Time to get on board with us. No excuses. Come and join us for a full month of running. You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to keep you accountable and enjoy a virtual coffee with your fellow runners after you run. Make new friends and learn a few things.
Hi everyone. This is a continuation from the May 2016 Running Challenge which can be found at:
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10381153/may-2016-running-challenge/
Anyone can join in. New & Old. And if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members that are total beginners all the way to marathon maniacs and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch.
Here the details from last month that applies here again.
Anybody want to join me for a running challenge? Set a goal here and mark it every day here. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (If creating ones seems difficult, then don't let that stop you. Just type in your daily miles here.)
You can run, walk, or do treadmill. Just be consistent. I am setting a goal for 250 miles. Don't let my high (or low) goal intimidate you. Some can do 25, 50; whatever you like. We can help motivate each other. What do you say? If you are new to running, set a low goal. (You can also log your miles in km's if you choose.)
You can set your goal now but wait until Wednesday June 1 to log your runs.
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/21182-monthly-running-challange
There you will find lots of good info, and it's a place where everyone can talk to each other for further motivation. It's also a place to find help when there is a problem with this thread.
After you run, come in this thread and post what you did. (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread) Keep a running tally of what you did this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chat it up even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things to include running. Very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time). Talk about a recent race or one coming up. Ask questions, provide answers, or just learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs, follow what many other people are doing. Even look at last month's thread that I posted above.
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker.
Then you need to update it after you do a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your pin in that you set when you created your ticker account.
Then where it says "Your current cumlative value, there is an add button. Just add what you just did and the cumlative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
Now after you added your new miles (or km's) to your ticker you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting on how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the img tags around that link. So it will look, (removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets. ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker.
1: Use the link that ends in .png
2. Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
3. remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
4. YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
Good luck! And happy running (or walking or treadmilling, ect). If you have any trouble or have questions, please feel free to PM me.

Going to go for 100 again. Passed it this month, but I'll be tapering for my HM near the end of the month, so we'll see.10
-
I will do 757

I completely fell off the wagon in May. I got lazy at the beginning of the month, and then I was super sick with a sinus infection and a fever I couldn't shake for a week towards the end, so my goal went right out the window. I have a lot of life happening in June, so I'm going to set my goal at a super conservative 30 miles. I will begin training for my next half at the end of the month.5
-
Eh 80- 100 miles. Good luck everyone!
Thanks again Stan!5 -
I am a beginner. I'm going to set my goal for 25 miles this month.15
-
I kind of overdid it in May, so I'll stick with a target of 80, and see what the month brings.

still working on 506

Hoping I can survive 225!6

With surgery in 6 days, I'm out on running for the month. But, to say I participated:
Goal: 0 miles running
Other Goals: Heal well; Lose the crutches; Lose the stitches and boot; Work on ROM (PT exercises daily, when approved).
Fighting the urge to get in one last short run before surgery... I've been off running for over a month now and the thought of two more months is making me a bit batty.10 -

Awesome!2 -

I hit my modest goal of 30 miles last month and I have a 5k this month so I am going to target 40 injury free miles. I am hoping to be better adjusted to the heat soon to make this a little easier.7
-
I'm going to do something different this month. Instead of counting running and walking, I'm going to count just running miles. I'm going to go for 30 total miles running for the month. I'm hoping as I get better and start adding more distance, that this will be achievable.12
-
Goal for this month is 150 km (93.2 miles). But I still got a run today5
-
@RespectTheKitty That's a great goal, I think you'll meet it and exceed it!4
-
@ceciliaslater -Good luck with the surgery. Hope it all goes well and you will be back at it in no time!
I finished May just over 100 miles, which was fine because, as I said before, it's always sort of my anything goes month. But I will get back at serious training for a fall half this month, so I am going to set my goal for 130 miles.4 -
Didn't make last month's goal. Lets try again. My goal is 25 miles7
-
Ill jump in on this. Looks pretty fun. I'll set my goal at 150.5

My main goal for June is to get back into a regular running routine and to maintain HM level fitness, recover from a couple of minor (I hope) niggles, and be injury free.
Translated to a number, I'm going to say 100 miles, though that may change as I eventually plan out the month. For now I like having the freedom of no plan.4 -
My highest month so far was 72 miles in March and I just made it back to 57 in May after a setback. I think I'm going to stick with 50 for June due to concerns of how I'm going to handle the heat. If I do more, great. And honestly, if I didn't hit 50 but ran consistently with less miles, I'd be okay with that too. I'll be pushing harder once the cooler fall weather gets here.3
-
I will try for 30 miles.3

I'm going for 70 this month. Parents are visiting for the first week so that might throw me off a bit...but I bet I can catch up!7
