Becca - I couldn't tell from your post if your birthday is today, just past, or coming up soon, but this is for you whatever...

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Ladies,
Barbie, we will be with you both as you get through Jake’s surgery. The thing that helped me the absolute most after my spinal fusion was that we got a hospital bed for me. I wouldn’t have thought of it but DH did and the doctor said, oh yes your insurance will cover it and he had them order it for me before I left the hospital. Without it I don’t think I’d have been able to get in and out of the bed without a lot of help from DH. Like I said, I’m sure Jake is in much better shape and weight than I was when I had my surgery so his recuperation should be much easier.
Martha, welcome. It sounds like you know how this works so come here often and join right in.
CarolNC, it’s good to see you. I miss you when you aren’t here! I understand about being afraid to go the self-employed route. I’d need a little (or a LOT) more security than that. I do with you could find something other than that one church.
Becca, so sorry for all the problems for your DH. Praying the doctors can take care of it soon.
Jchappe, welcome. This is a great place for support and information. Please sign each post with the name you want to be called and a location, general or specific. Come often and join in.
MicheleNC, with the new TV provider we can set it to record in the LR or on phone or computer. Then can watch it from LR or Bed room. Cute balloons.
Joyce, trust me, if I didn’t keep a word document open and take notes I’d never answer the right person about anything. My brain is right there with yours. I hope Charlie is doing well? I think of the two of you so often. Guess you are getting more quickies than you want lately.
Beth, “Ditto” on knowing all of you.
Janetr, I know how you feel. I gained a few pounds over the holidays and my cruise and haven’t lost any of it until yesterday. I finally got the scale to move 1 ½ pounds. Woo hoo. Hang in there, my friend. You know it will happen.
Carey, a huge on being smoke free. Doesn’t it feel great. I guess I’ve only been off the e-cig for about a year and a half and I’ll admit I’m proud.
Dawn, then next time you are in No Myrtle Beach, we’ll have to meet up! I love that picture of your grandbaby!!!!! Great picture of the kids and you and DH also. Thanks for sharing.
Izabel, welcome. And listen, lady….You just forgive yourself and take one step at a time. You know better now about how to do this so forget the past and move forward. We are with you.
Kay, that is a great amount of money your DH has saved up from not smoking. Wish I had done that.
to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
Some of you will remember that my dear friend from Milwaukee has a rare cancer of the blood and has been on chemo every three weeks for a few years. This is after a bone marrow transplant and radiation. At any rate, they just found out that she has a growth on her lower spine that is the same type of cancer cell. She sounds in good spirits but I am so concerned. I ask that any of you prayers please add her to your prayer list. It’s pouring down rain right now for the 2nd time today. The first one didn’t last more than about 15 minutes so we will see what this one does. I’m sending kudos for your victories and hugs and prayers where needed. I hope you all have a Happy and Healthy Day!
Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.
I Love you,
DJ

I enjoy reading all the posts. I find encouragement here daily. I have more energy since making protein about half my calories. Thanks to whoever gave me the suggestion. I have lost 17 lbs since April. Just need to do more walking.
Debbie in TX3 -
Carey -- Congratulations on your 2 year anniversary. Quitting is so difficult, I quit 18 years ago June 3rd and I give myself a pat on the back every year.
Becca -- Happy Birthday.
Today is a quiet day, but I did get a little cleaning done. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Tommorrow is not a given, Today is a gift -- Thank you for sharing it with me4 -
Debbie in TX. I do a lot of walking....some things that helped me were getting a pedometer so I can see how many steps I'd walk and try to increase the numbers and to examine my life to find ways to fit in walking at different times.
DJ, thanks for idea about the hospital bed--we'll see what the doctor says.
Today we had the farewell lunch for my former line dance teacher who's moving to Arizona...a great time was had by all...Jake came to lunch to say good by....he was the only man there but it was important to him to give her a hug before she left.

Becca happy birthday. Hope you enjoy your day and take care of yourself.

