You ladies are awesome! I have enjoyed reading your updates this morning and ready to face the day at my job with the Department of Social Services. Thank you. I am now on my 2nd month with Myfitness pal and love it because it is so easy to use (easy is good, right). I will be celebrating my 64th birthday next month and feel great.4

Greetings all,
I had my weekly weigh-in. Down 4.2 lbs this week, for a total of 21.6. I find I am spending a lot of time planning meals and trying to balance my calories with the different nutrients. Fortunately, being an avid foodie, I am having fun looking for tasty low-calorie recipes to try. This week's hits were a warm balsamic chicken salad and lemon quinoa - https://cafedelites.com/2015/02/07/balsamic-chicken-salad-lemon-quinoa/ and an unusual pear and carrot soup - http://ciaoflorentina.com/roasted-pear-soup-recipe/. In the past, I probably would have had double or triple servings, but the food diary keeps my hand from reaching out for more.
Karen - Congratulations on your new grandson; I hope his breathing improves soon!
Carol - sending big hugs your way and hoping your challenge finds a happy solution!
Katla - hope DH's surgery goes well.
Yinka - the cufflinks are beautiful.
Ginger - I only recently starting walking seriously and have been progressively increasing time and pace. It all adds up.
Sarah - People don't realize how important healthworkers and teachers are to our communities' well being. Definitely overstretched, overstressed and underpaid professions.
Marcelyn - loved the fried chicken story.7 -
Good morning!
Karen - So sorry to hear about your grandson's problems. Hope he throws it off quickly.
Doing some tidying up for the viewing. We're not very cluttered, except in non social areas, so it's not too bad. Hope they don't open cupboards!
I managed my usual 600 calorie exercises this morning, but reeeeeaaaaalllly slowly. Had to stop/start on the rower and the elliptical. But I got there. My weight is holding at its new low, so I'm very pleased about that. Those sudden losses are so easy to put back, but I am sticking to my usual 1800 calorie diet and it's working ok.
Lots of love to all. Heather UK xxxxxxx

pitegny thanks for the new recipe sources-I love looking up new sites for food prep.
Long day yesterday, I overdid it in the faculty room at the festival--just feeling so worried about work, how did eating that big roast beef sandwich help that?? Anyway, got a nice compliment when the host of the orchestra festival said it was a shame I wasn't up there conducting and I am in line to do it next year!
We are headed for our first SNOWDAY tomorrow, so I am putting on the Jammie's for a terrific day at home looking out the window, cleaning or decluttering- a snow day is like finding $$ in an old coat--delightful.
Well before the flakes fall I have to work today and make it a great one, so one more cup of coffee, pack up the lunch and snacks and gym clothes and off to work I go. NYKAREN2 -
Morning again Ladies~
I did fall back asleep thank goodness.. I worked until 6 last night and then went over to Walmart and picked up my new glasses, amazing what a little tweak in your script can do..
tomorrow we have a winter storm coming 6-12 inches of snow. I had a kidney dr appt that I rescheduled.so I will stay home, Tom can take my car and I will do the snow blowing.. so at least I can get some exercise that way..
will do laundry and get dinner together also..2 -
Good morning everyone, just pondering my drive to work but it is above freezing at the moment so it should be ok. It was raining all night and when that freezes, it is like driving on a skating rink.
So despite feeling stressed yesterday, I did not overeat. This morning Is my Wednesday-improve- treadmill-stats day:
Last week 30 minutes @217k this week @231k so that was good.
Tammy Thank you
DJ Thanks for the support and love your "spiritual" quote

Just popping in to say I sorry I am for those in Mississippi and Louisiana who have seen so much destruction. It seems that there was very little warning.
Karen ~ Congrats on the new grandchild.
Katla ~ Best wishes for your DH's surgery.
Marnie ~ Love the funnies.
Sherry ~ Your minions are looked forward to by all of us.
Carol in GA4 -
Good morning all! Happy Wednesday! Reading posts. Feel too tired this morning to respond to much.
Welcome new girls! Great group here!
Sherry- Love the meme's! Many of them made me giggle. The popcorn/cremation one was great! I have seen that one before and told my kids, if they wanted to do that for me; that would be fine! LOL! My son said he is going to bury me in the dumpster behind my favorite chinese restaurant! My hubby gave him a look; but I found that hilarious and highly appropriate! I love my chinese food! (Yeah, I and my siblings and kids have a very dry and dark humor when it comes to death. But the alternative to laughing is crying. I would rather laugh.)
Marcelyn- Saw the fried chicken joke before; but you made it 10x better by signing with your craving for it! Bwaawk!
Marni- love the puppy joke!
Yinka- the cuff links are gorgeous! Do you have a website?2 -
Karen ~ I am so sorry that your new grandchild is having problems. Prayers said for him!

