I'm not feelin' the podiatrist I saw. I don't feel he listened to my concerns. I left a message today regarding the boot- it's been hard to wear. I did not receive a call back.
So I asked my husband's opinion. He said I probably just have tendonitis and it'll heal in time. Maybe so, but I have serious pain pressing on the navicular n spot and on top. It's been 17 days. I'm still limping. But a little less. My husband said no way it's a stress fracture, or anything that warrants a doc visit. Just wait it out. Admittedly I sometimes run to the doc too quickly.
How long do you wait? Maybe I let Google get to me. Anyone have a stress fracture/tendonitis experience they can share?0 -
@elise4270 - I think 17 days is a long time to be limping. I haven't had a stress fracture but my kids had them and it seems like they usually had to wait 4 weeks. You are almost there at this point. But, it seems like if you are worried about it (which I would be too), you should get a second opinion. I just hate that you are limping that long because you know how when you limp you are possibly hurting another part.

Just a mid-paced 3 miler at noon today with my tri team following a long hard bike ride. I haven't been doing enough of those "brick" workouts, and I definitely could feel it in my legs on the run, and with the mid-day sun/exposed asphalt path, my body wasn't liking me too much.
5/1 - 26.2 miles (Pittsburgh Marathon - 3:08:25, ran as bib #666 in full devil costume, got a BQ)
5/5 - 6 miles
5/9 - 15 miles
5/10 - 6 miles
5/11 - 3 miles
Total: 56 miles

@whatmerunning and @ddmom0811 - I've been subtly swapping out my avatars based on geographies for a while (as I alternate between Florida/Pittsburgh), but figured racing a BQ this month warranted its own special avatar. Luckily the south park character generator I use for it had built in options for devil horns, red sunglasses, red shorts, red shirt, and a goatee. The tail & bib were easy to add over in MS paint.

@ddmom0811 Thanks. My gait is off even more so. But after I have hip surgery I'll go through PT and gait training. I appreciate your feedback. You're always super helpful.
Edit- maybe the podiatrist has me waiting 2 weeks to hit that 4 week mark. Maybe he know what he's doing.0 -

Went for another easy 5k today. Or so I thought until I met a group of girls that were running on those weird spring boots, kangoo jumps I think they are called, see picture
I was running at my slow pace and they were just ahead of me with almost the same pace and I thought too myself: "preposterous, I can't let my ego be stuck behind this uncanny display of fitness"...and that was the end of my easy run, as I accelerated to my..well..sprint pace? for a km, trying to show my best form while I passed them. I like to think they thought "damn, that guy must be a pro or something".
Anyway knee is almost fully healed, still nagging a bit but no pain after a run and keeping in mind that I couldn't run 5k without pain flaring up I'll say I'm good.

Too many posts to catch up on or comment. Some killer race's and great runs. Sounds like the Injured are coming off the Bleachers and getting some slow gentle walk - run combo's to ease into the routine. I really think I am going to have to plan a Running Addict - European vacation next year - Iceland, Greenland, Scotland, Ireland and ?
A nice run doing what some might consider a Hill - we just call it Pats Creek since it is one of the Easiest Hills out of our River valley. Ran with one of the Ladies I respect and who I consider to be very Modest about her abilities - ever HM race we have been to she gets to the finish line 10-20 minutes before me.
So I think she was sandbagging me just to be kind.
5.5 km's in 34 minutes uphill with no walk breaks and then flying down the hill in 29 minutes.
Net 11 km in 63 mins. 5:45/km.

