@MobyCarp -Congrats on the retirement. So excited for you, and admittedly, maybe a little bit jealous as well! Good luck to you. Now think of all the running you can do! And speaking of jealous, Holy Smokes @_nikkiwolf_ that is one amazing run! @instantmartian -That looks like a pretty amazing run as well!

I did part one of a daily double this morning. I wasn't going to update until I finished part 2, but I hit goal, so I figured, what the heck. My first mile this morning was with the puppy and I tried the hands-free leash for the first time. I was very surprised that I liked it. I was afraid she could pull me too hard and might drag me over, but it's pretty apparent that's not going to happen. Still had a lot of sniff stops, but we managed. After time spent messing with the leash and dealing with her sniff habits, I ran out of time to get in the 5 miles I wanted. Ended with 3.7. I have a 72 minute run with 4 ten minute cruise intervals on the schedule for this evening. That is likely to pan out somewhere between 8 and 9 miles. I am thinking that I will probably end up just shy of 200 miles for the month. I have not had a 200 mile month since last September. Hmmm. I may have to do a little re-planning for tomorrow...

@greenolivetree Yes I know my ticker is behind. My work blocks the ticker site so it's a pain to update unless I am home. I can do it from my phone but not always convenient as cell service is not that all great here too.

@RespectTheKitty No September yet. I should get a move on it, huh? I will probably do it this afternoon.

Trying to just add distance and some hills for now. Hopefully speed will eventually catch up. Did an out and back on the horse trails with my dog. It has a hill at the halfway point and for the first time I was able to actually run up it.....YAY! Kept my HR fairly moderate and just tried to keep a steady pace.

    08/04 – 1 mile
    08/05 – 1 mile
    08/06 – 3 miles
    08/09 – 1.3 miles – HR 135-140 HR running flat surface………154 running hills

08/11 – 3.05 miles – AVG HR 143, lower on flat (lowest 127) higher on hills (highest 153)
    08/12 – 1 mile – AVG HR 144 + 90 min strength training
    08/13 – Rest Day
08/14 – 3.3 miles, 12 laps at park, HR average 155 & took 35 seconds off my mile time
    08/15 – 1 mile - 85 min Strength Training
    08/16 – 2 miles – Easy Pace AVG HR 132

Here's a photo I took around mile 7 of my run.

I thought that was taken in Europe! Beautiful!
I didn't know there was an Ocean City, NJ. I've been to Ocean City, MD many times. Probably every state has one.
Have a great trip to the UK!

@luluinca -Congrats on tackling that hill! Is that your doggie in the profile picture? So cute! What kind of dog is it? Her/his face looks similar to my dog's. We are still trying to figure out what her mix is. We think fox hound/boxer.

    Hi all,

I've been lurking all month but dipped out of posting until now because I've been doing so SO badly at running and generally looking after myself. I have plenty of excuses but no-one needs to hear those, even I know they are BS. Unfortunately, now that I had finally gotten back on track (I ran my highest weekly milage in 3 months last week and ran 5 times in a week for the first ever time) I actually can't run because I'm so ill I haven't managed to get out of bed for longer than half an hour for 2 days, let alone do anything else. Serves me right for not running when I could have, because now I actually can't I am desperate to get out there! Typical, isn't it? I have, of course, spent a good few hours today looking for races I want to do, and signed up for one towards the end of the year in the hope that it keeps me motivated. It was only £18 too, a bargain! Most HMs in the UK are nearly twice that.

Anyway, this is my awful mileage for the month, which is embarrassing but that's why I'm posting it. Goodness only knows how badly my HM will go in 3 weeks with this lot of turd behind me :flushed:

    1st-6th - Holiday
    7th - 5.22 miles
    9th - 3.06 miles
    12th - 6.51 miles
    14th - 8.10 miles
    16th - 3.25 miles
    20th - 3.12 miles
    22nd - 3.17 miles
    23rd - 3.79 miles
    24th - 3.79 miles
    27th - 3.50 miles
    28th - 7.03 miles
    29th-31st - tonsillitis

    MTD - 50.54 miles

    Upcoming races:
18th Sept - Run Reigate Half Marathon
2nd Oct - Tonbridge Half Marathon
30th Oct - River Thames Half Marathon
17th Dec - Lee Valley VeloPark Half Marathon
    9th April 2017 - Brighton Marathon

Now to go back through and reply to some of your posts :)

@lporter229, yes that's her, Penny Lane. She's about 5.5 years old and we adopted her from the animal shelter as a pup. We don't really know what she is either but the vet said some Boxer for sure. Maybe a little Pitt and possibly some Rhodesian. She's literally a little powerhouse (medium sized one actually).........the strongest, most athletic dog we've ever had but sweet as pie too. She likes to come in and give us good night kisses before she goes to bed for the night. <3

    She's a great running companion!

