Just a few more easy runs the past few days including a treadmill run, a mid-long-ride brick run, and a hot humid 10 mile run to/from lunch.

Slightly behind schedule, but given I'm ahead of my biking/swimming goals, I'm OK with shifting time in the next few weeks to more running.

    2/1 - 5 miles
2/4 - 13.1 mile (paced best damn race 1:50 group)
    2/5 - 1 mile (lifting warmup)
    2/6 - 6 miles (treadmill)
2/7 - 5 miles (mid century ride brick run @70 mile mark)
    2/8 - 10 easy miles (to/from lunch)

    Total: 40 miles
    Goal: 180 miles
    Remaining: 140 miles

    Recent Races:
    Oct - Chicago Marathon (3:04:57)
    Nov - Ironman Florida (10:21:27)
    Dec - Chase the D 5K (18:13 - 1st overall)
    Jan - Chilly Willy Duathlon 5K/10M/5K (1:07:48 - 1/23 AG)

    Upcoming Races:
    May 7 - Pittsburgh Marathon
    June 4 - Ironman Raleigh 70.3
    Aug 27 - Ironman Coeur D'Alene

    February Running Totals (miles)
    2/1 – 7.00 easy
    2/2 – 2.63 easy shakedown run
    2/3 – travel day, didn't get a run in
    2/4 – 7.99 warm up on road + 8K cross country
    2/5 – travel day, didn't get a run in
    2/6 – travel day
2/7 – 9.26 warm up, speed work, cool down
    2/8 – 7.02 group run
    2/9 – 12.03 MP intervals

February total to date – 45.93

Nominal Challenge Goal – 225 miles
Real Goals: Survive travel to and from Bend. Train well toward Boston. Avoid injury.

Today's notes – Got out to run in the heat of the day at 3:30 PM, 21º F (-6º C) with 15 mph NW wind. The revised training plan called for 10 miles today, structured as 2 easy, 3 MP, 2 easy, 2 MP, 1 easy. Because I missed too much running with the travel to Bend, I tacked on an extra 2 easy miles at the end. Then I had to go run a hilly route. The idea was to target 7:30 for MP, based on my flaming out during marathons while trying to run a more aggressive pace. The first MP interval was okay, though mile 5 looks slow because I hit a stoplight with unfavorable cross traffic. Mile 6 looks close to MP, as I wasn't good at slowing back down to easy. Mile 7 was more of an easy pace, and during that mile I realized I was supposed to pick it up to MP right at mile 8, which is the geographically most challenging mile on this route. Geared myself up for it, and ended up running miles 8 and 9 faster than the target on average. Like, 7:19 and 7:16. Oops. Trying to run that kind of pace at Boston will get me into trouble. The good news is, after that I didn't have any trouble slowing down to an easy pace for the last 3 miles.

It would be nice to get out for an easy 5 miles tomorrow, but my best guess is that I won't be able to fit that into the schedule. Oh, well. It won't kill me to keep the scheduled rest day tomorrow and bring the week in below the training plan's target mileage. Next week should be a lot easier on the schedule.

    2017 races:
January 1, 2017 Freezeroo #2 (Resolution Run 7.5 mile) (Mendon, NY) Finished in 50:45

    February goal: Lose 3 pounds

    2/1: rest
    2/2 3.16
    2/3 3.60
    2/4 busy
    2/5 really busy
    2/6 exhausted from being busy
    2/7 4.02
    2/8 snorkel 3.5 hours
Pic of the day is......I don't know. Some say a nudibranch, but I can't find anything similar in any of my references. Octopus-like in movements, but with at least 9 (maybe 10) arms without suckers. About a foot long. Any marine biologists in the crowd?

My plan had been to run Fri/Sun/Tues and ended up running Fri/Tues/Thur....so still 3 runs in the same 7 day period. Only 11 miles total :-/

I think I need to stick to 3 days a week and low mileage. I ran 16 miles the week before and felt like I could be bringing on shin splints already (ugh, I've barely ran!) Today I had some sharp shin pain and had to walk a minute. I've also had some random sharp shin pains when I'm just sitting around?

So I'll probably do Saturday then Monday or Tuesday and keep evaluating. I don't think I'll get more than 40 miles this month :( Just trying to play it safe.

    @HonuNui Creepy creature!

    Upcoming:
25 Feb - 16.4 km Farm to Pub

Ran 10 km this morning, and Garmin sent my run to Strava, but Garmin didn't save the activity in Garmin Connect.

I've synced it at least 10 times, logged out and in of GC, updated on Garmin Express, and synced some more, but it's still not showing as a run in Garmin Connect.

    I've lodged an error report.

Pretty happy, though, that all is well in Strava. Strava is my life.

