Thanks @Elise4270 and @BEERRUNNER ! Very helpful info. Dr Google is telling me it's tight quads. I have been stretching them, but my main focus has been on my hamstrings. I am going on vacation on Tuesday. I think I will continue to work on them and make an apt with a PT when I get back.

@ddmom0811 so sorry about the people you know in the hospital. I hope they all recover well. What a scary stuff all around.

@RespectTheKitty What the what? We have a couple of guys in our running group who wear shorts all year round and it astounds me how they can bare their legs in the cold. But shirtless and barefoot? Maybe it was some personal challenge like those people who jump in an icy lake, but that sounds a little concerning mental-health wise. I'm sure it made for an interesting run.

@ddmom0811 @HonuNui The time doesn't really concern me, it's the stress of training. Coming off the injured list to HM in 11 weeks is potentially just dumb. I could just plan on a fall half. But a slow half may not be stupid.

Just wondering what anyone else thought. Off 7 months now with no cardiovascular training.

Doc appointment the 24th. I will take into I account how he feels about it.

I don't remember whether this will be your first half marathon. If you've never run a half before, I'd say don't do it. Take more time, and wait until there is no doubt that your body is ready for the distance. Maybe don't even register for a half until you feel ready to run that far.

If you've run one or more half marathons already, the picture changes. You will have some idea of how it feels to run that far in a race environment, and can make a more rational decision as to whether 11 weeks is enough to get to where you need to be.

    Thanks @MobyCarp. I've run 3. My PR is 2:15.

ETA I was on the verge of that sub 2 HM. Best 5k was 24:44. I'd really like to be moving back to chasing those PR's

It's 80F degrees here :o It was 20F Wed morning. Crazy! I walked 3.8 miles this morning because at this point my overall fitness needs improvement so I thought walk first run later because I'd never walk after running. So hoping after sundown to make it out for 3 miles.

Got a trail run in today... really struggled with it, though. As I ramp up my mileage, I've increased calorie intake because I tend to be truly struggling with both hunger and running performance / speed.

Hi all, I'm new to this board + relatively new to the MFP community in general. I set a new year's resolution to run 2017 miles in 2017. Ambitious, as I'm not a "runner". My Feb goal is 60 miles. I'm starting low and ramping up to peak in summer. Miles so far are on the elliptical. Soon to convert to treadmill. Then outside as it's nicer. I'm in MN, so not outdoor friendly weather yet.

Here's my breakdown by date--daily miles--total monthly miles:

    2/1 - 6.5 - 6.5
    2/5 - 6.4 - 12.9
    2/7 - 6.7 - 19.6
    2/11 - part 1 (7.4 miles done) -- 28.0

You're here, your a runner! Welcome!

    @Elise4270 I probably should've worn sunscreen but I didn't seem to burn.

@aenglert_04 welcome! We have some other runners in the group from MN :)

@dpwellman how could you forget to check in with such awesome people like us? ;)

I got my 3 miles ran. In the middle of a fight with the hub about......running. Bottom line and long story short, he claims he supports me and wants me to run and I expect him to start acting like it and prove it :|

Welcome to MFP MRC! Now, what's this about MN not being outdoor friendly????? LOL, I'm a nut who has run in the -13 temps here on the Mesabi Iron range.

You'll find this is an amazing group that's very supportive, and you'll be amazed at the progress you can make running. My goal last march was the same as your goal for this month, and it was my first month really running. I ended 2016 with over 1200 miles and 2 half marathons.

    You got this!

Oh, and the rule around here is you're a runner, unless you've found a dead body, then you're a jogger, becauseonly joggers seem to find dead bodies.

Goodness! I was all down on myself for not hitting my 13mi goal today and silently berrating myself for posting to the board. Swing back and see such warm, welcome messages. I love it! Thanks everyone!

@MNLittleFinn -13°? Hellllllll naw. I'm inside until it's in the 50's. And I have no plans on finding a dead body. But I have a degree in forensics, so I'd know what to do if I did ;)

@aenglert_04 -13 that's not cold, that's a nice balmy day. Here are some pics my Niece took last weekend at our local Chilly Willy HM.

My Niece's AG 1st Place Medal.
    I have a Men's AG 2nd place medal.
Yes that is a S**t Cicle hanging from the Nose of the medal, and yes the arms move up and down just like a runner.

Today was not a good day for our traditional Long Run Saturday.
Thursday -15C. Today 1C. All the hard packed snow has turned into polished ice. My news feed sums it up " burned 50 calories doing 10 minutes of Running (jogging), 6 mph (10 min mile)".

Met up with our local club members and broke up into mini sub groups based on distance -speed- energy-ambition etc. 5 of us took off for an easy 10-15 km. At the first cross road the footing changed from Okay to Runner down. All the vehicles spinning their tires going around the corner had it polished. 2 of us went down, I smacked hard on my left knee. Walked it off and took off again. Got to the next corner - we all dropped into the Runner Shuffle to crawl around the corner - the lady in front of me went down and accidentally pulled me down landing on my right hip. May have said ** Kitten ** and a few other ** words. Walked it off and took off again, now heading down Westbrook Hill with good footing, the road made a little turn and now faces straight South. The footing change into an all out super slider with runners going all over the place. We all went down, some on the road, some in the drainage ditch beside the road. We definitely said lots of ** Kitten ** words. With out discussion we all started walking back to our vehicles and the coffee shop.
Including the Walk back a grand Total of 3 km today. 1.5 km of running/falling.
Knees are a beautiful shade of purple and one cut on the left knee.

    02/05 21.2 km –21.2km –118.8 km – YTD 141.3 – Chilly Willy HM ChipTime PB@ 2:12:36
    02/06 3.0 km –24.2km –115.8 km – YTD 144.3 – 3 km Recovery run
    02/11 3.0 km –27.2km –112.8 km – YTD 147.3 – 3 km Falling on the Ice

Tomorrow will be a Swim-Hot Tub day. No running for the bruised and battered.

Yes, I'm already getting my shoe tan lines. My feet will probably stay super white since there's no way I'm wearing flip flops right now with my black toe nails, blisters and callouses! Lol!