Hi I'm 50 years old, married mother of 2 grandma to 3. I love I'm Toledo, Ohio. I am currently in HMR Decision Free MEDICALLY managed weight loss. I have lost 34 lbs and 22 inches overall since 3/22/16. When I started I was on insulin twice a day with an A1C of 10.10, also I couldn't walk around the block. I'm happy to say I'm off ALL diabetic medications, my A1C is now 5.1, I work out 5-6 days a week ( in the pool because of bad knees) for 1.5 hours per day burning approx 900 cals on avg. and i can walk that block now lol. I just recently restarted my use of MFP! My goals for the rest of the month and July is to maintain the avg weight loss a week of 3lbs, continue the pool calisthenics, and if my knees will allow it is my eventual goal to walk a 5K (3.1miles) on my feet, all at once. I'm looking forward to connecting with people of like minds!6

DJ-we will definitely pray for your close friend. I'm so sorry to hear of her new development. (((Hugs)))
Mary from Minnesota1 -
Hello ladies: Got DH to his follow-up appointment today for his second cataract surgery. I am slowly learning my way around Everett and feeling a little more comfortable driving there. He does not have to go back now until July. Made it to water exercise on Monday but not today. I have PT tomorrow and Friday. I am with someone else on here who said food was easier in the summer. Maybe it is just that there are more fresh options available that I like.
Becca - Happy birthday!!!
Carey - Congratulations, that is an accomplishment.
Welcome to all the new ladies, keep coming back.
Barbie - Good luck on that drive, we have confidence in you.
Joyce in SD - Glad you finally got your picture up. We moved to WA from Sioux Falls last June after I retired from McKennan.
Everyone take care, Sue2 -
Becca Happy Birthday :flowerforyou:2

DJ, so sorry about your friend.
Barbie, Becca, Joyce and possibly others I have forgotten, hugs and prayers for the health of your husbands.
Theresa, welcome! That's an impressive weight loss.1 -
Ooops that's not Michelle's cold that arrived here it's Miriam's - my brain is very foggy right now.
Linda I too got tears in my eyes at the end of your post. What a wonderful way to leave this earth listening to beautiful music. I am going to add that to my instructions to my daughters. Music would have made a huge difference to all of my family as we waited for my brother to pass when I had his oxygen turned off.
Penney what a beautiful picture.
Mary every time I see you on here it makes me do counter pushups! Thank you!
Dawn I just want too pick that little one up and snuggle her into my neck - normal gramma stuff
Barbie how long are you going to be in Seattle? How long is DH's surgery and which hospital?
Another box of Kleenex is calling out to me so be back later.
Smoogie moogies
Gloria in WA1 -
Gloria, Jake's surgery is June 29 at Swedish Cherry Hill....the doctor says he'll be in the hospital either one night or two depending on what happens during the surgery....I have no idea how much time I'll spend with him and how much time I'll spend walking around so I get my 10,000+ steps....I'll be taking it one minute at a time...there is a hotel facility right in the hospital so we'll arrive the day before so he can report bright and early on the morning of the surgery and I'll have a place to stay while he's in the hospital.
Sue, best wishes learning to drive around Everett...we've been there before to go to ice hockey games (the Silvertips).
Theresa from Toledo, congrats on your success, so far...you've come to the right community for support and encouragement.
The frisky poodles are ready for their bedtime walk...that should get my step count to 19,000 for the day.

