Dude finally ate a banana
Options
There's a guy at my work that drinks a liter of [pick any soda] or 2 Monsters, every day. I only see him eat donuts or other things from a convenience store and if he goes out to lunch he always comes back with something from a fast food place. I'm actually concerned because I know he's a smart dude. That way of eating, every single day can't be good for him. Also, I'm not going to say anything to him about it.
But today dude finally ate a banana.

My ex husband went to McDonalds every day for lunch. It was ok because he'd blot the burger patty so that made it lower fat. Of course he did get his fries double fried so they were extra crispy but ya he made the actual burger healthy17

But did he like the banana?6

My husband is the same way. Junk all the time and then randomly will have something okay for him. The pressure at home is real.5 -
My husband sneaks junk food, then complains he is not losing weight. I go look in his car and find the wrappers and I say THIS IS WHY YOU ARE NOT LOSING. He eats the healthy food I make and then he eats like 2 extra meals worth of calories in sugar and grease.... Start tracking, I say. Too much work, he says. Then stop eating junk, I say.... Argh I am getting really frustrated. Dragging him to the gym again today.17

Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't
A) care about what my coworkers ate
B ) invest any amount of time to even notice any kind of eating habit/pattern
C) rationalize how anything other people ate was any of my businesses.
I may be alone in this line of thinking, but this wouldn't be the first time.86 -
@gothchiq That's when I say "Then STFU or do something about it." I understand your frustration, but it's obvious he isn't ready for weight loss.5

I would be indifferent if his blood sugar weren't going up. X( At least I can get him to work out. It's better than nothing.2

It's only going to change when HE cares about his blood sugar. Talk to him about it, bring the science, get him to understand why it is such a concern. And logging can be tedious or simple, depends on your outlook. If it's too big a big task for him, maybe you can help him log in the beginning to show him that it's not terrible. For me, I didn't realize how much I was taking in until I began logging. Glad you can get him working out, mine finally wants to go for a nightly walk, hasn't happened yet, but he's getting closer.7

I worked with a guy once at my university who was morbidly obese, and would come in to work every single day with Big Gulps of Mountain Dew, burritos and stuff from the case at 7-Eleven, etc., etc. Smoked regularly to boot. We worked on the second floor of a small building, that had no elevator and he had trouble making it up the few stairs. I found out later he had two young daughters. I was so scared for him! But didn't know him well enough to be like, "dude... woah, this is so bad for you, and what about your girls?" He only worked for us for a few months, and we rarely talked. He did go on a "diet" at one point, but it consisted of things like not drinking soda in the morning... and getting two 24oz frappes with whip cream instead. He also brought in a banana once, but it was left sitting on his desk for over week, and then I am assuming the janitors took it away.5

I hope he went banana to mouth. And that you didn't make eye contact with him while he was eating it.
Never go mouth to banana.19 -

There's a lot of people that feel the same way I am sure. Their way of expressing it is by backing out of the thread without replying rather than climbing on a high horse as you've chosen to do.69 -

If you're truly concerned for his health, then you would say something to him about it. Talk to him, it doesn't have to be about his diet. Get to know the guy on a more intimate level than just what he eats, having a friend can make a world of difference.5 -

Neither do I, but this is something I can't help but notice. A liter of soda every day, not always diet and pecan cinnamon swirls. That's it. Oh, and he smokes.4 -

He ate it like he was doing something wrong.7 -

Stay on him. It's very important. I have similar concerns for myself. (even if this isn't the case) Ask him if he wants to get a 2nd job to pay for all the medicine he will have to take, and surgeries.
