Sounds like my cousin's overweight wife telling their 10 year old stick thin daughter she is fat and making her drink several glasses of water before meals and anytime she said she was hungry. They divorced about six months after this started.
I hope he got custody.
My dad tried to control our eating. I remember him glaring at me forever eating veggies at a party. My sister says he did it to her too. We were stick thin tweens and teens.
She gave hom the kids after 3 months so she could run off with her boyfriend. Him and kids are doing well living with my aunt who feeds everyone constantly, people don't get a choice with her you just eat.8 -

(I can't remember exactly what "that" was - I think it might have been Maccas. I do remember it was yummy and that it fit my calorie goals for the day.)10 -

Diet soda will make you gain weight and causes cancer
Well I have actually read a lot of studies about diet soda and none of them are good. The problem with DS is your body thinks it is sweet and you have just taken in sugar, when you haven't, so your body produces insulin to regulate the sugar you didn't drink. Eventually your body starts to slow down on insulin production and problems start. And if you don't think the phenylaniline (sp.) in Diet Coke is bad, just google it and see. If 1/2 of what is said about it is true it is really bad for you3 -
When I was at 143lbs and was out of breath and felt my heart racing after walking upstairs in my townhouse someone told me that's normal. My response was no I need to get healthier.6

Kids don't like a lot of things until you make them do it, and then they enjoy themselves. Getting a kid to like walking means taking them walking and ignoring the whining. They learn to love it and it is one of the greatest gifts you can give them, imo.
I will never understand the idea that we express our love to our kids by encouraging them to be unhealthy, whether it's "kid food" or sitting on their backsides all day. Everyone likes a duvet day or chicken nuggets once in a while, but making that the routine is not an expression of love. Get the kids out in the rain. They'll thank you for it one day.
And if all else fails, take a ball and play fetch. If I've learned anything from my parent friends its that kids and dogs have a lot in common... but parents don't like to be reminded of that.12 -
From my mother "you can have as much pasta as you like, it's free on slimming world on a green day". No mother, it still has calories. Slimming world's business model revolves around you losing some weight but never enough to stop and never for lobg enough that you don't come back. So they teach you nothing and leave you completely dependant on them.9

Any studies done that suggest diet soda causes weight gain are correlational. What that means is that there is a correlation between those who drink diet soda and those who are overweight...but if we could all say it together now..."correlation does not equal causation!".
Any link between the two is easily explained by the fact that people who are already overweight/diabetic begin drinking diet soda to help them lose weight/control blood sugar.

I get a LOT of walking in just following my two year old around...I don't buy it either.3 -

I have to wait until I lose weight before I start lifting because I don't want all my fat to turn into muscle.
I don't want to build muscle I just want to tone.
If I had $1 for each time I heard the following or something similar:
Them: I gained weight or cannot lose weight because I have an underactive thyroid.
Other person: How is your adjustment been since starting your medication or other medical related question.
Them: Oh, I haven't been to the doctor.
Other person: How do you know you have a thyroid condition?
Them: Because I cannot lose weight or I read it on the internet.
Me: I think you should see a doctor for a diagnosis and treatment.
Some of the daft examples posted are concepts that aren't fully expressed or articulated well but may have a sprinkle of truth.
An example:
Person 1 -You cannot lose weight without cutting carbs.
Person 2 - You don't have to cut carbs to lose weight!
When you're in a calorie deficit, most likely you're reducing calories from fat, protein and yes even carbs.4 -

It amazes me that people don't think about where that tongue has been. But then, I've seen plenty of people walk out of restrooms without washing their hands.6 -
"Calorie counting doesn't work" from people who have never counted a single calorie. However, they'll easily believe a diet in the magazine that claims you can lose 10lb of body fat in 10 minutes. Urgh.6

Mine was on here....I said that while a twinkie and an apple may have roughly the same number of calories and carbs, the fiber in the apple made it a better choice for ME who strives to eat a lower glycemic load diet (it makes it easier to not over eat). I also mentioned micronutrients etc... Someone said, in all seriousness: have the twinkie and a spoon of metamucil. Done.

Someone once told me that if i choose to eat low fat products my body will loose it's ability to brake down fats. When I eat "normaly" all the weight will pile back on again because my body won't be able to break down the fat.5

If your body decided whether or not to make insulin based on if it tasted sweet or not, there'd be quite some people with hyperglycemia running around after eating bread.17 -

Also phenylanine, an amino acid. Protein. Found in virtually every single food that contains any protein, including but not limited to: Meat, chicken, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruit, grains.19 -

No matter how much I tell her that her body will detox just fine unless she's having organ issues she's just convinced. I'm going to start offering to make her detox's for $10, full of whatever spices I need to use from my kitchen.18
