Unexpected results of weight loss

I know it's a common theme, but it's unexpected how many more strangers smile and make small talk with me. I'm pretty sure it's not the strangers who have changed, but I think I project more confidence and smile more.12

Going into a clothing store and realizing that I have more options available to me. Almost out of the Big girl clothes and can now look in the XL section of regular clothing stores.22

There is one thing that is less fun, as a li'l ol' lady, compared with when I was an obese ol' lady:
New young'uns in my exercise classes used to seriously under-estimate me, and it could be pretty darn fun to defy their expectations. I'd been active for over a decade, while remaining fat, so I was decently strong, with pretty good cardiovascular capacity - a sometime competitive masters rower. Nowadays, it's noticeably harder to surprise the kids, let alone - potentially, occasionally - dismay them when they can't keep up. Now I look like someone who just might be fit, despite being gray-headed.34 -

I am sure you still inspire them. I am not young by any means, but I have some ladies in my classes that are 60+ that can make everyone look bad. I want to be just like them
I kinda like when people underestimate me though too. It's fun to see the reaction.12 -

You can still inspire them and show them what's possible if they continue to live an active life.

I love this thread! People are awesome on here! I'm so happy for everyone and I guess I better prep to be cold this winter!
•I don't have constant headaches anymore. In fact, only one in 3 months. I don't know if I was snoring and it gave me a headache or if it was from eating fast food and processed foods. Whatever, I'm free of the headaches!
•I enjoy taking the stairs and parking farther away.
•I am working toward making myself healthier on the inside and know it IS possible and it isn't the hardest thing I will ever do.
•I saw a muscle in my thigh today-thought it was a shadow. It's not super defined and there's cellulite but I checked back in the mirror twice-it's a muscle. I'm kind of in shock.24 -

(some good stuff snipped, for length)
One of my "unexpected results" is that I haven't been cold.
The only other time in my life I was fairly thin was shortly after I went to college (became much more active than in high school), and I was cold all the time, even in summer, after losing weight. So I expected it again this time, especially with so many others reporting it.
Nope. Why? No clue, but it hasn't happened, and I'm back at that college weight (also a surprise! ).8 -
That moment when you're standing up and look down at your feet and can't see your stomach. Awesome moment.27

72 lbs down, 68 to go!
That I'd be okay with my rate of weight loss slowing down.
For a long time I was so impatient. I wanted to lose weight NOW and reach my goal ASAP. I felt like results were SOOOO slow and the days were crawling.
Now that my weight loss is noticeable to everyone (and everyone feels it's their business to comment ) I realize how fast the time really went. I lost almost 30 lbs just this spring and summer (I actually just had to re-check that number- did I really lose that much?!)
I started to freak out a little bit about how much changed in such a short period of time, even though it felt like it was taking AGES. I've gotten to the point where smaller amounts of weight loss are going to noticeable, so I'm content taking it a little bit slower now.28 -

80 down....10 to go.
Not only can I now breath and tie my shoes at the same time..I can even TALK and tie my shoes at the same time! LOL26 -
One unexpected result for me was... my chin dimple came back. I hadn't even realized it was gone, to be honest. Then, I saw a dark spot on my chin. I thought it was dust and went to brush it away, only to feel the dent. ^_^ It's like seeing an old friend. I missed my little dimple.27

A couple of months ago I face planted when I got up from the couch. I used a little too much force standing up and the momentum just kept me going forward until I was face down on the ottoman. My husband laughed so hard he cried.
This made me chuckle so much - the thought of losing weight to the point of having to change the way I rise from a seat. This actually made add my first "two cents" to the message board.
On another note, I am only a few weeks into my journey and these messages have been so inspirational. I greatly look forward to all these changes.
Inspiring!13 -
It's really really strange to go to the gym and be one of the "skinnier" girls and not always "the fat girl"... Whaaaat!17

Lack of thigh rub was a huge one for me. I actually like wearing dresses now. LOL!
Another is how much I'm freezing all the darn time.
And how much I love physical exercise
And how incredibly grumpy I get if I don't get my exercise in.
And for the TMI - I have endometriosis. The pain during my periods was insane, but now that I'm normal weight, the pain is gone.
Snap snap snap. If only the doctors would really strictly say "lose weight and we won't need to be seeing you", rather than skirting round the issue as they do. However I blame no one but myself for the state I got in. It's fabulous to read another endo sufferer is managing it with weight
Lol my doctor never skirted around the issue after I stopped competing and training all together in ballooned to 240lbs at 5' 7" lmfao. My doctor just looked at me and said "look you have to lose weight or you're going to have some major health issues." So 5 months later I'm at 175 lbs and still going :-)

On another forum I'm a member of, I wrote that when I went to visit my doctor and told him I was planning to lose weight and get in shape his response was a fairly apathetic 'Sounds good.'
We had a good laugh because doctors hear that so often and then it never happens. I said, 'Let's freak out some doctors!'
They said that should be our official motto. So long as we stick to it, there will be some raised eyebrows and happy smiles in GP offices all over the world!15 -

I hadn't seen my doctor since before I decided to lose weight, so she didn't know. When I went for my physical last month we talked about it - she congratulated me on my loss so far and said that she had very few women in her practice "who could decide to lose weight and then actually do it". That made me feel pretty good about my efforts!19 -

I started losing weight before going in for an annual physical and I was down 19# from the year before. I think she had told me to lose weight for the past 10 years and I said I would, so when she looked at my weight, she got a real concerned look on her face and asked me if I was trying to lose weight. When I said yes, she was relieved...she was worried there was some underlying issue. The next visit was a huge difference in weight - maybe 75# and she was so proud of me. This makes going to the doctor so much less stressful21 -
Your doctor having no idea what to do with you. I fit nicely into the "overweight" category for BMI and flat-out told him it doesn't apply because I'm stronger than I was two years ago at "normal" weight and carry a lot more muscle mass.
He thinks I'm slightly crazy to try to keep lifting MORE weight as I chase my new personal records as I approach the age of fifty.14 -

I came up with my goal weight with my trainer and then I was at the doctor and she asked me what my goal weight was, she calculated a higher number for me and told me that the BMI #s were not always right. I do love my doctor10 -
brightsideofpink wrote: »I am looking forward to some of these posted here, especially the thigh rub, lol. I've lost 50+ but still have the flabby thighs.
Things that have stood out to me:
Being able to cross my legs comfortably. I used to only be able to cross at the ankles.
Being able to paint my toenails and see what I'm doing! No more clown feet.
My shoes are all too small. I didn't realize I was overcompensating for width with larger shoe sizes. I blamed bigger feet on pregnancies; they say its a thing. But with weight loss, my 8.5s are now nearly a full size too big.
Not dreading school field trips for fear of embarrassing my elementary school child.
Speaking of schools, being able to sit in those tiny little chairs that are like 6 inchess off the ground during parent teacher conferences. Have you done that? Awkward isn't it? Lol.
That inspired me to try and cross my legs, i had gotten out of the habit because my thighs wouldnt let me really... I CAN DO IT NOW! lmao24 -

SueSueDio, I will check it out, thanks. I love this thread, too. It has taken me a full three days to get through (I haven't finished yet) *Binge Boarding* haha5 -
Unhappy result: migraines. For some reason when I'm at a healthy weight I get migraines way easier. Totally jealous of those who say theirs got better or went away!2

I went home for a few weeks this summer and it had been a year since I was last there. Over that year I'd lost 100lbs. Many people didn't recognize me -- my old boss whom I worked with closely, people I saw every day. I was a bizarre feeling, and left me wondering if all anyone ever saw was my weight.27
