February Running Totals (miles)
2/1 – 7.00 easy
2/2 – 2.63 easy shakedown run
2/3 – travel day, didn't get a run in
2/4 – 7.99 warm up on road + 8K cross country
2/5 – travel day, didn't get a run in
2/6 – travel day
2/7 – 9.26 warm up, speed work, cool down
2/8 – 7.02 group run
February total to date – 33.90
Nominal Challenge Goal – 225 miles
Real Goals: Survive travel to and from Bend. Train well toward Boston. Avoid injury.
Today's notes – Felt beat up this morning after yesterday evening's speed work, so instead of running in the afternoon I did my tax return and let my body recover till the group run in the evening. Good call. The group run was quite pleasant, good conversation, decent weather, comfortable pace. I'm feeling better about getting marathon training back on track now; not running 3 days due to travel nonsense got to me worse than I thought at first.

@OSUbuckeye906 Hope you get cleared Friday!! Keep us posted.
@katharmonic Sounds like you need to find a marathon?0 -
Thanks @MNLittleFinn , @katharmonic , and @BeeerRunner !
I got my Chicago Marathon official results book in the mail from the 2016 race. Seems like it was so long ago and I seem so far from where I was running-wise at that point (for better and for worse) but it really wasn't that long ago and I know I'll be back into the swing of marathon training before I know it. In other running news, RW is going to be making an appearance at Columbus's Capital City HM this spring since it's the USATF Half Marathon Championships again this year, which reminds me that I need to officially register to volunteer. Also, Jeff Galloway will be talking at the expo for the half marathon I was thinking about running in May (Buffalo Marathon).
I was about 80+ comments behind in this thread and skimmed through them but I really enjoyed seeing the pictures of the places all of you run. It's neat to see all types of areas represented. Here's a few of mine.
These are an example of the neighborhoods nearby my apartment that I run most of my runs on. My runs are usually a mixture of running on residential streets and asphalt paths next to busier main streets. I do have to wait at a light to cross a very busy street in order to get to the more preferable neighborhood but the light is at the very beginning/end, so not too bad.
This is the trail that I have run most of my long runs on the past few years but I've used a little less this fall/winter after discovering some better running routes starting from home.

02/05/17 - Surf City Half Marathon

Here are pics of where I run. I run my neighborhood out to a busy 45mph street that I have to cross and then run up about 0.5 mile to get to the trail where I run along the river.
This my street heading out of my neighborhood
Busy street (although it wasn't busy at the time Google was out taking pictures) heading towards the trail with clearly marked 4-way stop that many people don't bother to stop at or they stop and go through regardless if you are in the crosswalk
Entrance to the trail - must have been taken a while ago because the greenery is much more grown up now
My view from the trail I also go out on the dirt service road right along the river on the weekends.

When's your marathon?
@Orphia June 18 haha. I'm trying to train more long game for CDR (125k) in August though now that I've been convinced I should run it. So really my mileage should be higher if I'm honest with myself
Oh my freaking wow. 125K????

Ran 10 km this morning, and Garmin sent my run to Strava, but Garmin didn't save the activity in Garmin Connect.
I've synced it at least 10 times, logged out and in of GC, updated on Garmin Express, and synced some more, but it's still not showing as a run in Garmin Connect.
I've lodged an error report.
Pretty happy, though, that all is well in Strava. Strava is my life.0 -
@Orphia
You can export the activity from strava and import it to GC. This will include time, pace, and path since it is actually a copy of GC. This dont solve the problem but at least this way you won't miss the activity in GC.1 -
@shanaber - those mountains!!! I love mountains. Not necessarily climbing them, but seeing them in the distance. It's probably not safe for me to be driving where there are mountains in the distance because I just stare at them. (JK)
Being the mature runner that I am, I am taking a rest day!
I have a goal of one rest day a week - so I am counting them as another MFP friend of mine is doing.
Being the data-nerd, like most of us in here, I just counted and I had 38 rest days last year. But that's because I did the Holiday streak and some of those days were just 1 mile runs - so when I add those days in, 42 rest days. However, my exercises are running, lifting and cycling. So when you mix them up it's really not so bad.
2/1 - strength training
2/2 - 4.30 miles
2/3 - rest day (5)
2/4 - cycling 34 miles
2/5 - Daytona HM - 2:22.01
2/6 - Strength training
2/7 - 3.5 miles
2/8 - Strength training + 3.1 miles with running group
2/9 - rest day (6)
Upcoming races
2/5/17 - Daytona Beach HM
2/26/17 - Disney Princess HM Orlando0 -
Another 2 miles done in the drizzle yesterday. Combined with a bike ride for my first double of triathlon training! Feeling good! Running with Tyne Bridge Harriers tonight

Nice seeing images of where everyone runs! I'd add some, but seeing as I run very early in the morning, just imagine some very dark images consisting of street lights and the odd early commuter or two. By the time it'll start getting light enough for me to enjoy the scenery, the clocks will go forward and plunge my runs back into darkness.

Funny story. I'm an idiot. I ran outside and totally forgot to try out my new shoes that are too slippery for the treadmill. It was all the neighborhood pictures that did it. Also, my husband was watching a movie and the treadmill is right there in the living room, and I play my music right through the treadmill's speakers, and it wouldn't have been polite...
It was very cold, but I didn't really feel it until after the run.0 -
2/1 - 3.4 'mill miles and a quick weight session. The scale was ugly today.

