I had to look up a kipping pullup. What the what? Lotta flappin' going on.

"Crossfit takes complicated movements and gets rid of all the useless [crap] like effectiveness and safety and replaces it with cool [crap] like violence and danger. Case in point: the kipping pullup. Crossfit has revolutionized fitness by teaching the correct way to do an incorrect pullup."

"Crossfit is...intense athletic training for the professional non-athlete. This is good for sports like...running your mouth about how awesome crossfit is."

    lol +1

My general response to someone with bad form is to slyly and discretely pull my phone out, pretend I'm messing with my music, and take a long video. Then, my buddies and I have a long laugh and drink beer.

To be fair, that isn't a kipping pull up either.

I believe it is intended to be comedic, but I might be going out on a limb there. ;)

I know, but you said you had to look it up and provided this as if you now understand. Lot's of people believe things that were intended to be jokes. The interwebz is weird.

I created a crossfit bashing thread so we can debate whether it is a good idea to correct someone's form here.
    Spoiler
Even though @usmcmp basically ended the thread on the first page.

The crossfit has its one end of a plane hanger (it's huge) and there is a place for military personal to do there "workouts" so...yes and no

I think you have good intentions and this is not meant to be mean, but to make a point. As far as unsolicited advice, even if it is correcting someone, well, how's this:

How are partial reps a good excersise strategy? That's ridiculous..."here...do half the work and you'll do fine". Maybe for the people who like not making progress.

It depends on the context, and context is a very, very, very (note my emphasis) critical thing when trying to evaluate whether or not someone is using their time productively.

Here are some things to be aware of:

    1) Individual limitations/injury status may prevent someone from full ROM but allow them to use partial ROM.
    2) Partial ROM on specific exercises might be warranted to overload a portion of the exercise. Spoto Press and to a lesser extent board/pin presses and rack pulls might be examples.
    3) You may have no idea what goals someone has and it may dictate how they perform a given exercise.

There are probably more examples than this.

Finally your statement about "maybe for people who don't like making progress" is false. You can make plenty of progress using partial ROM.

Actually, it's not even her opinion. She was quoting someone else.

This is hilarious and pretty much summed up what I was imagining while reading this thread

Kipping pull ups to most lifters is similar to how you feel about partial reps. Kipping removes a significant portion of the work from the back, which is the point of doing a pull up. Many lifters would never do 200 pull ups, they would add weight to ensure they can't do that many. More bang for their buck when it comes to building size and/or strength. This is why I said I would not correct people in the gym, you don't know their training or their goals.

Preach! I don't think you should be allowed to call it a pull-up if you're using momentum to get reps.

But shouldn't we as...people...help each other. It's not like I'm the *kitten* who walks around as a no it all...but i genuinely want to help people.
And as a fellow athlete, I think it's right we should hold each other to a higher standard

Understand trying to help but do you know anything more than they do? Do they have some limitation thar can't allow them perfect form and they need to modify an exercise?

Partial reps are very helpful! Rack pulls have helped my lockout on deadlifts for sure

I belonged to a gym where the owner did partial reps sometimes in his workout. He had a bronze medal from the Olympics in weight lifting

You're not using momentum to get reps. You're engaging multiple muscle groups in order to meet the objective (chest to bar). Kipping is not simply "moving your legs to get momentum" the OP described. It is a gymnastics technique centered around core engagement. takes timing, power, and coordination.

    But does he CrossFit? ;)

Unfortunately he passed away before crossfit became a thing. He weighted about 260 and would do a set of 20 dips with 180 pounds chained around his waist as a finisher, did jumps to a 4 ft box, etc. Would probably be okay as a crossfitter

No, or he'd have won gold.

    It's one word...Grow up.

LOL..."grow up" says the snot-nosed kid who wants to run around correcting the universe. This entire thread has been dedicated to telling you to grow up. I assume you are utterly uncomprehending as to the delicious irony of this. As well as the irony of writing "your wrong." I suspect you would bring the same scintillating knowledge to the form corrections you would like to make.
