What nobody tells you about losing weight

You need to change your selfie angles, and that's a surprisingly large amount of work. What worked for you before won't work for you now.17

That it COULD take for fudging EVER to lose that last bit of fat on that last problem area!! ... That everything else could Go. To. Bones before said area disappears!! Smh Yes, I'm annoyed but staying the course. Lol19

1) With regards to wardrobe: the sheer volume of workout clothes (tech/moisture-wicking shirts, shorts, running tights, fancy socks, running shoes, etc) that I have managed to accumulate. And how often I use my workout clothes as my going-out-and-about clothes.
2) My unending appetite. I've gotten a bunch smarter about snacking (lots of fruits, veggies, and water during the day). But since I've started running and cycling, it seems like I'm constantly hungry.
All worthwhile, no doubt about it
SO true!! I do laundry constantly now just to keep the house from smelling like a locker room.
LIFE has changed.
- Before, every trip out of the house would mean time consuming planning what to wear that would camouflage the belly roll and the thigh rub - or just be comfortable enough to wear without pinching, rubbing, or chaffing. Misery! Now for casual I head out in a pair of running tights and a tech shirt and never give it a thought. Work clothes are a breeze because things fit and look good.
- Before "going out to do something" ALWAYS centered around food. Satisfying on the front end, but soon over leaving a legacy of pounds in it's wake. Now "going out to do something" means DOING something. A run with friends, biking, a swim that doesn't have me cringing at showing up in a bathing suit.
- Before I could barely walk a mile. Now I have lots of 5Ks under my belt and am training for my first 1/2 marathon. I'm 61 years old and I have never been happier or healthier in my life ...Times have changed!54 -
That you could loose 80 lbs and feel fantastic until someone posts a picture of you and you still look like a whale. . . :-(
Makes me wonder if the last 60 will be worth it.15 -

Think about how you felt dragging that extra weight around. Would you really want to strap it all back on? I completely understand as I went bathing suit shopping recently. Even though last year was an 18W and this year is a 10/12 juniors, I see the fat, the part I want to just chop off. BUT I know I feel soooo much better. so yes, it's worth it!16 -

I love it especially since my own household was not supportive at all and pokes fun to this day over my "obsession". Best quote anyone has given me lately is that "obsessed is the word that the lazy use to describe the dedicated"...never give up even when the people you thought/hoped would be the most supportive are exactly the opposite.
LOVE that quote!!4 -

You're not alone. Its sucks when your support structure turns on you. Misery loves company. After I calmed down, I realize the psycology. I lost weight with no surgery, minimal exercise, metformin and a big big focus on diet controll. Not bad but the challenge is the other 50 lbs and maintainance.

Agnelfire356, the answer to that is yes. Yes it is worth it, 100%. The improved health, those moments of catching your reflection and thinking "wow!" (and those *will* happen). Yep.
A picture is just a capture of a single moment. The lighting, camera angle, awkward pose, a bad hair day, unplanned gust of wind--any of those things can make that captured moment not reflect reality.
You've accomplished something huge, and are well on your way to something greater. Be kind to yourself--you're amazing!23 -
-you actually start to enjoy working out..(took me two weeks,) but tonight I had this grin on my face the whole workout.......then made my hubby feel how sweaty I got with pride hahahha20

All of this is so true. I still have 30 to go. Down 120. I am amazed every morning that those little underwear go up over my behind.28 -
that people will straight up ask if you are starving yourself.... wtf (my dad, and I am 30 haha)9

Yes! I had someone ask me if I was sick because of the weight loss....when I said "excuse me?", she said "well some people drop a lot of weight when they're sick."7 -
I never though losing 50 lbs would mean going through puberty again. The same hormones amount of hormones are in a 50 lb less container. I breaking out with pimples and Im not myself. F word. Contrasting that, Im taking Joint / Bone Support supplements ($$$) like an old man. Lastly, Im buying $100 Airmax just for strictly for running, separate sneakers for work and separate sneakers for everyday. I hope these sneakers cam last 6 months. On upside the new Airmax seems to elimate the knee foot pain.7

Thanks guys; you'll all making me cry at work! {{hugs}}8

YES, the last 60 will be worth it BECAUSE IT'S THE LAST 60!!
I was feeling pretty pleased with myself after losing about 30 pounds (15 before MFP, 15 with MFP) until I saw a candid pic of myself...that was discouraging because I felt thinner than I actually looked. But I kept going, and now, after another 15, I'm not horrified by pics. Just motivated to keep on, and instead of despairing at my problem areas, I analyze them so I can focus my exercise routine. Still have 30 to go to be in a reasonable range, but just tackling it 10 at a time.
Hang in there! Don't give up when the end is a LOT closer than the beginning!

I just wanted to say, thank you for this thread. I was going through a rough transition and this is great to see that I am not alone!17

My Dad would always tell me not to get "Too skinny", pretty sure that will never happen. The sick thing happened too, after not going to a monthly poker game for a while, I showed up and my brother's friend pulled him to the side to ask him if I was sick, he was worried about me.3 -
Its really weird when the opposite sex gives you a second look or Grandmas (my patients) tend to point their granddaughters at me (one mother pointed her gay son at me). It must be my imagination (the only people who would be interested in me are girls who like guys that look like Stone Cold Steve Austin or like Bulldogs/ Shar-Peis). I have never attracted a second look even when I was skinny. But my wife says I'm oblivious. Maybe I should take my wedding ring off my gold chain and put it on my finger again (do I look like a widower?). But I wash my hands at werk all the time (skin irritation).4

I understand about the rung thing. I'm a hairstylist by trade and know the constant water can give you "ring rot" I don't know what it's call but all the water and soap under the ring gives you a rash. There is a product called liquid glove I believe that helps with the water. I think that your not comfortable with the new attention and that is very normal. Just start to look into how you feel around self worth. When someone compliments you how do you feel? Can you receive it or do you deflect it. There is so much tied up in how we feel about being attractive.2 -
Liquid soap seeping out through the spaces between my fingers. What the heck??12

That things I thought to be true about myself were all wrong.
1. That I could never be as thin as my sisters because they got the "good genes"
2. That I have a large frame
3. That I am not athletic, hate working out, and definitely can't run
Also, the one about all the laundry - good grief yes.
And no one told me my feet were fat.

Bumping this up because it's a great source of motivation for me.7

My legs would look worse after loosing 120 pounds. I can't wear shorts in public. The skin on my thighs is atrocious. I do wear them just above the knee, but won't show any more leg than that. When swimming I wear trishorts.5

Having more clothing options has been great but i also spend 2x longer at clothing stores than i used to, now that i have more options.. looks like i love clothes lol14

If they're anything like mine, it's loose skin. But you know what? Even loose, jiggly, wrinkled skin is better than fat filled skin. Wear short shorts with your head held high - you WORKED hard for those legs, don't ever be ashamed of them!26 -

Not just loose skin it's all lumpy and the varicose veins look like a road map. Not bad from the knee down. In fact I have calf muscles I thought I would never see again.10 -