Hello from cold and rainy Worcestershire!
You girls are so kind about my cufflinks - thank you!
And I want to welcome all newbies, you are so very welcome! I find that just reading a few of these messages a couple of times a day makes me smile (and I was most likely already smiling!) It's like popping your head into a college (all girls, of course!) common room and knowing that it's full of your friends. You've definitely made this newbie feel very welcome.
For some strange reason, I woke up unnecessarily early this morning, but I still got up at 6.00. I did some early morning shopping and then did a deadlift and squats session for half an hour before having a late breakfast with DH. Oh, and my last weigh in (Sunday) saw a tiny loss of 0.6lb.
Wednesday is normally split between housework and making cufflinks for me, but I notice that I have a few things in my sewing basket that also need my attention so the cufflinks will have to wait until Friday.
I've just seen a news report about the terrible scenes in Louisiana as a result of the tornado. My heart goes out to all of those people affected.
Have a happy Wednesday everyone!

Gals, I started this yesterday morning so it’s a bit dated; had to leave for work and didn’t get it posted. But here goes…..
Joyce – enjoyed reading about the home repair/improvement. I can visualize your yard and the stump grinding and your plans. I grew up in Northern Indiana – have lived out here in the Pacific NW nearly 40 years but do like going back to the cornfields and flat land.
We need to have our deck repaired/replaced, new shower stall, new back door. We have a good guy lined up to do the work but just getting off our duffs and getting him scheduled is the challenge – DH and I are becoming such procrastinators.
Yesterday’s heavy snow took out the shade house (big netting over wooden frame) – broke the supports holding the netting. Thank goodness, we didn’t have any plants/little trees sitting where it collapsed. The greenhouse seems to be OK. It’s all a small operation here—we just raise our own plants/trees plus some for the Master Gardener Plant Sale.
Because of the snow and treacherous roads – slushy, trees breaking/branches falling, I moved my doc appt to next Monday. They didn’t mind at all – the orthopedic docs were likely busy seeing patients with fractures and blown out joints due to falls and snow shoveling.
Nancy D in Del Ray, way to go on the weight loss! Proud of you! Inspiring to think of walking on the beach ;-)
Kelly, condolences to you and your family on the loss of your sister.
Katla, glad the weather has cleared up and your DH can get the surgery today. Nice to get that overwith.
Yinka, the cufflinks are beautiful. Do you make any other jewelry? And yes, do you have a website or Etsy store?
Sherry, glad things are going well in the gorge. Beautiful area – one of my dear friends loves to spend time in Joseph OR every year and it’s on our bucket list. Love the minions and other funnies.
Carol, hope things are going OK in your world. I said a prayer.
Karen, hope little Reid gets over the breathing issues quickly! Prayers going out on that too.
Pip, love it that you and Kirby ride bikes together. We used to do that on country roads when we lived in a rural area near Seattle 30 years ago. (It’s now suburbia!)
This winter weather is really something for everyone… terrible about the tornadoes…. Everyone who doesn’t have to drive in the snow, don’t. Starting to rain and I hope it washes the slush away. There’s lots as we had 5” of snow.
By the way, this really IS a virtual pub. LOVE that idea.

OK, after reading everything I could find on cutting way back on sugar and fructose, I think I’ve settled into a plan that seems to be working – loosely modeled after That Sugar Book by Damien Gameau and Fat Chance by Dr. Robert Lustig- here are some highlights:
• Eat a big low carb supper every day including a whole avocado – I used to shy away from them because they are often expensive up to $1 each (or more if not on sale). I realized that’s the cost of a candy bar, or 2 Keurig coffee pods, or a bag of chips. Most junk food snacks which I was eating are much more than $1 each. And since I don’t have luck storing half an avocado, what the hey – eat the whole thing. That’s 8 or 10 grams fiber right there!
• NO eating after supper and no more junk food – no Reese cups, little Debbie’s, Creamsicles, potato chips. I ate this stuff because it was a habit, not because I was hungry! We always are done with supper by 5:30.
• Eat cheese or nuts or veggies and hummus if I need a snack during the day. Or a piece of chicken.
• Cut way back on complex carbs, but don’t eliminate. I still eat plenty of beans, whole milk in coffee, etc. Still eat pizza (small slice with a huge salad), roast beef and potatoes (half a small one.) Still put a bit of honey or maple syrup in my daily low-carb muffin (almond meal, flax seed meal, coconut flour, egg). I don’t have a sweet tooth unless I get started on the candy-then can’t stop.
• Aim to have 10-12 hours between night meal and breakfast.
• Eat enough but don’t overeat. I'm not counting calories but using the MFP log to see how many added sugar carbs I'm eating. Daily goals are 50% fat, 25% each on protein and carbs, but I'm not beating myself up if I am not there. Got this from That Sugar Book and it makes sense for me.
This is much like way I used to eat until about a year ago when the snacking and junk food binging started along with 10+ pounds. I know many of you are on a similar program and are having success not only with weight loss but just feeling better-fewer aches and pains, less sluggish, etc.
I read someplace that for some of us, there’s no moderation when it comes to sugar – I am like an alcoholic in that regard when it comes to candy and junk food. (I did stop drinking alcohol about 6 months ago, much like I quit smoking 25 years ago – decided I was done with it and just walked away. I wonder if dropping the sugar junk food will be that easy.)
I'll weigh in the end of the month and hopefully I’ll be able to wear the smaller sizes in my closet and take some pressure off my knee as a bonus.