Auroranae – Beautiful baby. Looks like DYS and DDnL#2 are going to have to revert to trying IVF to have a baby. Please keep them in your prayers; this goes for EVERYBODY. She is so disappointed to get the bad news that her tubes are totally blocked. Hoping and praying it works for them. A niece had to go through it and it worked the first time. Church members, one had twins, the other had triplets. That was close to 20 years ago; so I know they know more about the procedure than they did back then. Last year both my DYS and I had ‘dreams’ of them having ‘twins’ … several nights in a row; but, when he had a dream of ‘triplets’ … she said, ‘shut your mouth’!
Meg – That’s funny, running to the sound of pill bottles rattling. That is one way the “Cracker” knows I am ‘awake’. Yeah, Meg, I do have a ‘good attitude’ about ‘bipolar disorder’ and ‘seizures’. I had had a seizure since August of 2013; so I was a bit disappointed to have one and be on a ‘state-mandated’ driving restriction. My DH has not allowed me to drive on the Interstate since then.
Marcelynh – Sorry that you DH got sick while y’all were diving in the Caribbean. We used to do it years ago; haven’t done it in quite a while; but, it is so much fun to be weightless and looking at all the beautiful things that grow in the ocean. There is a man in town who has mapped a ‘lot’ of the underground springs around here; (cave diving) but won’t dive in the ocean. He had to go on a body retrieval when 2 divers went into the Springs AFTER they were told to stay out of them. I’m too claustrophobic to even want to dive in a cave. Closet thing I came to doing so was diving through a formation in the rock that felt like you were underground. The dive master had to pull me through it. I sort of ‘freaked’.
Isabel in AZ – Welcome. You’ll find a bunch of encouragement and you will learn that we all talk about just about anything here.
Drkatiebug – Smoking is an ‘expensive, bad habit’. KUDOS to your DH for ‘saving’ what he would have normal spent on it.
Carol – I cannot image what those parents are going through. DH said that he and his brother swam in so many creeks, rivers, canals, lakes, ponds, and they ‘never’ even thought about alligators and this was in Florida.
Laoighse – ‘Names’ and the spelling and pronunciation. Reminds me of a joke … Little girl goes to school and writes her name “Le-Sia”. Every time teacher tried to say it the little girl would roll her eyes. "No, it is not Leesia, it is not Lisa, it is not Lesee, it is ... La Dash sia; the Dash is NOT silent”.
Kim – My boys were ‘in scouts’ when they were younger at a ‘Catholic School’. But, they’ve closed down the “Boy Scout Camp” near here for lack of participation. I can remember going for 2 weeks to ‘Girl Scout Camp” and it seemed like it took ‘forever’. I think my parents drove around a lot so that we would not know how close it really was to ‘home’. I think the first time I went without my sister; I got pneumonia. My parents had gone to Florida to a funeral of my great-grandmother. I remember them literally packing me in ‘ice’ to bring my temperature down. My aunt came and got me. Parents too far away to come back to do so themselves.
