The BMI charts are fine for the vast majority of people. There are always exceptions and individuals may vary, but 165 at 5'3" is still a pretty high weight. If you are happy there and your doc is happy with your health markers, then great.1 -

Im just pissed off at the person saying 160 is "settling" Thats just so unnecessarily judgemental let the person be happy with their own goals was zero need to judge it like that and put her down for what she wants with her own body.7 -

"Settling" is a rude way of putting it. But at 5'3" 160 is a few pounds from obesity if you follow BMI charts. Under 140 is considered a healthy weight that will lower your health risk as you get older. I'm the same height as you and if I looked darn good at 160 I would still ask my doctor if I needed to lose more for my health.0 -
My doctors cool with my weight, Do i look obese to you I am still losing weight it wasnt really meant to turn into something about me, Was just using myself as an example to tell off the rude person for putting someones goals down.1

Yes because carbs from veggies are nutrient dense plus complex carbs last longer keeping you full for longer amounts of time. I'm sure you can survive off of a non carb diet but you might not meet your nutrition requirements0 -

If I was trying to cut down 40 plus pounds I'd stick with veggies and lean meats. Besides that I'd incorporate sweet potatoes into my diet as well. Get rid of foods high in starch, bread, juices and soft drinks...with vegetables I like a variety of them, just keep your portions small when meal prepping. Good luck! And be patient and trust the process.0 -

So if you're not an expert on anything, why should we be asking you questions rather than some other random poster on MFP?
You don't have to ask me questions. You could have went to the next thread. I asked if anyone needed advice I'd be glad to help with any questions. That doesn't mean I'm an expert doesn't mean I'm a specialist. If I give you advice you take it and go research it. Advice isn't fact it is advice. If I was an expert I'd still expect you to go and make sure that advice was something that would work for you or not.0 -

Staying out of the emotional side of the argument to clarify a point:
"Obese" isn't a look. It's a clinical definition of a physical state. At your height, that threshold is around 169-170 pounds, no matter how you look.
Although you think BMI is crap, it's really not. It's useful for analyzing population data and assessing risk potential based on it. Statistically, being overweight raises your risks for a host of diseases, and those risks accrue with time. In other words, you may be healthy now, but statistically, chances are you won't stay healthy in the long term.
