    Overview:
I'm not usually one for long bike rides, but the gym at my school is closed for the next week until the semester starts so biking is my only cross training option for now. I actually had a really enjoyable ride, though I never could get my HR up to even an "easy run" range -_- my leg is starting to improve so I'm hoping I'll only need a few more days off now!

Wow, @MobyCarp - very impressive race! I know your weather is pretty much same as mine and having run this morning I'm so in awe you were able to knock it out of the park like that! Great job.

@juliet3455 that's very sweet of you. It will be two years in September that I lost my sister. Her courage and strength through the whole horrible process really inspired me to push myself and to start running for the first time a year ago.

@katharmonic - OMG, that's such a great photo of your doggie.
@ddmom0811 - Thanks! I hope you do get another dog. Maybe your little guy will appreciate the alone time!
    @MobyCarp - Super impressed!
@shanaber - The account of your run cracked me up! Maybe a little hung over...never been there *wink*wink*

For those that responded to my heart rate question last week...I think it must have been a conductivity issue. I did the same type of run today, only 9 degrees warmer, 3 miles longer and 60ft more elevation change. Avg pace was 2 seconds per mile slower, but overall, my HR was 5 bps lower and the data looked more normal and the graph more fluid. I feel much better about that.

This morning's run was 13 miles. To say I was sweaty when I got home would be an understatement. I grabbed some water and stood at my kitchen counter to upload my data. When I looked down at the rug under my feet, there was a puddle on it. I had to laugh, but I'm sure this isn't any different than what you are all experiencing!

Tomorrow we leave for the beach. My in-laws have a vacation house on Isle of Palms, SC. I love this vacation because it's just nothing but relaxing and enjoying the company of family and time off work. I tend to run a lot when I am there. Typically, I am floored by the humidity, but this year I think it has been as bad here as it ever is there, so it shouldn't be much different. Plus, ocean breezes. We are taking the puppy, so I am excited to see how she does with the ocean. After my 13 miles this AM, I ran some last minute errands and stopped by at work to tie up some loose ends. Now I'm home and I just poured myself a glass of wine, so vacation has officially begun! I'm sure I will check in from time to time because, like I said, we just tend to sit around and chill. Hope you all have a good week!

    Still on schedule....
Question: does anyone follow a low carb diet and is able to run long distances without any issues? How low do you keep your carbs? And what about before or after a run?

@lporter229 - your vacation sounds wonderful!
@1TheQueenB - I try to keep my carbs and protein more in line with each other because I found a) I need the carbs to be high enough so I have enough energy for all of my activities and b) I need more protein to keep me from feeling ravenous (rungary) all the time. I try to eat a good mix of carbs and protein before and after I run but honestly it depends on the run and how I feel afterwards - sometimes after a long run all I want is ice cold chocolate milk or peanut butter and toast or even just a piece of string cheese. For me keeping the C/P/F ratio around 40/40/20 works well but it has taken me a while to figure out exactly what/where/how it works best for me.

I was looking at the map/obstacles for the mud run I have coming up, and I had a random thought. Do I count the 5k as part of my weekly total?

Looping at a possible/probable 42 mile week next week. runs wiil be 4-9-4-8-4-10+3.1 Wednesday is normally 6, but with Tuesday and thursday being longer than normal, I'm cutting it back a litle

Well, I've had a break from running, to make sure that my twinging ankle tendon would be ok. Got in 2 swims in the interim plus a lifting session. I should be super fresh for tomorrow morning's long run, which is definitely needed considering here in southern NY we're in the midst of an Excessive Heat Warning, with a forecasted high of 94 tomorrow, with heat index ranging from 100-105. I'm doing a group run, and we're planning on heading out at 7am, so conditions during that time should range from 79-84 (heat index 85-92), with humidity in the 75-85% range. Ugh. We will be along the Hudson River, so hopefully will have some air moving, and I'm loading up with water and my extra sodium shot bloks. Fingers crossed I'm posting back here tomorrow morning with a successful ~10 miler completed!