Becca - Happy belated birthday; glad that your DH came through the surgery, been saying my prayers for y'all. Tomorrow (6/16) ... our DOS turns '40' ... talk about making you feel like time has flown by. Seems just like yesterday they were little, bitty. Oldest DGD turned 20 in March. That is really something that makes me feel my age; but, I was a young "Nana". MGD is going to go get her 'learner's license' tomorrow. She is NOT looking forward to it at all. Parents have 'made' her study to get it. Hope she passes the first go round. It would be more convenient if she was able to drive, it'd help me out a lot. But, she probably won't drive into town. She needs to have a little practice driving.
Lenora1 -
Did an hour of the deep water class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a The Firm Super Sculpting DVD.
Karen - I was thinking that if you put in Chocolate chips, you probably need the mini chips since they're going into the cake. But now that you say you're melting them first, you can probably use the regular sized chips. I don't think those put on top of the cake will sink to the bottom. I'm going to have to try this for Vince, the confirmed chocoholic. I'm assuming this is a 4oz (or the smaller size, whatever it is) of a box of pudding mix. Right? Hungry Girl has a recipe where you take chocolate cake mix and mix it with a can of pumpkin for these brownies.
Kim - what a wonderful feeling when things balance! I'm always so very relieved.
I absolutely love the feeling that I can post things on here and not have to worry that it'll get back to someone, everyone here is a unjudgmental but also can give me different perspectives.
janetr - hope you get better fast
Joyce - so glad to hear that Charlie is in good spirits
Carey - big congrats on being smoke free. that only helps you
Exercised then went to the home of the gal who does sewing for me. I had asked if she had any scraps of cloth at least 10" by 7", mostly cotton (like a t-shirt). With Hancock Fabrics out of business by me, I didn't know where to go. I did give her $5 for it. Then came home and made more brookies. This time I used only one egg and they came out much better. Got another estimate to have 3 pine trees taken down in our yard (I hate them, they are so messy and they are above our septic, I would really rather have deciduous trees there so in the winter at least sunshine can get thru), then went in the pool, came in and started the dishwasher, cut up the brookies, got dinner ready, then to ceramics. Did the second coat on the head of the wolf and the first coat on the white part of the seaturtle. Now home.
While I was in the pool this bug bit me and boy did it ever hurt. Not a stinger but I kept my foot in the water all the time. After laying out I usually do a bit of swimming but I got a bad cramp, so bad that I didn't do all of the swimming but came in and took a shower.
Dawn - congrats on all the celebrations this week. Congrats on the loss
barbie - I totally forgot about the Caring Bridge site! What a great idea. A friend of mine who had cancer had one and it was a real godsend.
Isabel - welcome! You're NOT a failure. You're just human. You will get that off, that's for sure
Why am I so hot suddenly?????
Becca - if today is your birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
DJ - prayers for your friend (and you)
Karen - LOL
theresakrause - welcome. Congrats on all your accomplishments. I know that there will be only more to come
Lenora - praying that the IVF works. I know only too well the heartbreak of not being able to have your own children. But modern medicine does wonders today