Nah, I'm impressed by YOU! I don't do an actual bodyweight "workout" every day. Just some exercises.
Some days some lever machine chest press & pullup lifting, and I've been doing planking every night.
I did the 30 day plank challenge in April
and in May I've been doing a 5 minute plank (alternating between hands and elbows during the 5 minutes) every night.5 -

@Elise4270 - I'm thinking there isn't much point of getting a second doctors opinion this many days into resting/healing. If it's a stress fracture then you just need more time and you have already banked 2-1/2 weeks. Tendonitis would be the same, more time. Might just be a nasty case of tendonitis. Just my unprofessional opinion.1

I think if I was out running and saw people with these contraptions strapped to their feet my reaction would be to stop and stare and probably give them a dumbfounded look. I have never seen or have heard of such things, before! I feel like I would inevitably end up flat on my face with a few broken teeth if I ever attempted to run/walk/stand in those things.1 -

OMG - I nearly spewed my tea onto my laptop when I saw that picture. A friend of mine has those ridiculous things. She doesn't run outside in them, she uses them in a class in a local gym. I saw them at her front door once and they are HUGE. She says she loves them and they feel great. They were really expensive - like $300. I mean, come on, we could get 3 pairs of running shoes for that. Or maybe 4-5 with coupons!
I guarantee no one who owns those has abs like that.
@orphia - awesome on plank challenge! I did that a couple years ago and sort of got out of it. But my trainer one day said let's see how long you can plank - and I could still do 2 minutes.

I can agree with that. I'm happier now that I have the boot figured out. I've been in it 40 minutes and it's not given me a fit yet. I feel better now that I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. And the more I wear it, the better it seems to do. Now just waiting for my coworkers to start dishing it out. I'm sure I'll have to offer to stick it in their *kitten*.
If I got a second opinion, I'm sure they stick me in a boot. How dumb would that look? " Uh, doc. I have a boot from another podiatrist that I didn't listen too because I'm so smart and they are all dummies". Like you said- not productive at this point.

Just realized I haven't taken a rest day since last month. Oops. But it hasn't been all running so I think it's okay.
Nothing exciting to report on my morning run. No bunnies, armadillos, cats or kangaroo shoes. I got out a little early and didn't see the same cars I usually see. I know what time everyone leaves along my route. I wish I wasn't afraid to leave my neighborhood but it's just too scary at that time to leave it.

Decided not to run yesterday because I just didn't feel like it. Also didn't feel like it this morning, but managed to convince myself it would be good to get out the door and run a few miles. Looking forward to my group run tonight. I've been a hermit the past few days getting work done in my apartment, so it will be good to see real people.

Notes on today's run: Assignment for today was to run a 50m-1h Progression run. The assignment called for just doing an easy run, then running the last 15 minutes at HM pace or faster. Here's how my run actually looked:
Mile 1: 10:55- Middle of E range
mile 2: 10:32- Bottom end of E range
Mile 3: 10:31- Bottom end of E range
Mile 4: 10:27- Just below the bottom of E range
Mile 5: 9:19- Near the bottom of TI range
Mile 5.5- 9:19-Near the bottom of TI range
I wanted something more of a "real" progression run than the fast finish the plan called for. My splits reflect that fairly well. I took the first mile pretty easy, then kicked up the pace for miles 2-4, and really hammered it for mile 5-5.5. So, I ended up not running the last 15 at faster pace, it was mire like 14 minutes, but I'm not to concerned about that. I COULD have gone another minute, but I liked my distance/time/pace, and felt OK stopping when I did.
The run felt REALLY good. Despite getting my HR into max range over the last mile and a half. I don't have a real goal HM pace figured out yet, so my paces are based on the McMillan Pace Calculator, using my Current PR 10k time for reference. Using the knee support has really helped, so I think I'm going to keep wearing it on my runs.1 -

I'm a bit late to the game but:
...if your husband gets stuck on the roof of the house for an hour because the ladder fell over while he was cleaning gutters and you hadn't quite made it to the turnaround point on your long run when he called you for help.
Yep, that actually happened. Gary called me and asked how much farther I had to go. I told him I could cut it short and turn back (save a few miles, get home 20-30 minutes sooner), but he insisted that i finish my run (probably because he knew it would nag me all day if I didn't get in all the miles I set out to do).4 -

5/3 - 3.1 miles. Quick 5k while my daughter had soccer practice.
5/4 - 4.53 miles. Cool, pleasant morning run. Mostly base pace, but last mile tempo.
5/5 - 4.95 miles on treadmill (Trek class).
5/6 - 4.47 miles. Base pace.
