@kristinegift I took Skip to the physio therapist on Friday and we talked about her hamstring. He said it'd hard when you are injured not to feel that injury even after you are better. Sometimes the mind remembers more than the actual injury does. Skip missed her first meet and looks like she'll miss her second because of the hamstring.
@ddmom0811 nice job in goal!
@adrianchr92 super job on 7th place AG
@katharmonic sorry about your baby, I know how hard it is to lose a furbaby. I changed my profile pix in honor of your loss. Hugs.
@skippygirlsmom Sometimes I wonder if my injuries are actually better that I think, but I focus on them so much that I think the issue back into existence so that I can take breaks But I think the mind definitely remembers it longer than the body does. I'm always hyperfocused on it because I'm paranoid about re-injury. Hope Skip is back at it and competing soon!2 -

Thanks, @shanaber. I will find out more about the zombie run app. Games definitely helps a little, a few weeks ago, they would go out because of the Pokemon Go game. It was definitely easier when more of their friends were going. They would sort of race each other or just chasing each other. It was more fun then.
BTW, @shanaber, I think I saw that one of your upcoming race would be the San Diego Holiday Half. Have you done it before? My husband and I are thinking about registering for that race but he said it might not be very pleasant running next to the highway. But I thought it shouldn't be too bad early Sunday morning. If you did that before, can you share your experience of that race? Thank you once again!2 -

@kristinegift exactly what he was saying, the mind is still afraid of being hurt again.0 -
End of month question?
1. Who was your most inspirational/helpful/model runner this month? (Not me, I did no running )
Even though I didn't run, Sister Madonna Buder (The Iron Nun) is my new hero. So much that I went to Catholic Mass today.5 -
Hey all, I'm a new runner. Is this group suitable for newbies? If so, how do I join?3

Yes, you are in the right place! The first post, first page explains the guidelines. You post here, we consider you one of us. You just joined.
Post your August miles and goals here. Then don't wonder off, there's a new month and a new thread coming.0 -

Nice question! xx
Mine would have to be my fellow Run Director, Phillip, for his job helping the parkrunner with the brain bleed on Saturday, giving me a lift home, keeping us updated on the runner's progress, and his support. He comes to parkrun with his lovely wife and daughter, and is a policeman, and just really impresses me by his life works.1 -

Just one loop of our coffee group run today. Gotta get home to shower before my housemates so I can leave for work early and then leave work early enough that I can get around to a few places before all the 4:30/5 pm businesses close. A girl's got errands to run!

Sleep won this morning. I still feel exhausted from the weekend. Maybe the long run and bike ride was too much for some reason. Although, I feel like a lot of weekends I do more than that. Could just be the weather/exhausting start to school year.

There was a thunderstorm at 0500 when my alarm went off for my 4 miler this morning. Took that as a sign to sleep in. Bringing my shoes/shorts/stuff to work today, There's a park about a mile from work with a nice mile long figure 8 loop that I can go run 4 times if I am feeling super motivated after work....only a half day today though.0

Did a hike with a friend on Saturday (I posted pics to the thread already), it was a beautiful day, but that elevation was a killer (400 metres)).
Yesterday was my rest day, but I felt like I had ants in my pants, so I did some yoga and I felt better afterwards.
This morning's run was a suckfest. The weather was cooperating, but 75% of the run just plain hurt. By the end, I started to feel good-ish. I hope tomorrow's will be better.
I may not get my goal done in the next two days (need to accomplish 26.59 kms), but I'll do my best nonetheless.
Have a great Monday peeps!!!2 -
8/1 - Intended to run 4, but oversleeping and a thunderstorm kept it from happening :-(
8/2 - Bodypump class, followed by Abs/Core class. I may be too uncoordinated for this ab stuff...I feel like a bull in a china shop for sure.
8/3 - 4.11 miles. Cool but foggy/sticky. Felt like running through a shower.
8/4 - 5 miles on treadmill (Trek class). The Y was so humid, kinda felt like I was outside anyway.
8/5 - Bodypump class.
8/6 - 6.33 miles with HM training group.
8/7 - Rest Day.
8/8 - 4.25 miles. Felt good!
8/9 - Unplanned rest day. Some annoying back pain kept me awake all night, so I "overslept" without actually getting any sleep.
8/10 - 4.3 miles in 75°, 90% humidity...plus, owl.
8/11 - 4.95 miles on treadmill (Trek class). Then, some quick upper body weights. Again, humid.
8/12 - Spin Class...not sure I have ever sweat that much in my life
8/13 - 6 mile group run with HM training group. Nice pace, cooler temp.
8/14 - Rest / housework day. Ended day with an unnecessary trip to the ER for my 10 year old. Even Moms that are Pediatric nurses overreact once in a while
8/15 - Slept in due to that ER visit.
8/16 - Bodypump class, followed by Abs/Core class.
8/17 - 5.04 miles. Started in a pleasant, light rain...ended in humidity.
8/18 - 4.27 miles. Weather was OK, but felt like a slog. Just one of those days, I guess
8/19 - Spin Class, followed by upper body weights.
8/20 - 6.22 miles. Group run. Light rain at start, pretty cool temperature. Loved it!
8/21 - Yard work / house work / rest day.
8/22 - 4.0 miles. Cool, comfortable morning.
8/23 - Bodypump class, followed by Abs/Core class (still feel clumsy)
8/24 - Unplanned rest day...woke up with back pain / spasms that got worse as the day went. Yuck!
8/25 - 5 miles in cool but humid weather. Back feels tender/weak, but no pain. Wonder if I did something wrong in my abs/core class on Tuesday morning.
8/26 - Spin class, then upper body weights. If sweating gets rid of toxins, I should be clean as a whistle.
8/27 - 7.5 miles. Group run. Flat and relatively speedy.
8/28 - Rest day at amusement park.
8/29 - 3.41 miles, then a short walk. Cut run short due to "gastrointestinal distress"...felt like I was going to hurl, not sure why. Feel fine now.

