Unexpected results of weight loss

One unexpected result for me was rediscovering how much I actually loved skiing. I had been talking the talk about loving skiing for the last 6 years or so but truthfully as I gained weight I found that my boots were incredibly painful, I needed frequent rests on the way down the slope to give my feet and joints a break, plus I took several long breaks in the cafe each day of skiing too. With 20kg lost (another 10 to go!) I just had the most joyful time skiing. I was grinning the whole time. My boots no longer have the nickname of "devil boots", I could ski much harder and faster and in more complex terrain without stopping, and I only had one lunch break each day. According to my stats, I was skiing also double the vertical meters each day as I had the previous season. And I loved every second of it.
It made me realise how much I hadn't been enjoying it in previous seasons, but was just continuing on because I had memories of liking it as a kid/teenager. So thanks to my weight loss and improved fitness, I've recaptured my passion for skiing!35 -
I haven't skiied in several years. I have never been as light as adult as I am now and I'm looking forward to skiing again this winter. I enjoyed reading your post because it is how I feel about skiing.9

Has anyone else noticed less wear on clothing and other things? My shoes last longer and wear down slower, my clothing no longer "balls" up in my arm pits and inner thighs.18

Tapwaters, yes! I'm still "mid-transition" but I have noticed my clothes and shoes do last longer. As for the topic of the thread....tying your shoes without gasping for air! Its wonderful.7

I don't fear bending down or crouching anymore and accidentally tearing my pants. Happened more than once before including in professional situations.13

I agree with the brain not catching up thing. I look at myself and sometimes I somehow think I have lost no weight and the scale has somehow lied for about 58 pounds. XD
I'm the same with the knees thing, and my collar bone. Sometimes I sit here and I'm touching my collar bone and realizing what my body is supposed to look like and has never looked that way before my entire life (I've ALWAYS been chubby).
Right?! I feel this way too all the time! I weighed in at 39 lbs. lost this morning and I thought that maybe the scale was just off. But then I had to snap myself out of it. I've been busting my *kitten* for almost four months, so I'm pretty sure the scale cant be wrong for four months! Ha ha, I thought I was the only one who had these crazy thoughts, but then again it would be silly to assume that.
Way to go everyone for your healthfulness! Super inspiring!

woahh I came in here to mention the collar bone thing! I thought I was the only one who did the collar bone thing but the collar bone thing seems to be a thing.
Honestly, running your fingers over its contours is some of the best entertainment weight loss has to offer.27 -
So many new bones ! Lol my husband keeps laughing and telling me I've always had them but it's like the first time I've noticed them my collar bones and hip bones and ribs and I'm still obese for about seven more pounds ! Can't wait to see how many more I have hiding under all this !21

Wait til the hip bones pop out - freaky stuff! Oh and the RIBS! Who knew?!! And that funky lump by your sternum (the one, when I first felt it, freaked me out because I thought I had a huge tumor, to which my husband just laughed). Bones are so cool!!

Lack of thigh rub was a huge one for me. I actually like wearing dresses now. LOL!
Another is how much I'm freezing all the darn time.
And how much I love physical exercise
And how incredibly grumpy I get if I don't get my exercise in.
And for the TMI - I have endometriosis. The pain during my periods was insane, but now that I'm normal weight, the pain is gone.
Snap snap snap. If only the doctors would really strictly say "lose weight and we won't need to be seeing you", rather than skirting round the issue as they do. However I blame no one but myself for the state I got in. It's fabulous to read another endo sufferer is managing it with weight
I had severe endo when I was younger, and slim. There were other slim people in my support group so I don't think it is a direct effect, as it is with pco or other issues.3 -

omg yes! I call that sternum thing 'the button', if I depress it hard enough I'm sure I'll transform into a lorry.15 -

1. My brain sees the old me in the mirror
2. Crossing my legs
3. My hubby picked me up and carried me and he didn't seem to have pulled a back muscle.
4. Collar Bones/Turkey Neck
5. Clothes shopping in my old clothes
I met up with my husbands high school friends for the first time.. I didn't realize how very happy it made me that he was so proud to have me on his arm and to introduce me to his friends. He would have been proud of me know matter what my size, but it's just different. He was really proud and that made me really happy.

I'm only about halfway to my goal but just the feeling of being light when I walk or run feels so good!14

Definitely! The inner thighs of my pants would always wear prematurely and I would need to get new ones at least once a year. My latest pairs are both more than a year old12 -
Realizing I could actually feel my cheek bones while washing my face in the shower after just 19lbs lost. Can't wait to find out what other bones reappear as the next 40 come off. Wow.6

that in pictures I have cheekbones that can cut glass now LOL!6

amazing thing . . . losing even 5 to 10 pounds can transform a bike commute.
i never really believe how something so simple can be the truth. i keep having to convince my own brain by saying 'you KNOW what it's like when there's a gallon of milk in your pannier.' but i still find it hard to take in that if i lose 8 pounds, that's how much less me there is on the bike.10 -
I love my weight loss but I hate how it has wrinkled my face9

I just noticed this on me over the weekend! I've only lost about 35 lbs from my heaviest weight, so it is going to get worse. I went away for a weekend trip and the light in the hotel bathroom was brighter and coming from different angles than at home. I saw the beginnings of a turkey neck under my chin - OMG. How did that happen? What else am I not seeing at home? AAAGGGGHHHH!!!!3 -
I never considered how much my ring size would change. I got sized this weekend and I went from an 8 to a 6.5! Another pleasant surprise-- I was able to try on the display rings!4

I know, right?!? What kind of justice is this? Lose a pants size, gain a neck wattle? *sighs*
I guess I will take the wattle over the waddle...

I am finding sagging skin fat under my arms on my torso.. ugh... and a beginning of a belly "apron" half way down to my goal and have lost about 40 since January 1 of this year. 1 pound per week...slow and steady I go down.7
-
I am finding i can cross my legs sitting on a chair easily without using my hands to squeeze that leg over. Its actually a really comfy pisition to sit now9

About the sagging skin: Before you wail & gnash your teeth, give it some time. I'm 60 years old and I've seen a great deal of improvement even in just the first 6-8 months of maintenance. Keep working out and have patience: It csn improve!48

^^^ jowly cheeks. BUT i have a much smaller bum.6

Also weight lifting helps tremendously with loose skin. Drink lots of water, keep your skin well hydrated, and beef up those muscles!12 -
I have been doing a lot of running to help stay trim. I hadn't kept track of hearts rates really. Went to donate blood yesterday and was told I had a resting heart rate of 39 bpm. They had to double check but said it checks out14