Thanks on the hill........it's been annoying me for awhile! :p

Is there a September running challenge up yet? @Stoshew71

@respectthekitty is ready to get going on September!!!
@luluinca anyone who names their dog Penny Lane is the bomb!
@honunui you all have been having your share of storms this year, be safe
@shanaber thank you, she amazes me sometimes. I hope the heel is still improving.
    @dkabambe awesome long run!
@instantmartian what are you doing in the great state of NJ? I love Ocean City. I'll be home in NJ in 2 weeks and I can't wait!!! I'm trying to figure how to cram 3 weeks of stuff to do into 3 days.

@katharmonic So sorry to hear about your dog, losing a pet is like losing one of the family. I hope you’re doing ok and getting used to the quiet.

@dowelahmed Congrats on completing the C25K!

@Elise4270 I would say Mo Farah was a big inspiration this month. Being from the UK, he is a HUGE celebrity here and everyone loves him anyway, but that moment where he fell over in the 10km and then won anyway? That was awesome, and although he looked so cool and calm about it he nearly came to pieces in his post-race interview with the BBC, which showed how much it actually rattled him. But I agree with @mom3over40, the two athletes who helped each other up in the womens 5km was also a really inspirational moment. It just shows how awesome runners are.

@Orphia Well done for smashing your goal, twice! That’s awesome.

@RespectTheKitty I can see this has been answered already, but yeah, Parkruns are HUGE in the UK. There are 10 within 10 miles of my house and most get upwards of 200 runners each week. It’s all free, all they ask is that you volunteer at least once a year instead of running to help keep it running.

@shanaber I hope your heel recovers soon!

@MobyCarp Congratulations on retirement! Enjoy it, you’ve definitely earned it :)

@instantmartian That looks like a gorgeous run! Have a great time in Europe, especially London!

Today was a hill repeat kind of day. It's currently 90 degrees and sunny (heat index of 99F--that's 32C, heat index of 37C for all you non-Americans out there). I decided to do my repeats at a place called "Crybaby Hill" today. It's part of the Tulsa Tough course (a local bike race) and is notorious for being both difficult and rowdy. Technically, the hill is an L-shape, where you run up a very steep incline, then make a right turn and continue up a slightly less severe grade. If you do the entire thing, it's about 1/8th of a mile. For today, I only did the first (very steep) section (a little over half the total distance, I'd guess), so it was a little shorter than my normal hills, but significantly steeper, so still a very good workout. I was definitely out of gas by the 7th and final trip up the hill, so I'm glad I didn't attempt to do the full distance for each repeat. I lumbered my way back to the tower when I was finished (a little over a mile each way for W/U and C/D).

Total distance was 3.5 miles. 55 miles of 40 mile goal completed this month!

ETA: I took a couple of pictures from the top of my hill (well, the top of the section I ran the repeats on), looking down toward the river, and added them to my Strava account: See them here.

@ceciliaslater Awesome run with the hill repeats! That's one thing I've really missed the past month. I really don't know how you run in the heat but more power to ya! I went for a WALK 2 Fridays ago around noon with sunny 80's and heat index around 90 and I was miserable :-D I also got badly sunburned :( I didn't even think how I'd been doing all my exercise at 6am and was suddenly out at noon.

@louubelle16 Welcome back ;) Your mileage isn't THAT terrible! But I know you wish you'd done more with a HM coming up.

Okay, now I have the song Penny Lane in my head.....

    Today's run.

    fup1uvrzr53b.jpg

Currently at 84.4 miles for the month, with a goal of 75. After tomorrow I should actually end up just a couple miles shy of 90! Yay! But also, a good reminder to myself to keep on tracking so I don't overdo it and increase my mileage too quickly.
