Supposed to do week 8 day 1 today, but meh... my energy levels have been kind of zapped the last few days. What do you guys do to get your energy up before a run? Caffeine?
A run may help, it can be surprising how little I want to run some days but if I get out there I fell great by the end. If a run does not help considering you have felt zapped for a few days then consider a little break and rest. You can repeat portions of C25K, it is not "one size fits all".

Did another trail run today. It was not as bad as the first I still feel like a confused baby deer though.
@Zom_bunny As @PoppetsMaster said and " We will assimilate you - resistance is futile " once you get into the rhythm of trails and the occasional agility test that gets thrown your way you will be Hooked. The treadmill and paved/concrete will be boring and drive you back into the trees.

Back from the soccer tournament. I was able to keep up with the posts between matches but replying via cell phone is a PIA.

@_nikkiwolf_ thanks for the two race reports. Sounds like you had a great time and setting a new PR is fantastic!
@AdrianChr92 thanks for posting the photos. Fascinating stuff!

So @PoppetsMaster & I were talking and he convinced me to buy a couple of books on ultras, "Relentless Forward Progress" by Bryon Powell and "The Cool Impossible" by Eric Orton. Or ordered the first on Kindle and a hard copy of the second. Between games this past weekend I started reading Relentless Forward Progress and have gotten nearly half way through it (skipping the specific training plans...I'll go back to those later). Just reading the Forward was enough to get me jazzed up about running my first ultra. That could be as soon as this fall or as late as next spring.

I only managed one run in over the weekend. I had planned on 6 miles but another soccer dad, whom I had gotten into trail running (he hated running, but now loves it, now that he's running trails) wanted to go with me. I welcomed the company because he and I get a long great and I needed someone to keep me on a slower pace. The only true trails I could find, of sufficient distance, were farther than I wanted to go so we ran on an asphalt trail along the Fox River in Appleton, MN.

I don't recall our pace, but it was very comfortable for me. Him...we stopped and walked a few times for him. I also cut the run short because I didn't want him to not run with me again. Back at my truck we realized that we had parked next to a brewpub. As luck would have it, neither of us had brought our wallet.

Now the frustrating thing about this run is that a couple hours afterwards I noticed my Achilles was swollen. No real pain to speak of, though I could feel *something*, but it was as swollen as I've ever seen it. That made me decide to take a break until Wednesday when I have a 10K trail race, which I plan on taking easy. Perhaps I should have taken more time off from running after my marathon.

It kills me to skip my trail run tonight because we're supposed to get a heavy thunderstorm and I'd LOVE to run in that. Good chance for storms Wednesday so hopefully they won't call off the race because of it.

When I run the GEICO 5K Saturday, it will mark the 8-year anniversary of my FIRST 5K (also the GEICO 5K for Georgia Special Olympics). That one was 41:30. My 5K last Saturday was 32:35. Since it's the course I run 4-5 days/week, I'd like to think I can push it a little harder (it's basically this: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1175096676). Either way, it marks some kind of milestone. I guess.

Since I'm 0.49 miles from goaling for the month, yes, I'll prob head back out for a little bit after supper (if I can) and wrap it up. Just because.

    Upcoming Races:
    28-May: GEICO/Special Olympics 5K
    30-May: Cordele Kiwanis 8K (?)
    03-Jun: Daylily Dash 5K, Gray (7 PM)
04-Jul: Peachtree Road Race 10K, Atlanta, GA
05-Sep: Labor Day Road Race 10K
    17-Sep: Joshua's Wish 5K
    24-Sep: Georgia Golden Olympics 5K

    5/9 - 15 miles
    5/10 - 6 miles
    5/11 - 3 miles
    5/12 - 2 miles
    5/13 - 4.5 miles
    5/14 - 6 miles
    5/15 - 3 miles
    5/17 - 11 miles
    5/18 - 10 miles
    5/19 - 11 miles
    5/20 - 2.5 miles
    5/21 - 7 miles
    5/22 - 11.5 miles
    5/23 - 8 miles

OK, so like @greenolivetree and @MNLittleFinn said, all I had to do was just start running. The first mile was like, "UGH, this sucks," but after that it was like, "Hey, this is great! Let's keep going!" I wound up running 2.6 miles, which is the farthest I've even run non-stop. So close to 3 miles!

@respectthekitty that's fantastic! Even at the mileage I run that first mile or so usually sucks. Once you get warmed up and you body accepts that fact that this is what we're doing now, it nearly almost goes better after that.

Fantastic! That's how it works. Eventually, your brain gets conditioned to know that running always makes you feel better and you begin to view running as a kind of drug. It's how the addiction starts!! Usually, the worse I feel at the start of a run, the better it ends up being.

5/1 25 min spinning, no run
    5/2 3.9 miles
    5/3 4.2 miles
    5/5 4.5 miles
    5/6 2.8 miles
    5/9 4.56 miles
    5/19 4.34 miles
    5/21 1.5 miles
    5/23 5.2 miles

It is HARRRRRRRD to run slow! I'm by no means fast at all, but I began faster than my usual treadmill training pace and got worn off in a few minutes. So today's run incorporated lots of walking.

@RespectTheKitty Well done! I honestly would never run if I based it off how I feel when I leave work. Sitting in this chair makes me tired :-D But I never regret getting out there and giving it my best.

@CChen8520 Running anything slower than YOUR normal pace seems to be challenging. I think we all have a pace we naturally gravitate to, especially early on in our running.

I just realized that I've run more miles this month than I did in all of March and more than 3x the miles I ran in February. I'll pass last month's total tomorrow...hopefully.

    That's great :)

I ran about 42 in Jan, 48 in Feb, 72 in March - then got sidelined and dropped to 35 for April. Looks like I'll hit 50 for May after cautiously easing back in. I'm already starting to wonder about June. Not sure where to set my goal. I think I should stick conservative and hope to enter the cooler fall weather in good shape and be ready to rack up some miles then. The higher temps this week may test me and further convince to keep mileage low for June.

You're coming back well! I'm looking at June also. With a 10k race on the 11th, then a quick taper at the end for my July 4 HM means that I shouldn't be running the same miles as I will this month. Keeping a low goal is not a bad thing. It feels great to meet/exceed any goal, so a lower goal that is attainable is a great idea.

The first mile is always a liar.

I didn't have time to run yesterday, a family dinner ran on much later than I thought so I was still feeling stuffed full of food when I got home late. I'll tack a few extra miles onto my run-commute tomorrow to get back on track for my milage goal this month.
