I have 2 dogs.....one is a rescue (besenjii mix) and the other is a black lab puppy. It's too hot to walk them in my area right now. I am so looking forward to it cooling down to take them out. They definitely keep me moving.3

We have a 19 1/2 year old chihuahua( Gizzy) who up until 4 yrs ago would walk 5 miles and look for more. We have a 10 yr old Siberian husky ( Timber) who didn't want to be a lead sled dog. So we picked him when he was 2 1/2 yrs old. He loves the indoors and is a true beauty to look at. Timber loves our 1 1/2 yr old cat. When thunder booms they lay next to each other and shake in fear. Kind of funny to watch, but not funny that they are stressed from it. Once school is back in session timber and I will be hitting the trails in the morning ( we have had an issue with an aggressive female dog and the teenager lets it out.so waiting for school to start). That's us.7

They sound like great dogs! I walk my dog in the morning and in the evening when it's cooler.
It's been a hot summer in Michigan.0 -

I love that Timber and your cat are buddies! Does Gizzy get along with the cat? My dog is fascinated with a black cat in our neighborhood. They just stop and stare at eachother.2 -
I go walking 1-2 miles most every night with these two... although, the short legged blond one makes me carry her sometimes. LOL
I think the reason they love going with me so much is because I carry a container of ice water for them to drink (it's been pretty hot lately) It's all about the water, not about time with me at all!
The larger floppy eared dog is a rescue we got after Thanksgiving, if 6:30pm rolls around and we're not already out walking she goes insane. If it's raining out, she keeps us up all night full of energy - she is now about 15 months old and still has all her puppy craziness going on!
The other one is 5.5 years old now, she sits there with us and watches the other dog run around like crazy.7 -

Roxie and I did 2 laps today. My goal is one more tonight...which will make 1 mile.
Happy walking friends.2 -

I take my pitbull named Ruger for a good long walk almost every night. He's almost 2 now and just starting to settle into a fantastic dog. He is working very hard at changing my neighbors mind from the evil dog stereotype he came with as a puppy. He loves my children and tolerates my cats.1

That's awesome! Are they good walking together with you? I watch our neighbor's dog once in a while, and it's hard to walk 2 dogs at once, without getting tangled.0 -

I haven't walked both of them at once by myself yet. He husky is a bit powerful and he's has that puppy curiosity.
So snugly and cuddly!!!!!
I love how they're best buddies2 -
There's one more, a 14 yo beagle, who doesn't like the "dog park" i.e. backyard, he leaves it to the puppies3 -
Great thread! Here is Scout and he goes with me on all my runs/hikes
Here is at 9 weeks and 9 lbs when he first came home
3 yrs old and 110 lbs
One of the trails we go on is loaded with Gopher holes. He can never resist sticking in head in hole hoping to catch one!

We have 3 rescue dogs and Ziggy, our Russell Terrier. Ziggy loves being active, but due to his deformed front legs, he is unable to go on regular walks as the sides of his front claws wear down until they bleed. He was a decent swimmer when he was young, but now he makes us nervous as he tires quickly and shows poor judgment about when to stop.
Ollie, our bully mix, would be a great running buddy, except that he wanders unpredictably as he runs with me and is a tripping hazard. He and Skippy go out on long walks together, although they don't realize that the purpose is exercise and think that they are out there to hunt small animals. We believe Skippy is a Jackshund, so he is full of energy until he tires suddenly (short little dachshund legs) and needs to be carried for a bit. Skippy does not run on a leash - he slows down if Ollie goes faster than he likes. Luckily, Ollie thinks his main job is to provide protection to the little dogs, so he is careful to match Skippy's pace.
We rescued Zoey, a Jack Russell mix, from Animal Control, where she faked being completely deaf (we suspect there are some hearing and vision deficits, but she definitely reacts to sound). She was very thin when we got her, and it seems to have traumatized her a bit. She is now quite overweight and does not get much exercise. She has many issues (lacks coordination and muscle tone, only turns to the left, poor vision, poor doggy social skills, and she is just plain mean at times), but she is part of the pack and has shown some ability to learn. We've tried taking her on walks on her own and with the other dogs. She does not like them. She won't walk on grass or on pavement and neither temperature nor time of day affects her unwillingness to walk. She will walk on the driveway until she gets to the car (she loves car rides), at which point she lies down and refuses to move. She will walk for short distances on concrete sidewalks and in stores.
