What nobody tells you about losing weight

Family members now feel as though they can pat your stomach whilst making a weight related comment
I get my butt patted and hands put on my waist. I dont mind when it is family, but when a co-worker does it I feel like she is trying to see if I am wearing something to make my waist look smaller. She does it quite often. And who touches someone without asking. Just weird to me.14 -
What nobody told me is that there comes a point that everything just comes together and it’s *almost* easy to continue to lose weight.
For instance, this weekend, I was out of town visiting family. I passed up some treats without too much trouble while still having a few of my favourites. The scale says I’m up a pound for the weekend, but that’s totally okay. Today, I’m back to my new normal way of eating and exercising and that pound will be gone in no time.
Six months in and 45 lbs down and I have no desire to go back to my old normal…

What the... the things I read in these forums about people who seem challenged in the personal boundaries department amaze me. I can guarantee that the first time someone patted me *kitten*, or any other part of me, would be their last. This doesn't apply to the boyfriend, in that case this behavior is generally encouraged.
Edited for wording.18 -

I would push her hands away from me and say quite loudly: 'exCUSE ME?' I would not tolerate anyone patting my *kitten*, especially at work. The waist patting I would still push her hands away and ask her not to do that again. Rude people are rude.

That's a "touch me again and I'll see you in HR" scenario.....22 -
Some people won't be supportive.
They'll see you actually making a positive change and not making excuses, and realise they don't have much excuse to complain about their weight anymore so they try to bring you down with them.
Unfortunate fact, but thankfully they're not the majority.19 -

This! My eyes look much bigger!12 -
I don't know if anyone else has felt this, but I felt pretty silently judgmental today toward a couple of girls talking about their (unhealthy) weight loss plans. One was super proud of herself for only eating a sandwich and nothing else the day before, and the other was talking about how she starts gaining weight if she eats more than 600 calories in a day. I don't know either of them well enough to say anything, but it just amazed me how willing they were to encourage each other's desire to starve themselves, especially since neither of them is all that overweight. I've always been more of a "live and let live" kind of person, so it surprised me how much it bothered me.
Back in Highschool my best female friend had SUGAR Packet lunches. Yes, ONE packet. And she was slim! If I only I was the person then that I am now, I could have done some good. But what the *kitten* did I know about life back then. My "no lunch" lunch wasnt better (no money).7 -

In fact I had to drink a glass of water to wash the sweet taste out of my mouth! It was almost like eating a spoon of pure sugar. I used to love stuff like that but haven't had cake in ages as I didn't think it was worth the calories. Now I can't even stand the sweetness of stuff like that.
Before I lost weight, I liked sweets, but not too sweet. I was the person that would scrape the frosting off cake. Now I would love to eat all the frosting on the cake and everyone else's frosting too. It doesn't seem right, or fair11 -

I'm only three days into my journey, and I notice that I sleep much better. Also, I don't have to get up 3 times in the night to pee!14

My husband told me my teeth are huge now that my cheeks aren't so chubby. I agree8

I was not prepared for the hormonal roller coaster ride. Seriously. It's like being a teenager again.
I've spoken to my doctor about it a few times, to no avail. Unfortunately, feeling slightly over-emotional a lot of the time has made it difficult to enjoy having lost weight, and has had a dampening effect on my quality of life. I'm not done yet, either, and have about 30 lbs left until I am.
Anyone else experiencing this? Does it improve? Does your body just have to get used to being smaller and more efficient? Or should I be more insistent with my doctor?
I've heard that when you're gaining weight, all the emotions you were feeling as you got fatter were stored in the fat and as you lose the weight, you feel those things again. I don't know if it's BS or not, but I do know one time when I lost weight I was irrationally angry about everything, for weeks.
Maybe I was hangry! hahahaha22 -
When I was at my highest weight I used to feel self conscious or guilty about eating certain foods in public, wondering if people were judging me for my "poor choices".
Now, if it fits into my calories and I'm hungry, I eat it without feeling self conscious at all. I'm in control of my eating, I'm in control of my weight, and if I choose to eat something then I do, other people's opinions be darned. It's very liberating!42 -
How weird new clothes can feel. Especially those that fit well. I was so used to wearing bigger baggies clothes. It takes getting used to wearing stuff closer to your skin.
BUT I figure if I put all this time into losing weight I might as well look it.27 -
How I used to think baggier clothes were flattering (read: bulk hiding) and now when I wear a baggy t-shirt I feel that I look bigger than I am, and want to swap it out for something more fitted.40

Absolutely! I love form fitting clothes now! I'll love them even more after my last 35 go away!!17

That I could loose 37 pounds and go from sz 20 (tight) jeans to 16 comfortable and people don't notice or comment. (Other than hubby and mom both who know I'm loosing)
I do have a lot to loose I just thought that it 2 sizes and almost 40 pounds would show.....but who cares I FEEL so much better and that's why I'm doing it.35 -

Give it enough time and enough loss.. people will comment... not nescessarily in positive way. Brace yourself. Thats when all the haters show their colors and you know who will always support you ... no matter what you look like.18 -

It was 100# and 3, nearly 4 sizes before my first real comment. Seriously, people are afraid to comment a lot of the time, so as not to offend. It's okay, you just need to worry about you, and making your own positive comments to yourself!18 -

Right there with ya. About 38 down & my best friend says she can't tell at all but my husband & mother can. Funny how that works eh?9 -
You go into the clothing stores and still try on 3x and 4x clothes because you still feel big feel band realize the clothes are really too big! #awesomefeelingtowear2X19

I think it depends on where you lose first. People started commenting to me at about 40#, I lose in my face first though. One person at work said something at that point, a guy, and he said he had noticed a while ago, but didn't want to say anything because he didn't know how to bring it up. Sometimes it's a hard subject for people.15 -
That your weight does not come off right away, but you can still lose inches right away and how weird it your legs feel when you go to bed.11

I noticed that calorie counting allows guilt free cheating. Its all math (MFP does it for you), timing and exercise/activity. As long as know your limits.30

Things that used to be a chore and hard to do are not....standing to water garden.. painting toe nails....shaving legs...hiking hills...used to hate the hills now I go hiking to places I know have more hills.21