@shanaber, I don't know how you got that run in.............it must be sheer will power!

I love reading the thought processes everyone here goes through while running. I'm just beginning to do that, although I did it a lot when I first started running. I would challenge myself to make it to the next corner or the next sign or tree, then think of rewards I could give myself when I got home.

Today was my rest day but we had a big garage/warehouse sale in our backyard this morning and I just now got out of the pool after swimming for 40 minutes..........more relaxing than strenuous for me though. I consider it a little cross training I guess. Tomorrow I try for 3.5 miles...............peanuts to most of you but a challenge for me! ;)

@luluinca you'll do great tomorrow, and in no time you'll be one of those folks who looks at 3.5 miles as an easy run. Keep up the good work!

@kristinegift and all the other's from the deep south - I give all of you the Bronze Medal for slogging it out in the Humidity - Heat waves you have. I save the Gold Medal for our wounded warrior @Elise4270 and her constant support for all of us.

That's incredibly generous. Thank you. My Chinese astrological sign is a dog. I'm terribly loyal. Until I'm not.

You wouldn't think the North Eastern USA is hot humid and just down right nasty hot. Just this week my kids thought it be cool up there. My twins were born in Delaware. I told them I thought it was worse than the south. I liked Atlanta Georgia better than Delaware! Southern hospitality, sweet tea, and good cookin' makes that weather a bit easier to take!

And we went without a/c in Dallas Texas one summer. Admittedly, I was in the pool or at friends houses with a/c for much of it.

That's very strange. I wonder if quoting your post has the same effect.

The answer is "no". No message on my end.

Just looking at it, I had trouble with the greater than/less than signs. Might try using hyphens?

Wasn't planning on running today coming off yesterday's 20 miler, as I spent 2 hours on the bike and one hour in the pool, but a pair of Sketchers Go Run 5 Ride shoes arrived in the mail today, and I had to do a quick 2 mile run to test them out. They had the lowest heel-toe drop profile of any of my shoes (4mm), but had a nice wide toebox (necessary for me), weren't too snug in the heel, were super-cushioned in the middle for a "lightweight" pair, but a bit warm for Florida in the summer.

On the plus side as a $42 experiment (as I used the runners world shoe finder tool - then just bought the cheapest recommended pair from that list on amazon), I think they'll work out OK as I can bring them up north for now, or stick with them for treadmill running and shorter/speedwork days until the weather becomes less oppressively hot.

    8/2 - 11 miles (w. 2 at MP)
    8/3 - 4 miles (w. 2 miles near threshold HR)
    8/5 - 12 miles
    8/6 - 11 miles
    8/7 - 20 miles
    8/8 - 7 miles (w. 6 at MP)
    8/9 - 11.5 miles
    8/11 - 10 miles
    8/12 - 20 miles (last 5 at MP)
    8/13 - 2 miles (new shoe try-out)

    Total: 108.5 miles, 4 session with MP/threshold HR/speedwork running
Goal: 200 miles, 8 faster sessions
Remaining; 91.5 miles, 4 faster sessions

    2016 Race Schedule:
    Disney Marathon - Jan 6 - 3:29:09
    Gasparilla 15K - Feb 20 - 1:01:59
    Ironman 70.3 Florida - Apr 10 - 5:07:51
    Pittsburgh Marathon - May 1 - 3:08:25
    Ironman 70.3 Augusta - Sep 25
    Chicago Marathon - Oct 9
    Ironman Florida - Nov 5
    Rock 'n Roll Las Vegas 10K - Nov 13

@mobycarp - Congrads on the age group win and fast 5K PR in adverse weather. The last 5K I did a year ago was in similar icky conditions, and although my time was solid, I was surprised I could totally drench my shirt in that short of a race. I accompanied my ex to the Oak Tree Half about 4 years ago, and it looked like a beautiful (but hilly) course. Weather wasn't too ugly that day for her, but enjoy the race!
