 – 12 km – 30 km – 110 km
    04/06 – 6.0 km – 36 km – 104 km
    04/08 – 5.0 km – 41 km – 99 km
    04/09 –16.0 km – 57 km – 83 km
    04/11 –6.5 km – 63.5 km –76.5 km
    04/16 – 21km – 84.5 km – 55.5 km
    04/21 –8.5km – 93.0 km – 47.0 km – YTD 483.8 km

Got a pleasant surprise when checking out my race number for the Pittsburgh marathon and discovered I was assigned bib #666. I think the costume pretty much takes care of itself, as I ordered my usual race shoe model in bright red in my size, along with some red dri fit shorts, a red dri fit shirt, some flashing LED devil horn ears, and a tail I can attach to my fuel belt. Not sure I'll be able to grow a goatee in time, but I'll see what can do on that front.

@Ohhim That gets the official truckload of likes from me.

    Hi,

I am taking part in a few other challenges and had a bad (busy work) week last week and as such I forgot to post on this one!
I only managed 5km last week
This week I have done 2 runs, Tuesday 8km, Friday 7km very pleased with this as after last week!!
Thanks I know I am not doing as much running as some, however, I am doing it for me! The challenge is getting me out there and getting me fitter!!! So a big thanks for doing this thread!

At least I have configured Mr Ticker correctly Lol

Notes on Today's run: First day of training for my July 4 HM. Training plan schedule starts next week, but I decided to follow week 1 for this week's runs. Today's assignment was 45m-1h at E. My average pace ended up being just a little faster than E, because I decided to do a fast finish and ran the last 1.2 Miles at what will hopefully be my HM pace. Foot felt good. Here's the funny thing. Foot feels fine running, but "odd" when I'm not. Tomorrow is a rest day and I've finally convinced myself they are not lazy days, they serve the purpose of letting me heal so I can run healthy.