This happens to me occasionally with my Garmin as well. If you physically connect it to your computer (like when you need to access Garmin Express if you want to add or update an app on your watch) you can import it directly to Garmin Connect. In Garmin Connect click the big white plus sign in the top right corner and select 'Import Data'. You can then hit Browse, or open your File Explorer to drag and drop, and browse to your watch (it should show up as a storage device on the left, see first image below). Open the GARMIN folder, then ACTIVITY, and then pick the most recently-dated file. If you are good with computers and this is an insult to your intelligence I humbly apologize!!! Lol. I only stress how to do this because one time this happened to me, and not even Strava caught it, and Strava is my life as well!

@KatieJane83 Thank you so much for going to all that trouble to explain it for me. That's such a nice thing to do.

I really, really appreciate it! xxoo

My run, that once was dead, now lives! Zombie Run!

@HonuNui - My first thought was octopus too. Whatever it is I think I am in love! It is beautiful and I could just sit and watch the video over and over. I also love nudibranchs - studied them extensively in college and they are beautiful. This doesn't really look like one except in the body.

Tough run with the club last night - enjoying my rest today. Bit of a niggle in my ankle, which I am hoping will be fine for Parkrun tomorrow & then long run Sunday (although not as long as you marathon-ers!).

Feeling a lot more into a routine with my running, so hopefully I will start to see some improvements.

    Next Race: Resolution 10K - 26th Feb

    @HonuNui that looks fascinating!!!

I'd say anemone - it looks fixed in position and it almost looks as though the arms are floating rather than putting into a mouth. I really don't think it's an octopus and it's certainly not a nudi.

Yayyy!!! I'm so happy my directions made sense and were helpful! I'm a total nerd, lol, I enjoy it. I'm not in IT or anything, but am pretty decent with computers, so often ended up being the person people would ask for help at work, haha. I like doing it! And most importantly, I wanted to save you from the panicky feeling I went through the one time it didn't even pull through to Strava! I was so sad thinking I'd have to manually enter it and lose all the actual data (HR, elevation, pace, etc) :o

@KatieJane83 Hope you survived the snow! How much did you get? Seeing all your zumba makes me want to do that again. It's so much fun!! Maybe I'll tty to make some classes after the marathon.

Hi, thanks for asking, I did survive! Only got 7 inches, booo (yes I'm weird, but I like snow and they were saying 8-12 inches! haha). Will be doing today's run on the dreadmill though, because the temps have stayed really low so the roads are still not in good condition, and I still have no special shoe equipment for dealing with ice/snow. And yes to zumba! I grew up with dance as my sport (ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, etc.) and also taught it for a number of years, so zumba is my dance fix now. I'm really bummed because my Wednesday class just got a new teacher and, no offense to her, but for me her routines and choreography are really slow, and repetitive, and boring. I always look for the classes that are the most challenging, but I burned about a 1/3rd the cals I normally do for Wed zumba with her class. Ugh. But you should totally do it, it's so much fun!

A long slow one today, to help take my mind off the 5ft x 6ft hole in my bedroom ceiling caused by the kids and their apparent desire to turn the upstairs bathroom into a giant paddling pool.

My local running store is promoting these Bambooty products. Has anyone tried them? I like the supposed anti-bacterial properties. just wondering if they are worth the $.

@ritzvin- That's a bad *kitten* photo. Looks like a band promo or something!
@garygse- Holy cow! Sounds like definite cause for a run! Good luck with the clean up.
@BeerRunner- Your running path looks almost identical to the one I run along near my work. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten to spend much time there recently because I don't feel safe to run in the dark there, but now that it is staying light later, I should get some runs in soon.
@Katiejane83- Wow! Totally jealous of your running territory! Beautiful!

2/2-1.2 miles with Stella +6.9 miles solo
2/3-1 mile with Stella+2.3 shakeout miles
    2/4-6.2 miles Cyclones Frozen 10K-PR!
    2/5-14 miles
    2/6-rest day
    2/7-5.7 miles
    2/8-7.5 miles
    2/9-6 miles

Pretty, frozen moonlight run yesterday evening. 5 easy, peaceful miles after a 1 mile warm-up with Stella. This morning was supposed to be speedwork on the treadmill. I am still experiencing some tightness in my hamstring and glute and decided to skip the speedwork. The logical side of me says to take a rest day in preparation for my 20 miles this weekend. But I packed my bag and am hoping to get out of work with enough daylight to maybe hit a short, easy run on the bike path. I am hoping that getting some flat terrain in might help balance things out. Maybe it's wishful thinking. I am just going to play it by ear based on how I feel. I know that maybe I am being stubborn, but 4 flat easy miles can't hurt, right? Right?

@karllundy Thanks! The insulation has been ripped out so that the dehumidifiers and blowers can be more effective and dry things out before mold has a chance to add to the problem. I think this beats the time when another kid (not even one of mine) attempted to set fire to the kitchen by microwaving a pot of instant macaroni cheese without adding any water first. She got to discover that dry pasta's pretty damned flammable!
