@karllundy how is dad doing? I know the weather is crazy right? 59F at 5:30 this morning.

He's OK. Thanks for asking. Had surgery to repair a hiatal hernia and remove his gallbladder. But, he's 72 and hadn't had general anesthesia since ether in 1952 for a tonsillectomy.

    1/18 5 mile run
    1/19 10 mile run

    Goal: 96 of 170

I love running, but 10 miles on a work night is hard. I only have 1 more of those left before my marathon thank goodness! Lol!

Knee seems to be holding up so far. I've got another 20 miler on the schedule for Sunday. I will make sure to go to the bathroom before I start running so I can hopefully run it straight through with no pit stops.

@juliet3455 Dreadmill in the dungeon due to Ice Pelts and Black Ice?! Wow!

Did Body Balance yesterday, which killed my core and glutes. Went for a 12 km walk today.

I've been doing Body Balance once a week, nearly every week for about a year. I'm amazed how strong walking and running has also made me.

The last few weeks I've been getting into trying different arm balance yoga poses for the first time since doing gymnastics 35 years ago.

    Crow pose (Bakasana):
    Firefly pose (Tittibasana):
    Fowl pose (Kukkutasana):

It's nice to find things I enjoy to help keep active when I'm not running. Pretty happy with the state of my cross-training, so sorry not sorry for the brag!

    @Orphia - You're awesome!
@greenolivetree - I hope your knee gets better.

Today was crap-filled with disappointing news, irritation, and annoyance. I will not bore anyone with details but among the crappiness, my Garmin borked and suddenly was showing the wrong date/time and lost all my steps. That happened about 10 am, and powering off didn't fix it. It was saying it was Jan 18 all day and wouldn't connect to GPS.

I did a treadmill run to try to decompress from the events of the day and it seemed to track the workout ok in indoor run mode. According to it, I did 6.2 miles in 65.5 minutes, which would be a PR if I believed in the accuracy of that. The actual treadmill was much less kind, and said I only did like 5.4 miles. But I know the paces were faster than it was saying, so I'm going with Garmin on this one even though it's probably slightly high on distance. Call me a cheater, but the day sucked and I need that minor victory.

When I connected to my computer with Garmin Express it got back on the correct date, but lost all my steps again. However it kept the run logged as 1/18 - but the activity was there so that was a relief. I'm charging it now so I hope it will behave from here on out.

Check in: Rest day today. It feels weird to not run when nothing hurts. But yesterday evening, and again early this morning, my body reminded me that a rest day would be a Good Idea along about now. That, and it's a rest day on my training schedule.

Beautiful running weather, temps in the mid-40s F and overcast with minimal wind. I took a walk at noon, but didn't run. Tomorrow I'll make up for this with a long run.

Am I nuts for considering this? I wear size 7, and from what I can tell, the "big kids" size 7 they have listed is the same as the adult.....

@MNlittlefinn If they are the same size I'd buy them.
@karllundy glad he's doing good, the hiatal hernia repair is a big deal.

@MNLittleFinn I'd be concerned that they weren't built as stout as adult shoes.

Have fallen a tad behind on running because last weekend my 31-year-old nephew (wife's sister's son) lost his battle with PTSD. We had the funeral today. Yes, running is sometimes an escape from thinking about stuff, but sometimes it fades to zero priority with other things. I did compose a chunk of the eulogy while running.

<Reading the above it almost sounds like I'm regretful about not running. I have no regrets about how I spent this week.>

I'm not sure what the coming week might hold - there's a possibility that I'll head out to Oklahoma to help Cheryl clean out the apartment, and start the probate process. I don't want her going thru that alone (though there's Trey's ex-wife and son, and her family out there), but I don't know whether it'll be me, or someone else.

I'd appreciate your prayers and good thoughts for Cheryl and the rest of the family.

Like a lot of people I have been fighting the weather all month. Dug out the screw shoes tonight and did an End to End on the River Bank Trails. 10.9 km crunching through the Ice with every step, only had one really sketchy area - Slip/Sliding away at the transition zone onto a bridge over the smallest river we have. Didn't notice that I was 100m short until in the house with my shoes off, could have circled my street for the extra 100m. :/ Felt good to get out. Considering I have a HM in 2 weeks and I haven't been getting in the runs that I had planned/need so feeling a little :| . Because it is the first HM of the early Winter season most people run it as a fun event. Will be hitting it hard tomorrow for 18 km, a bit of a Distance - Confidence run plus one more long run planned next week in this cycle. Had planned 5 long runs but lost 2 of them to a work schedule conflict. The taper week will keep me from making goal.

    01/04 8.0 km –8.0km –132.0 km – YTD 8 km
    01/06 7.0 km –15.0km –125.0 km
    01/07 8.0 km –23.0km –117.0 km
    01/08 6.0 km –29.0km –111.0 km
    01/13 12.0 km –41.0km –99.0 km
    01/14 10.5 km –51.5km –88.5 km
    01/16 8.0 km –59.5km –80.5 km
    01/20 11.0 km –70.5km –69.5 km – YTD 70.0