Managed to get out this morning ahead (I'm told) of a large scale blizzard promising a foot of snow. Lots of wind, and a little rain, but so far no snow. My "work from home" play is looking a little weak right now!1 -

Well, after all this talk about runners and cars, I had my 1st situation last night where a lady wasn't paying attention and was slowly veering towards me to the point where I had to hop up on the curb off the road. She got to hear some choice cuss words from me!
Otherwise, it was a good run. I had a pace run planned. The 1st 3 miles I felt really sluggish, but I guess my body got warmed up at that point, and I was able to kick it in gear. I normally don't enjoy the longer weekday runs, just because I'm tired from work, but I felt really good after this one, and my knee felt great too.3 -
2/1- 8.1
2/2- REST
2/3- 4.23
2/4- 14.11
2/5- 3.16
2/6- 6.16
2/7- REST
2/8- 8.09
2/9- REST
Total: 43.85
Monthly goals:
Mileage goal: 150
Real Goal: Stay healthy enough to get into the swing of real marathon training.
Today's notes: Thursday's are an optional XT day, but with my recent history of leg issues, I've pretty much decided that they will be a rest day. Looking at my schedule, I bump up to 6 days running next week anyway, so keeping Thursdays as rest after my Tempo Run Wednesdays seems like a wise idea.0 -

I'm way too lazy to commit to getting up early enough to run the Buffalo marathon/half marathon (6:30 am start). I am eyeing the Niagara International though (starts in Buffalo, ~1 mile away from my place) if I get to the point where I think I can do a marathon.

Drivers are pretty good about pedestrians where I run (they are used to walkers/runners/cyclists there)..though they could be a bit more careful on exiting the traffic circles. It's the cyclists in my neighborhood that are more likely to run a stop sign and mow you down-I've had a few close calls with them.1
-
Total so far: 22.8 mi
was not feeling it on yesterday's run. Overdid it a bit on the group runs Sunday and Monday.1 -
Well, my calves are still a bit stiff after yesterday's 10 miler, so I'm thinking today will be a rest day. Just walking for me today! That's fine since I have a rare Friday night to myself tomorrow, so I can run then.2

This happens to me occasionally with my Garmin as well. If you physically connect it to your computer (like when you need to access Garmin Express if you want to add or update an app on your watch) you can import it directly to Garmin Connect. In Garmin Connect click the big white plus sign in the top right corner and select 'Import Data'. You can then hit Browse, or open your File Explorer to drag and drop, and browse to your watch (it should show up as a storage device on the left, see first image below). Open the GARMIN folder, then ACTIVITY, and then pick the most recently-dated file. If you are good with computers and this is an insult to your intelligence I humbly apologize!!! Lol. I only stress how to do this because one time this happened to me, and not even Strava caught it, and Strava is my life as well!

Yesterday was my third day in a row with no running. I did get off work at a decent time, briefly thought of running as soon as I got home but since work has made me neglect family as well as running, family got priority last night. I grilled up some steaks, made my seasoned potatoes and creamy broccoli and enjoyed hanging out at home.
Tonight after my son's basketball game I WILL be going out running! Something in the double digits I'm sure.
I haven't been able to keep up with posts much but I do love seeing the photos of everyone's running routes!1 -
2/1 - zumba
2/2 - 7 miles
2/3 - 6 miles
2/4 - zumba + strength training
2/5 - 9 miles long run
2/6 - rest
2/7 - 6 miles + strength training
2/8 - zumba + 7 min elliptical
2/9 - shoveling
Total: 28/116
So, I have come to terms with the fact that an outdoor run is just not going to happen today, lol. My office is closed, and we're expecting somewhere in the range of 8-12 inches of snow, when all is said and done. All I have are regular running shoes, lol. I had even asked around a little, to see if people thought Rockland Lake might get plowed this afternoon, and everyone was like, I doubt the roads will even be clear, much less the park. Ah, wishful thinking! So, I haven't shoveled yet, but I will be, and that will be cross-training for today. I'll shift my runs to Fri-Sun instead of Thurs, Fri, Sun, and will just keep Saturday's run extra easy, since I also do zumba that day, and have my long run on Sunday.1 -

I think Buffalo started at 7 when I ran it in 2015. It's a good course for a first marathon in that there are no major hills; but I didn't know the area, so it was mentally hard from about 21 miles one when it constantly looked like I should be turning that last corner to go down the hill Any Time Now. Of course, that corner doesn't happen till mile 25!
Niagara Falls International is on my wish list, if I manage to survive my next marathon without injury and want to keep running marathons. Right now, I've run races in 5 states; Niagara Falls would add a Canadian province to the list and let me call myself an international marathon runner.3 -

My next race is a 12K trail run on 4/1 with a 8:00 am start time; packet pickup is 6:30. It's a bit over 2 hours drive from here, and that isn't much for me to drive, but I'm not a morning person. I figure I'll head out around 5am to arrive shortly after 7am. If I have everything set out and ready to go, I can get up at 4:15-4:30 to shower and get some breakfast. I'm definitely going to bed early the night before...0 -

I can definitely see how the uphill to North Street coming down Richmond (~mile 24ish) would totally suck if you weren't familiar with the area.