Good morning everyone! Happy Monday!
Yesterday was a decent run. It was in the low to mid 80s and a bit humid, so I wasn't sure how much I'd be able to run. But I did the same plan as the previous week where I added in half-mile walk breaks as needed, and it worked out well. I surprised myself with how much I was able to keep going when I thought I couldn't do any more. I got a good idea of what it's like to run when you feel like you don't have any more in the tank. (Surprisingly, I did have more in the tank.) All in, I ran 5 miles and walked 3.4. My legs were very sore afterward, even more sore than the previous week.
Today I *almost* didn't go to the gym. I was ready to go back to bed but something made me feel guilty about not going to the gym before work, so I went. I planned on just walking on the treadmill, but I wound up running 1.5 miles of it. The rest of the walking was on an incline of 2-4%. I think that doing inclines on the treadmill is really helping me in my outdoor running because I noticed yesterday that the hills were easier to run, as long as I adjusted my pace a wee bit. Even that big ol' stinky hill right before the 83 overpass didn't feel so bad yesterday. Hooray for improvement!

Well it's the final week of my C25K program, those 8 weeks flew right by! I've also managed to reach my goal for August, yet I don't feel sore or worn out (yet!). Still, I've got to run that 5K first and see how I feel. I've signed up to my local Parkrun in Valentines Park which will be the first time I'll be running with other people, quite a popular one as well with over 150 runners every week so it should be good fun!

Question:
I see a lot on here about Parkrun. Can someone enlighten me as to what that is?0 -
Ok, on a computer instead of my phone, so I can easily calculate/see mileage for the month. Strava says I have 48.5 miles so far, so I'm going with that. Goal was 40 miles for the month. So...I have officially exceeded my goal for the first time in the history of this challenge, and with three more runs still on the schedule! Granted, this is my lowest goal ever, but still exciting...
Not sure what to go with next month. Leaning toward maybe 75 miles, now that I'm pretty much back in full swing. That will give me plenty of leeway to play with my schedule and take any needed breaks/extra rest days, but should still be relatively challenging for me as I continue to recover and rebuild.5 -
Yesterday's run. Notes to self: Really, really, really make sure you're good at getting enough sleep, and fueling enough/properly before a long run. This run felt miserable. After the first 9 miles I felt like I was out of gas. I finished the last 3 w/out stopping or walking through mental grit and extreme stubbornness, lol. And, I did still manage to hit 12 miles (added on from 11 miles the previous Sunday). But holy hell was it craptastic, lol.
September's goal will be to maintain that 12 mile distance, make sure I can do it on some routes with rolling hills (simulate the Adirondacks Half at the end of the month), continue to build the rest of my weekly mileage (I know it's a no no, but right now my long run is about 50% of my weekly mileage, ugh), and then taper properly before my half.
And yay, I am officially over my August goal! By the actual end of August I should have racked up 87 miles for the month.
5 -
8/27 - 8.5 Miles
61.5 miles done with goal of 703 -
@ceciliaslater Congratulations on exceeding your goal! It's been a long road to recover, and you are so much more collected about it than I am.End of month question?
1. Who was your most inspirational/helpful/model runner this month?
+1 to @ceciliaslater for offering hope and inspiration to this challenge. Thank you.
Edit- and the rest of you for putting up wit me.2