Sharon I'll have to look for that book. I do think in health and in relationships we get into a pattern that is often times difficult to change.
Karen prayers for Reid and all of you. Tough when someone is ill in the family. Kudos for taking care of you.
Lanette here's to continuing to make good food choices. I am using cinnamon to help replace any added sugar. It gives my tea and other things I add it to give a sweet taste without the sugar. I think it is good anti inflammatory too and may help with blood pressure. Mine has been on the high side as of late. I did just learn that ginger another spice I am using frequently is a blood thinner. So if you are on blood thinners be careful with ginger.
Just reported a scam on Facebook. Someone pretending to be a famous figure asked me for money. So sad that they do things like that and use sad stories to try and lure you into their trap.

Going to look at more RVs today when I get back from chiropractor.

Just read an interesting article in a major newspaper today about weight loss and cold weather. Here are some excerpts:
A new study published in the journal Scientific Reports found that people actively trying to shed pounds had the best results when the temperature dropped. The more inhospitable the weather, the more conscientious people became about keeping track of their meals and calories.
“Climate-related factors can directly change a person’s behavior, and these factors can have a certain impact on intentional efforts to lose weight,” said Sang Youl Rhee, who led the research team at Kyung Hee University Medical Center in Seoul. “In addition, various climatic factors can lead to a significant change in the level of energy expenditure in the body.”
Researchers tracked the weight loss of 3,274 people under 42 throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia with Noom Coach, a fitness app that can pinpoint the location of users. They then used a meteorology service, called Weather Underground API, to monitor conditions, and discovered that colder temperatures and lower dew points as well as higher wind speed and precipitation were all linked to the app users’ weight loss.
On average, people logged into Noom 110 days during the year-long study, or roughly every three days. Men tended to use the app more frequently than women and were more likely to lose weight. People who logged their meals regularly, especially dinner, lost the most weight.
“During the weight-loss journey, it’s important to focus on changing the underlying behaviors that lead to obesity,” said Rhee, an endocrinologist. “Those who continue logging food and have an awareness around what they are eating will be most successful in losing weight.” (My emphasis added)
So all of you on this weight loss ride with me, keep those food logs up to date, they do work!

*sigh* As usual, I just can't keep up with all of you ladies! I did a LOT of skimming, so I'm sure I missed a great deal.
Kelly - I'm so very sorry for the loss of your sister. I lost my younger brother - and only sibling - way back in 1988. He was 18 and I was 23. He was a hemophiliac and got caught up in the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. I was devastated. If you need/want someone to talk to, just send me a friend request. I have large cyber-shoulders to cry on and am a pretty good listener. My thoughts are with you.
Karen - Thinking of your little grandson in the NICU. I hope he improves soon and can go home and be with Mommy & Daddy. And be spoiled rotten by Grandma!
Sherry - Thank you for the Minion and cat memes! It's great to start my day with a laugh or few!
To those who are struggling with one or more aspects of their lives: I know it's hard to be strong (I have my own issues to work out), but we can handle whatever it is. We're women and we don't give up! And we have a fabulous support group right here to help us out!!!
For those who are reaching their goals: Way to go!!! Isn't it awesome to see all your hard work pay off? My goal is to join you!
Have a great day ladies - catch you who-knows-how-many pages later!3 -
Morning Ladies,
Had a fasting blood sugar blood draw this morning. Home now and having my oatmeal and coffee.I lost another .4 lbs! Slowly getting it done.
Had a wonderful book club meeting at the library last night. We discussed the book The Girl on the Train. Lively discussion! Have to run back to the library because I left my water bottle there by accident.
Also have to go to the post office today.
In between I will get in my daily steps and do some strength training at home here. Making a new dinner tonight involving spaghetti squash. Will share recipe if it turns out good.will add a salad to the dinner.
We got our daughter her plane tickets to come visit us in TX. She hasn't been yet. Since she works from home she won't have to take the entire week off. Flying her into Houston so can spend some time with our son at his apt. Long story about their relationship for another time. It will be forced visiting in order to make mom and dad happy. So it will be!!
Promises to be another hot day here.
Take care ladies!

