What nobody tells you about losing weight

How strange it is to be around people who didn't know you when you were overweight. I started a new job after losing 90 pounds. When I went out for a department lunch several commented on how amazing it was that someone so "tiny" could eat so much food (it was a SALAD people!) and how nice it must be to have a "fast metabolism". I didn't know what to say.38

Nobody tells you that you don't actually have to cook the WHOLE bag of tater tots for your family. You can cook up a batch of 1.5 servings per person and everyone survives...but still gets tater tots.54

So many people on this thread are having trouble with bra fitting! I had a lot of trouble as well. I've gone from a 40DDD to a 32DD while losing 90 lbs. I'm 10 lbs from my goal so I'm hoping that my bra size isn't going to change much more. My cup size stayed constant for most of that time and only started decreasing recently.
This may have been mentioned already--I haven't gone back and read every post--but try bratabase.com. You'll need to take a lot of measurements, but then the site will suggest sizes as well as specific bras for your body shape. You can also input detailed notes on how your current bras fit, and it will incorporate that into your suggestions.
For those looking for a great sports bra (or regular bra) for larger cup sizes, try Panache. I'm a runner and I wear their underwire sports bras, which are easily convertible between standard or racerback style straps, and they fasten like a regular bra instead of those awful elastic sports bras that you have to contort yourself to get in and out of.2 -

--Since I have been doing yoga every day on my own since Jan, I feel stronger and more balanced in my Monday night class
-- My blood pressure is now in a normal healthy range and do not have to take medication
--I love the fact that I can buy cute petite skinny jeans and leggings in a smaller size13 -
How self conscious I am talking about my weight loss. I am a very public person in my very small community, and everyday two or three or more people comment on or ask about my weight loss. So far they have all been positive and friendly. I wear a size 8 down from a16 so the weight loss can't be missed, and I just feel funny about all the comments. I am learning this is a private thing for me; I guess I should be thrilled so many people are cheering me on instead of wanting to squirm!21

That I can't sleep on my stomach anymore. The lack of a belly means no support for my lower back, when means back pain when I lay prone. Wakes me up every so often now....
Oh my god yes!!!!! It took a visit to my physiotherapist regarding a very sore lower back before she kindly pointed that out to me.6 -

Yeah, I had lost about 100 lbs when I started a new job, too. I've been there only 4 months, and it's still strange to me. I mentioned I wanted to lose about 10 lbs, and people looked at me like I'd lost my mind. Someone said, "From where?" (Ummm, this little belly I have. That's where.) In my last job, I was in front of groups of people talking all the time. Pure torture. But, now absolutely no self-concern about this issue. At the same time, though, emotionally / brain-wise, I am lagging behind what my new colleagues see.7 -

How it feels to finally find clothes your size in any store. Not just Lane Bryant or Torrid.
How energized and refreshed you are when waking up.
How nice my skin looks
How big my ego has become

I know that feeling- so strange- it suddenly felt like I had a secret. That what they saw was not the whole story

That if you overeat just a tiny bit you think you gained 60 pounds and are now a blimp again and need to go through all the hard work to get it off when in reality you didn't even gain a pound.
Or dealing with the worry of returning to fat land. I love having that worry now. Keeps my *kitten* on the straight and narrow. Kinda like a buddy who is always keeping me on track.31 -
that when you have upped your strength training even slightly that you need to be careful opening doors. I swear work are going to start charging me for re-plastering behind the doors. Used to have to put some real umph into some of the fire safety doors and now they fly open with the same effort and slam into the wall...oops35

Hihi not quite there yet, but I used to complain about the fire doors being too hard to open and that it was a bit of a safety hazard... (nearly all the other women in the company complain too... so it must be the doors... right?)
I realized after reading your post that they open like a charm now and they haven't changed the doors or done any amount of maintenance on them...18 -
- Just a few weeks in (weight loss and exercising again..) I started standing up straighter.
- I realised that when I stood up straighter, even my face looked better?
- Another month or two and I started to lose the visible weight around my face. And suddenly I started to actually... like what I saw in the mirror? After years of hating mirrors. All of a sudden I saw myself and I thought.. hey, she looks alright!
- Then I finally gave up on tying my belt tighter and tighter and bought new jeans and saw how my bum was lookin' in my new jeans and oh my, hello!
- ...and that's around when The Thing happened. I chucked out all the clothes that didn't fit anymore. Kept the ones that are still too small 'cause I know I'll be able to wear them in another couple months. And then I started to pay attention to what I wore. Instead of just throwing on something that was clean, I'll take a few minutes and pick out an outfit that I look good in. I started wearing makeup sometimes, and then I got my hair done with new style and colour. I'm still holding off on getting a whole new wardrobe 'cause I've still got 15lbs to go. But I'm saving up for doing just that in March/April, and it's gonna be awesome.
- ...and I stick up for myself now. Like, losing weight and getting fit is hard work, right? I've gotta plan out my meals, I've gotta stick to my gym routine and actually push as hard as I can when I'm working out. And hey- it's hard, but I'm doing it. Which means I'm someone who sets goals and sticks to 'em and who doesn't let myself get discouraged when I mess up for a day or a week, and who just gets right on there and keeps on going. I started this process thinking that it'd be good to lose a few pounds. I never, ever realised how it'd completely change how I look at myself. I want to take on a big, scary task that'll take ages? Sure! Just break it down, set it into my routine and come back to me in six months. Someone treats me badly? Pah, I've no time to deal with that shiz. It's kind of amazing?

Interesting thing, "actual" handicapped people assume that I use the handicapped stall to accomodate my size when in actuality I need the extra height due to my knees. Respect goes both ways, it's rough, if you walk into the stall that doesn't mean you don't struggle.
also, they may have an 'invisible' handicap- like claustrophobia, or a colonoscopy bag.16 -
I have been watching this board since I re-started my program in June of last year. I love to see the posts and they have definitely inspired me - thank you all!
Finally, I can post my own (I'm 47 pounds down with another 28 to go).- My butt hurts LOL! My tushy has no cushion. It's like I had been carrying around a stadium cushion that no longer exists.
- My glasses keep falling down my nose. I know I should go in and have them adjust, but that would mean an extra trip in my car, where my tushy will hurt from lack of cushion
- There are so many more choices of clothing now that I'm smaller - I had thought that maybe this was perception, when I was shopping plus sizes, but when I went over to the "other side" of the store, I was overwhelmed with the choices I had. Yes. I cried the first time.
- People keep calling me "Skinny Minnie". It's very odd how many people say this.
- People at work don't recognize me from the end of the hall. I wave (like I used to) and instead of waving back, they give me an odd look... then they get closer and LAUGH! I am told at least twice a week, "I didn't recognize you!" (this one is my favorite)
I'm good with all of the above... so far, there is nothing I dislike about being smaller. I am comfortable in airplane seats now (aside from lack of cushion), I can walk up a flight of stairs without wheezing, and this may be TMI but sex is WAY more fun.24 -
That when you are too sick to go to the gym you realize how much you miss it27
