unless you have diabetes or some other health reason - sugar doesn't matter, type of carbs also don't matter...
high fiber is great, but too much fiber not so great.
it's all CICO - either you are not in the deficit you think you are or you have an undiagnosed medical issue since you say you are not losing weight despite your efforts. do you log EVERYTHING? weigh with a food scale in GRAMS?
ETA: you haven't mentioned anything about your stats, how much you currently eat, etc. maybe we could help if you shared more information other than that you want to find Saxenda to the magical solution.8 -

Also as a female, add strength training. This and weights or machines or your own body weight. This will rev up your resting metabolic rate so you burn more cals. It will give you a tighter look. It will help prevent osteoporosis. You won't look like a body builder, you will look leaner.27 -

I'm not sure I understand then. If you are doing everything correctly, and eating in a deficit why would you want an appetite suppressant if you didn't think you needed to get in control of your hunger? What's the point of getting control of something you already have control of? Maybe that's why it didn't work.
Also I know plenty of people who have been doing their job for a long time, and I have to ask them simple questions that they get upset about, but I still have to asking them because they are not smart (nothing to do with you, just what happens).
Hunger and nausea are side effects, as to which I've experienced none, making me think my batch or rx is even valid. The reason I'm taking it is that it allows your body to process sugars and fats more efficiently, clearly what my body is not doing now. I was given a sample kit from my doctor and I'm thinking since I'm the only one out there with apparent metabolic efficiency issues that hasn't had any side effects, I may have been given a bad dose. I'm really only interested in the comments re-Saxenda. Thank you.
But your doctor said that you are perfectly healthy, and all of your test came back good so it doesn't seem you need help processing sugars and fats more effeciently, especially since you say you are eating 0 sugar. Seems like you are more focused on finding a reason besides overeating as to why you have gained weight. Oh and Saxenda, saxenda, saxenda if that helps.

First of all.....calm down. Jeez.
What is your TDEE? Do you use a food scale or measuring ups, or just eyeball portions? Have you been logging your food on here or at all?
You may get insulted, but step back for a minute here. You see these wonderful people responding to you? They've ALL lost a LOT of weight AND maintained their weight. Some of them have science/dietitian (not nutritionist)/personal trainer jobs...some have been doing it for longer than 20 years, some less. They've posted here because they want to help you. It is TRUE that a calorie deficit is the only way to lose weight. If the balance of CI and CO gets disturbed by not being accurate with calorie counting, then weight loss will NOT occur. Obviously, something you're doing is messing up the CICO energy balance because basic physiology dictates that you should be losing weight, even with medical conditions, if you're accurate with your calorie counting.
Everyone's trying to tell you that saxenda won't work if you're not in a calorie deficit.
And, it's not about the food you eat...it's ALL about calories. I eat 300 less than my TDEE.- I eat sugar.
- I eat LOTS of processed carbs
- I do practice portion control, but if I am low in protein, you betchya I will munch on a large steak if it fits my calories.
- Sometimes I don't do cardio at ALL. I mostly lift weights.
- I drink water, coffee, soda and diet soda.
- I like pie, wine, chocolate and cheesy poofs...and I still eat them and lose weight.
Aaaaannnd, almost 100lbs down.
Carbs and sugar do not cause obesity, too many calories do. It's scientifically proven. I used to weigh close to 280lbs. All I did was eat what mfp told me to, but I also used a food scale.
By the way....weight gain does NOT happen in a deficit, ever...No one is exempt from science. You mentioned having no illnesses and that all your blood work was clear, yet you are self-diagnosing yourself with some metabolic issue that no doctor has ever found? There are many here with diagnosed metabolic illnesses and thyroid conditions that manage to lose weight just fine. And, if your body truly isn't metabolizing fats and sugars, you would in fact lose weight.
If you started gaining weight while you were injured and stopped doing your exercise, you obviously kept the same amount of calories...you energy balance changed and this is why you gained weight. You were giving your inactive body the same amount of calories than your active body required.