Greetings!
Sue – Too bad I wasn’t posting before you moved. It would have been delightful to meet with you. I’m only an hour from Sioux Falls and go there quite often for shopping and events. I hope you’re enjoying your new home in WA!
Becca – Happy Birthday! Hope you had a nice day.
Pip – your stats amaze me!! You set a great example for others.
Wishing you all a great day.

Gloria - I'm so happy that you are still doing the counter push-ups! Move your feet back an inch every day for a while and that will increase the resistance. Then we'll talk about doing them on the edge of the chair braced against the wall!
Michele - drink 1/4 cup of pickle juice right away and your cramp will go away almost immediately. I think it's the ph balancing of the vinegar combined with the salt that adds electrolytes. I hope that the bug bite gets better.

Hi All!
Another exotic and exciting day in North Texas… it is hot and humid, constantly threatening rain – and we have had plenty, thank you. I wish we could transplant this weather to someplace that isn’t already flooded.
I can’t recall who asked me, but, I work at a major bank in the Mortgage Division doing modifications for distressed homeowners. Big Brother blocks most of the social networking sites, so things like Facebook or my personal e-mail are not available to me during the day – however we are not strictly forbidden to do some small amount of personal use of the computers. We can’t load anything, or take anything off (can you say financial privacy?) – but we can go to google, or shop (as long as there are no pictures of women in underwear – lol) or pay our bills. I have done all those things during my lunch time or breaks, so I do appreciate it. With DH with less than stellar health/mobility, I have little enough time to do what needs doing. I love being able to get “business” things done at work.
Today we had a doctor’s appointment and I had to be into work early for a meeting, so I didn’t make it to the gym. I am finding that I kind of miss it when I don’t get it, but, I get lazy again REALLY fast, so I don’t want to miss too many days during the work week. I get to be a Slug on Sunday – all other days are supposed to be ACTIVE.
Speaking of... my company did a Get Active campaign this spring, which just finished up. They sent me a T-Shirt… uh… ok. They didn’t ask what size to send… I don’t think they asked anybody… but, it’s size XL… er… about two X’s short…. But, I guess now, that will be my next milestone… to fit into that sausage skin of a shirt.
I am starting today with the response as I read, so…
Carey – GRATZ on two years smoke free! It took me forever to really and truly quit – it was SOOO hard. Kudos to you!
Lenora – I think you may be right – a lot of the problems out there are caused by the “lost boys” in our society. Getting them back starts with stronger families – remember when your uncle or your aunt would smack your butt if you did wrong? When you were expected to do whatever ANY adult told you to do? Nobody would dare, now… and without constant supervision and input from responsible adults – kids can so easily get sucked in to whatever the “thing” of the moment is. Too many times that is a hate-based “thing” and that just leads to tragedy.
I will think good thoughts for your DS and his wife as they try the in Vitro thing. A friend’s niece went through that – and it was hard – but, she ended up with a pair of wonderful twin boys…so keep hoping.
Dawn – Kenzie is GORGEOUS! My Stepdaughter is only 8 yrs. younger than I am… so my Grandbabies are grown and heading off into adulthood. I miss that New Baby Smell… :]
Meg – Menopause… *sighs* I am so not looking forward to that. If that is the verdict, you will have to give those of us who have not yet had the pleasure a blow by blow…. I have heard stories – but not from anyone up close and personal.
Marcelyn – Jealous! I would be happy to hit the hammock for a few hours – but, I feel for you missing the Diving. Hope Hubby recovers quickly.
Heather – Chocolate tea? How have I missed this? It sounds fab…
Hi Katla – every time you talk about Oregon, it makes me a smidge nostalgic… I may live in TX, now, but I am a West Coast girl… I graduated from the UofO and my feet are properly webbed – even after 15 yrs. in TX.
Isabel – these ladies are amazing – and I feel you on the regaining the weight. I have spent my whole life yo-yoing up and down. It was only when I decided that I was going to make life changes – rather than diet – that I got it together. You have to do something that you never “go off” doing… because, otherwise, it’s yo-yo city.
Linda/IA – Music is powerful. Your DD will be affected by it for her whole life. I wish we could give all kids the experience of being part of a musical troupe – it might be one of those things that stopped some of the madness.
Glo – Kleenex with lotion… feel better, Hon.
Tshirtartist “In the last 15 years I haven't let myself get past 30lbs. Truthfully that is my cut off point.” I feel ya… we all have one of those. Mine was that I was NEVER going to weigh 300 lbs again… every time I veered over 275 – I kicked myself in the butt and stepped away from the sweets. Gratz on keeping most of that massive loss off!
Kay – wow – DH has some willpower. My DH would have frittered it all away, by now. Your Man sounds like a keeper.
Carol – sometimes, round these parts, you just don’t get on the freeway… Dallas Traffic… *shudder*
Laoighse – wish I could hear the accent… lol. Hope you will find more time, soon.
Mary – sounds like you have the cabin well in hand… Have fun with your company. And you ROCK on the exercise. I guess I am going to have to look up this “kettlebell” thing.
Becca – I hope you and hubby get a little time to relax with all this madness. My husband’s doc told us a shower secret – to keep the wounds covered – you get the Glad cling-wrap – the kind that sticks to the bowl? And wrap the wounds in that – it sticks to the skin and keeps the water off – so much more effective than the old plastic bag method. And you are so right for not being too upset about the gain. You went to the meeting, that was a start. And it’s not like you have oodles of time on your hands.
Penny – I always enjoy your notes from the Great White North.
Pip – go, go go! You exercise goddess, you!
If I didn’t reply to you specifically, my apologies. I will try to do better next time.
Everybody keep up the good work!