Diary - I wanted to point out to people that may be looking at my diary that I generally do a 19:5 fast. This is where I eat during a five hour window of time. I started this over a year ago because of my Lymes disease. It is supposed to be a long enough time between eating for your body to rid itself of dead and dying cells. This promotes the regeneration of healthy cells that are needed to combat the Lymes disease. So, all the food that you see in my breakfast lunch and dinner slot is actually eaten during a five hour time period Not really definite meals. I start eating at around 3 o'clock until 8 o'clock. I love this way of eating for me because I am a nighttime snacker and this works out really well for my eating style.

ELLIPTICAL QUESTION:
Those of you with home exercise equipment, how many of you have an elliptical - do you prefer it over a treadmill or instead of? Or both? Pro's and con's?
Many years ago we had a treadmill which was great to hang clothing on. I see elliptical at the gym but haven't tried one yet...but will next time I'm there and they aren't busy (normally every one is taken!)
Thank you!

Sharon in Canada. Awe, everyone is different and have their own personal space specifications. I suppose living in Japan for 7 years has something to do with it. Absolutely no personal bubbles there! I have a theory that I meet a new person every day. (Just now in this laundromat I talked to a guy that we see walk daily to the mini mart that is next door to the laundromat. 86 yrs. Old bless his heart!

Jolene -OK, so I will give you a giggle at my expense for the day. I was sleeping so well this morning. I had only slept two hours the night before. I was dreaming it was the weekend and we could sleep late....then the alarm went off... its 5:00 a.m. I rolled over and asked my husband why he set the alarm. He says, "so I can get up to go to work":. I said, "its Sunday you goof ball" ! Then he says, "are you alright?". I sat up and looked at him, and said, "Yes, are you?" He said, "Yeah, but its Tuesday". Much to my dismay, I realized I woke up addled. So I went back to bed until time to get up for work.
I finally get to work, looking like a frayed dust bunny out of the back of someone's closet and get to the office fairly unobserved by the other people in the building. I get settled down and dry out. Then my husband calls while on his break to check on me. Apparently, I freaked him out this morning when I "didn't know what day it was". According to him, I am always on top of it and he was worried something was wrong with me. Golly, a girl can't have an off day without everybody thinking the cheese has slid off the cracker.
I have had days when I lost track of which day it was. Most times I can get it straight, but I really hate it when it throws me off for the remainder of the week. Like the time I woke up on a Thursday thinking it was Saturday. I thought it was Saturday for 2 full days before it was actually Saturday. Of course, I blame my jobless state on that incident. Easier to get back on track when you have to go to an office.
Thanks for my morning giggle. I'm still grinning at "thinking the cheese has slid off the cracker." Never heard that phrase before and am planning on using it often.
Yinka - those cuff links are gorgeous.

Charleen - interesting article, thanks for sharing
Mary - sounds like you found a good regime for dealing with your Lyme disease. I was diagnosed with it about 20 years ago, before it was very common here in our part of France. I was bitten by a tick visiting family in North Carolina. It was low on my back, so I did not see the rash. By the time I returned home I had forgotten all about it. Two months later, I started having ocular migraines, beautiful light shows that lasted a few minutes at a time. My optometrist didn't find anything. Then I started getting a strange pain in my back and went to my generalist. I just happened to mention the migraines and he asked immediately if I had been bitten by a tic. He ordered a test, which came back positive. A month of heavy antibiotics later, I was free of symptoms. I am very grateful that he was an amazing diagnotician. Lyme disease is now very common in our area. Out of twelve neighbors at a dinner a few weeks ago, three had had the disease and we have another neighbor who had to retire on disability, because his was not diagnosed until the disease was very advanced.1 -
Good morning friends,
I am struggling with some issues with hubby today. Determined to not let it derail me. Busy day ahead - haircut, chiropractor, grocery store. (That's not busy for you, Michelle, but it is for me!) Tomorrow I am finally getting back in the pool. Made a "date" to meet a friend and go together so I won't back out.
Marni, Sherry, and more - enjoying the jokes, stories and memes that bring a smile and chuckle to my day!
Karen - your new little guy is in my prayers.
Katla - It will be so good to get this surgery behind you.
Rita - hope the day goes better for you.