why do you think your body cant process fats and sugars? those people who train like that eat more than 1200 calories a day though. if you do all the above on 1200 calories you will put yourself into a negative amount of calories which would be like not eating much at all. you will also burn out,lose energy and so on.so yeah. for me I weigh everything(I learned that the hard way,I stopped losing and started gaining even though I thought I was eating less,I wasnt),I basically eat what I want in moderation as well. I have a metabolic disorder that makes it harder to lose weight,but I still do its just very slowly for me.
If you dont weigh your food(I dont mean measuring cups as they are not accurate),then you are eating more than you think,that was the real eye opener for me. what I thought was half a cup of oatmeal was actually a cup or a little more,my protein bar that claims is was 88g on the package? it was over 100g. if you dont weigh your oils that you cook with that can add another 100 or more calories per day.peanut butter is another one thats often off, 2 tbsp if not weighed ends up being more in the long run usually. all those calories add up over time.right now Im eating 1700 calories,Im 5'6 1/2 and Im 42.
Get a food scale and weigh all solids and semi solids in grams, and do that for a month and see if you lose anything. also put into MFP you want to lose 1lb a week(if will give you more calories,but a slower rate of loss),if you havent already.also only eat back 25-50% (you can even try 50-75%)of your exercise calories you burn back to allow for any over estimations.heck If I can lose weight with my health issue then anyone can.exercise just makes a bigger deficit,a deficit is all that is needed for most people to lose weight.7 -
OP, if you're not using a food scale, give it a shot. I used to use measuring cups, eat the two slices of bread, assumed that if the package said there were 4 servings in the package, I could eat a quarter of it and log one serving. Couldn't lose a pound.
When I started using the food scale, I saw I had been eating several hundred calories more than I thought. My cup of cereal wasn't one serving, It weighed in at one and a half servings. That chicken breast was actually double what it looked like to me. That "medium banana" was actually 75 calories MORE than I would have logged it. That can of tuna, had 3 weighed servings in it, not 2 like the can said. I started logging correctly and lost 15 lbs.
I eat bread, pasta, ice cream, fruit, pretzels etc along with plenty of protein and veggies (and beer), and am maintaining just fine. I return to the food scale every once in awhile to make sure I'm logging accurately.

You have GOT to be *kitten* joking, right? There is no way in hell sugar is similar to cocaine. NOPE. Anyone who says this has absolutely no idea what drugs an actually do to the body. Appalling and absolutely insulting.- Also, sugar does not 'wreak havoc' on the metabolism.

@manchester4 I've only skimmed the thread, but you seem pretty adamant that you're in a calorie deficit. You keep emphasizing the training/exercise that you do as if people are insinuating that you're not working hard. That is not what people are saying to you.
How do you know you are in a calorie deficit? How do you measure your intake? Do you have a foodscale, or do you eyeball/estimate and assume it's good enough based on the amount of exercise you do? Sadly, we can work our butts off at the gym and still be in a calorie surplus if we don't measure our intake accurately. How can you be absolutely positive that you're in a calorie deficit if you're not measuring?9 -

Also as a female, add strength training. This and weights or machines or your own body weight. This will rev up your resting metabolic rate so you burn more cals. It will give you a tighter look. It will help prevent osteoporosis. You won't look like a body builder, you will look leaner.
It's ironic that you're telling others what to do, when you're failing at your own weight loss goals. It looks like you're new to MFP, so maybe you don't know this-but there's a lot of people here who are very successful with their weight, health and fitness goals. It sounds like you're not at a place where you're ready to actually figure out what's going on, and that's ok. But, its rude to start a post asking for help, and when people take the time to offer you solid advice you respond with bro-science nonsense. It's becoming pretty clear why you're not succeeding at your weight loss goals.

I would love to hear what you are doing that is different from calorie deficit, no sugar, no processed carbs, portion control, no alcohol, high fiber, lots of water, 5 workouts per week including cardio and strength training, plus walking my dogs 30 mins a day every week. Plus weekend hikes. Please tell me.
Counting calories accurately and consistently. Weighing everything on an electronic food scale. Checking every database entry, or making my own. Using the recipe builder the same way. Eating food I like. Hitting calorie goal every day. No cheating, no forgetting, no giving up.

Well evidently this thread didn't and up being about me. Please whatever you do, pay attention to sugar. Studies have shown it's similar to a cocaine addiction. It wrecks havoc on your metabolism and can lead to insulin resistance and diabetes. It breaks down the collagen in your skin, leading to early aging. Sugar is one of the most horrible "natural" substances there are. It's in everything. You have to read every label.

None of this is true. You are majoring in the minors and paying too much attention to the broscience out there regarding weight loss and nutrition.
It sounds like you need to go back to the basics. Which is okay - we all do sometimes. Buy a food scale, measure your intake. The medication is not working because at the end of the day, you are not in a calorie deficit.13 -
You don't need to eat 1200 calories, you just need to eat less than TDEE and more than BMR. It's going to take a long time to lose 40 extra pounds but you can do it with a caloric deficit and no drugs. 1500 to 1800 is a big range and might not be enough deficit for you- but maybe you just need to stick to like 1550 and not go up to 1800. Or 1600 or 1440 or whatever is the CORRECT amount of calories for you based on your own stats and activity level. Why does everyone think they either need to eat 1800 calories or 1200?? There's a big range in between that might work well for you. Just because moderate to high calories isn't working doesn't mean you have to drop to the bare minimum!10

Me too. No attention whatsoever to carbs or sugar and I only walk. Just caloric amounts.

I'm enjoying that both my post about the drug doing nothing but suppress appetite, pointing out they have had the test that show perfect health aside from weight with the flowchart was so conveniently ignored.
buy a food scale. Weigh all solids and semi-solids. Log everything. Double check the entries you are using are correct. Never use a generic entry if at all possible. Do this for 6-8 weeks. Come back and tell us how it went.
I eat sugar and processed carbs and fats. I lose weight when I stick to my deficit. I even eat my exercise calories. Shock horror. Because the balance of energy works for everyone if applied correctly.13
