Got to the park pretty early and ran for the first time in a long time without my dog. I was 35 seconds per mile faster without her but my HR was also a little higher since I was running a bit faster. Felt good though and since this was a new path I ran 12 laps to see how many miles and it was 3.3. This way once my 5K is over next weekend I'll be able to go to the park on Sundays and just keep adding a lap every week and be ready for my 10K by November.
Feeling more confident all the time!
08/04 – 1 mile
08/05 – 1 mile
08/06 – 3 miles

08/10 – 80 min Strength Training + 20 min Xtraining – Stairmaster and Stationary Bike (140 HR)
08/11 – 3.05 miles – AVG HR 143, lower on flat (lowest 127) higher on hills (highest 153)
08/12 – 1 mile – AVG HR 144 + 90 min strength training
08/13 – Rest Day
08/14 – 3.3 miles, 12 laps at park, HR average 154 & took 35 seconds off my mile time
For the first time this month I believe I can reach my goal!5 -

Did 8 miles slow yesterday then did a 10k course today. Was tough as the folk I run with are faster and I struggle to keep up ( they slow down enough to keep me with them whilst pushing me as much as they can). My time is the same as my previous 10k race (66mins) 10 weeks ago and has been last few Sunday's I have run with them. I am concerned that I am not getting faster despite adding intervals, track work and lots of extra miles. I know people expect to go faster in a race but I am done by the end of my Sunday 10ks - nothing left in the tank at all. Anyone any idea how much difference it would make to my pace if I weren't doing a 5-8 miles on a Saturday? Just trying to judge wether I need to change anything or can rely on being fresher on the day of a race as I will run less that week (I just want to be faster to feel improvement I not competing with anyone else).
@juliet3455 No! It was no fun, my feet were soaked (still to face de-mudding those shoes) and I am itchy from the bites and nettles. I will stick to roads until I am less of a wuss. Before the track became wild I did stop for a moment to take a picture of a branch that I thought looked like a duck or animal or something.......ok so my mind wanders.

I need to go back and read all the posts. Ran by myself today, Skip went to run with her Coach (Justyna). She didn't get a chance to run with her. Skip was saying Friday night her hamstring was sore, well she pulled it at practice Friday. She runs the entire summer with Justyna and one week back with her insane school Coach and she's hurt. Oh Lordie!

Got my 10 mile long run in this morning! Headed out at 7am and by the time I finished it was up to 85 degrees, with a heat index of 94, and 71% humidity. Had squishy, squelchy shoes by the end, lol. Went through 2 servings of shot bloks, 1 w/caffeine and 1 w/extra sodium since I knew I'd be sweating a ridiculous amount, and it def seemed helpful. Had my hydration belt on the run and a full water bottle that I froze overnight was sitting in my car for my return.

@katiejane83 we should have run together this morning we were running twins.2

7km Trail run with 2 ladies from our club. The tall grass was wet from the rain and I didn't have my Smart Wool socks so the feet were wet for the whole run. I find that the extra length of the Smart Wool socks transports moisture from inside the shoe to the material above the shoe better than my other Sport socks where it evaporates = Drier feet.

Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a great weekend.
Yesterday I had my long walk. Decided to take it out to 10 miles this time. HOLY CRAP. I'm used to 8-milers but had never done a 10. Those last two miles were brutal, but I made it. I also ran one of those 10 miles, to technically I only walked 9. On the bright side, I got to see a part of the Prairie Path I'd never seen before, so that was nice. I also had to dodge a few geese. They were literally walking right in front of me... I was like, dude, move out of the way.
Today I wasn't sure how far I'd be able to run since I more or less killed my legs yesterday. But to my surprise, I was able to do an easy 3 miles. The temp was around 85 degrees, not too humid but the sun was super bright so I kept to the shaded residential areas.
Tomorrow it's back to the hamster wheel... er, treadmill.

Very nice hydration pack @Orphia ! I expect a full review. I'm interested in getting one suitable for running.
I think I'll be able to walk wo crutches by my next visit the 24th. So thank Hercules. (He's above my house directly, can not be by mistake. The constellation, in case you were puzzled). No he's mine. He can not, will not be over your house too. ya, I'm feeling a bit better. Herc is mine. Don't forget that.

Overview:
Another day of cross training instead of running. Except my planned bike ride got cut quite a bit short due to bike problems, so I guess I'll try again tomorrow! Leg is definitely on the mend, but not quite up to running yet; I tried a quick jog down the hallway and it didn't feel so good I'm really hoping tuesday or wednesday I will be back to running! I'm missing it like crazy, plus now I'm starting to feel really nervous about my ability to complete a marathon given this time off and how slow I'll most likely have to take things when I start running again.
Upcoming races:
8/07: Chicago 10K 51:59 - not my best by a long shot but I'll take it

Currently watching the women's 1500m preliminaries and wondering why they run in a tight little pack like that. I would be FREAKING OUT. Give me space!3

I tend to run a lot when I am there. Typically, I am floored by the humidity, but this year I think it has been as bad here as it ever is there, so it shouldn't be much different. Plus, ocean breezes.
I just like knowing that the asphalt isn't likely to shift under my nearly-200# weight landing on it....1 -
@RespectTheKitty I'm watching it too. Would be better if Stan'd hurry up with that ruffied chicken (roofied if you watched the Hangover).1

I could go for some fried chicken. Wait, no... I'm a vegetarian. How about fried tofu?2

Also, as part of racing strategy, you wanna keep up with the lead pacer.

Oh, that makes sense.
I'd still be freaking out. That's why I'm not an Olympic runner.2 -