Michele, hope the bug bite and you being hot is not related.
Joyce in SD, my cousins used to live in Sioux Falls and recently one posted some pictures on Face book of the falls. Oh my how gorgeous!
Lenora, one year that we decided to really spend a lot of money at Disney, we tried snorkeling at the water park. I have looked forward to that for so long and it was on my bucket list so you can imagine how excited I was to do it. Plus my self confidence in it was pretty high. So they take us through this mini lesson and set us loose! Uhm, I think I needed more than a mini lesson and as soon as I started out pretty close to the man made lagoon I was panicking because I couldn't breath. Logically I knew that the tube was above water and there was air but I just couldn't do it. I went back and tried in very shallow water numerous times and just couldn't so I accepted defeat and went into the 'sunken pirate ship' in the lagoon and watched my family have a great time. I think Charlie was determined to do it right so that he could protect his little girls. Two years ago we went to Panama City beach and took a boat out and dropped anchor and the whole family snorkeled all over. Charlie wouldn't even try. I at least got in the water to play around and then Charlie and I tried to get me back in the boat and it was like trying to get a whale on board. I didn't think we would ever get me aboard that boat. But i wasn't about to have the kids see me that way.
Speaking of kids, my oldest grand daughter is in Florida right now. Her best friend take her and another girl along every year since they are best friends with their two girls. They stay 2 weeks. I guess it's nice to have money. I can't remember when the last time I saw her was but when she goes back to school in August the boys are going to wonder what happened to this young lady. She has now grown up. Well I was going to download a pic but it says file not allowed. HMMM. I guess it is according to the privacy setting on face book of the family that took them. How do young girls grow up so much in one summer?????
Barbie, am thinking of you and Jake as his surgery comes up. I am glad you are staying in a hotel the night before. I am from the good ol' days when you are admitted into the hospital the night before and get a sleeping pill! I don't like this stuff of getting there 2 hours before surgery. I'm glad he is in touch with his feminine side enough to go to the going away dinner and to get a hug,
Tonight we had our trio practice for Father's Day. I don't know what happened to me. Last week I had all the notes and tonight it wasn't there. It is a song that is continually changing keys, it starts out in its lowest key and has the same intervals each time and i have no troubles as the song goes along but the first verse I just cannot get. I have this piano app on my iPad and I will practice on it before we have another practice Saturday.
Charlie went out Karaoke tonight!!! I dropped him off on my way to choir and then went back and picked him up. When i was entering the building he was singing and it was so nice to hear his strong beautiful voice. And then he sang one more song before we left. The last song he sang was Frank Sinatra 'I did it my way'. He can really belt it out. But yet he can't get in a good meeow so he and the cat can talk.

Re- look up StrongFirst on the Internet. They have great instructional videos. I love to eat and am actually really lazy so I like to burn the most calories in the shortest amount of time without sweating and weight lifting, Kettlebell swings do that. 15-20 calories burned per minute compared to the average of 8 plus the after burn! Walking is fun with my dog!

DJ – sending good thoughts for your friend.
Welcome newbies!
So remember the gardening job at the children’s camp I am hoping to get, well finally they are ready to start the process. So I am putting together a resume…I have not done that since 2008 before owning my businesses, lining up references and my interview is next Thursday – which is going to be crazy as next week I am running cooking camp – So I will be working 8-5 then quick change and drive 30 minutes to the interview… I know I’ll be tired, but it is at a kids camp so they know how crazy you are by the end of camp. In addition next week it is supposed to be between 90-100 degrees each day. In the long run this will be worth it… And I did talk to my friend who has the job now and she will be one of two references.
I think I have my resume done, I’ll “sleep on it” review it tomorrow and then send it on.
So ladies I promise to log next week – but if you do not see me it is because of camp – so I work 8-5 each day (am class is 13 kids afternoon class is 16 kids) all baking! My assistant is my god daughter so she will be staying with me – which will be a good help but also means I have dinner to fix or at least have food for…
June Goals
1 fun thing a week, graduation, visiting with Vickie, working in Eden garden,
Log everyday to the best I can, over if need be.
11,000 + steps everyday
Smiles.

Barbie I had no idea there was a hotel at Swedish. Since I can't drive you maybe I can come and meet you for coffee or tea. I would walk with you but my knees don't like the hills. So going to get at least left knee done this year - just keeps getting worse and interfering with sleep.
DJ hugs and prayers for you and your friend.
Theresa welcome and sounds like you are doing great!
Some of you may remember when I posted about my niece's 1 year old who was born with a genetic heart disease and was having another open heart surgery. He came through that one with flying colors - Superman to be precise. I never shared with you that he had to have a foot amputated a couple of months ago that had something to do with this heart disease - again Superman! Then last week the doctors decided he was strong enough to do the complete open heart procedure rather than a quick fix. I don't know what happened but I was told that Little Alexander aka Superman was not going to make it. My heart mourns for my niece Carrissa and her 13yr old son Xavier. They have had to endure so much during this past year and a half and have been so brave. I am praying for peace for them and the rest of their extended family and friends as well as the doctors and nurses who fought so diligently for Alexander to live a normal pain free life. Our little Superman may no longer sore here on earth but he's probably teaching a lot of other little Angels how to use their wings.
Life is short - live it to your fullest
