At work last night and I grab my usually Diet Pepsi (although this time caffeine free). After a few sips, I had such a nasty aftertaste in my mouth. At first I thought it might just be me and new adversion to foods (pregnant). My partner noticed I wasn't drinking it and asked why, so I mentioned the weird, sickly sweet after taste. He goes, same here, ever since they switched from aspartame to sucralose. Blaugh!!! I hate sucralose, always have. Guess I need to find a new diet soda. Any suggestions?

Coke zero, Pepsi max, diet dr pepper diet mountain dew4

Diet Dr. Pepper is good. The coke products still use aspartame as far as i know. I hate splenda.
Unsweet iced green tea is also good, try that.4 -
I like Dr Pepper 100
-
Do they have caffeine free diet Dr Pepper?1

Why not give up soda entirely? once you get used to water you'll wonder how you ever found soda's tasty - I can't hack any soda's at all now, far too sweet imo. I prefer to eat my calories rather than drink them (never did the zero/low calorie sodas as they tasted horrible).
Congrats on your pregnancy36 -
I can't add to the suggestions but congratulations on the baby!!2

Cherry Diet Dr Pepper and Regular Diet Pepper here. I hate Pepsi products except Diet Mt Dew. I despise anything with splenda in it and also Coke Zero it tastes flat just like the Diet Pepsi regular Pepsi does.
Everyone is different, pick your poison!3 -
I don't like the taste of sucralose either - took some searching to find a protein shake without it.
Coke Life perhaps? (Green topped bottle.)
Sweetened with stevia.0 -
Can't stand either of them! So gross! I either take the calorie hit or go for water. Congrats on the baby!2

Diet dr pepper for the win. Yes, they do make a caffeine free version.3
-
I love Diet Pepsi - sucralose has been in Diet Pepsi for months, so you must not drink much of it anyway. I did not notice a taste difference when they made the switch, but there is definitely a taste difference between caffeinated and caffeine free. You might have been noticing that rather than the change in sweeteners.5

When I was pregnant one of the few things my doctor told me to stay away from was Aspartame...14

I actually hate stevia even more haha.midwesterner85 wrote: »I love Diet Pepsi - sucralose has been in Diet Pepsi for months, so you must not drink much of it anyway. It's the sweetner. I had been drinking diet iced tea for the past few months and literally bought Diet Pepsi again last night. I used to drink it all the time though.shinycrazy wrote: »Diet dr pepper for the win. Yes, they do make a caffeine free version.
Good! Will look for it.tracymayo1 wrote: »When I was pregnant one of the few things my doctor told me to stay away from was Aspartame...tracymayo1 wrote: »When I was pregnant one of the few things my doctor told me to stay away from was Aspartame...
My doctor has not and told me there is nothing wrong with it, just reduce caffeine intake. I did not ask for advice about whether or not I should consume it. You do you, I will do me.22 -
My husband used to live on Dr Pepper and the only diet pop he's found so far that he enjoys is Coke Zero.0
-
Pepsi Max Cherry.

You said you drank your "usually" (sic) Diet Pepsi, but now your story changes to say you haven't drank it for a few months. At work last night and I grab my usually Diet Pepsi
Diet Pepsi was sweetened with sucralose 3 months ago, and even twice that time (6 months ago). Tea would not taste like Diet Pepsi.
Here is the actual difference, though, compared to what you normally drink:(although this time caffeine free)
So even though you are adamant that it is the sucralose you are tasting, you have admitted that the only difference compared to what you last consumed is that this time, it was caffeine free. Do what you will with that revelation- I don't own stock in PepsiCo, so it makes no difference to me. At least now you have an opportunity to understand what you are tasting differently.12 -
Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Coke, and Coke Zero are the bomb-diggity.3
-
I also stopped drinking Diet Pepsi a few months ago when they switched to sucralose. It made me sad, I loved drinking them!
I've switched back to Diet Coke, even though I don't like it as much. Or Diet Dr. Pepper. I believe they make both of those in caffeine free versions.0 -
I'm not too surprised that a mixture of unidentifiable artificial flavors and artificial sweeteners would taste bad. I tried Diet Coke recently just for kicks (I am not a pop drinker) and I was like, "What the hell is this?"12

I don't drink soda anymore because I lost the taste for it, but when I did I loved Zevia. It is sweetened with the stevia.
ETA, just saw where you say you don't like stevia.
I also liked diet 7 up and Diet Root Beer. Don't know if the sweetener has been changed on those.1 -
I have a suggestion - drink water instead. Soda of any sort is terrible for you.15

I used to drink Zevia but it got expensive after while. Then I turned to Coke Zero. It taste the best to me without the calories. Now, I hardly drink any kind of soda anymore.1 -

I believe diet mug rootbeer is the same but not 100% sure. Will look later.Torontonius wrote: »I have a suggestion - drink water instead. Soda of any sort is terrible for you.
Once again I didn't ask if I should drink soda or not. Not sure why anti soda people always seem to need to post things like this. I'll do me, you do you.15 -
Can you get diet from an international shop? I know here in Australia, I can shop around and get diet soda from different countries, and they have different ingredients. But Australia tends to import a lot more than the US.
Congrats on the baby!0 -

Ty! I've never looked into that option. When I have a chance later, I'll see if that is a possibility.
On phone and forum seems to be glitching/or my service sucks (hence the quote mishaps).0 -
Coke Zero and Cherry Coke Zero. The best. Now that I drink those, Diet Coke tastes gross to me.3
-
I drink diet A&W root beer (has aspartame) and diet Mt. Dew (has aspartame and sucralose).0
-
I got off soda completely, (seriously, none of it is good for us) by drinking seltzer water, (has to be seltzer) and then adding a couple drops of stevia and a couple tablespoons of my favorite juice, like Ruby Red Grapefruit juice. It was like drinking a Squirt. Whenever I crave soda, that's my go to.5
