If my wife decided she wanted to run a 5K, I'd be willing an entire day just to get her there. She has NO interest at all in running.8

@mobycarp my first 5K was in West, Texas 11.5 hour drive, 749 miles...but I cannot lie, I flew. It was also 102F in the shade and it was basically over 1 mile out, around a few blocks and over a mile back. All you could see was the heat rising off the street. Best EVER water station handed out small sponges that were sitting in a bucket of ice water.2

I got my wife interested in running/jogging as a lifestyle change. She saw how I was dropping weight and decided to join me. She hated it at first, but she was soon jogging and walking almost 3 miles. I told her that was almost a 5k. Before too long she asked about running in a 5k race, so I got her a C25K app. We found a very small local race and ran it, I stayed with her throughout the race. She finished second in her age group and got a medal!
Since then we have run some bigger 5k Turkey Trot races, and we are signed up for her first 10k on July 4th. She's become a bit of a race shirt and swag snob, more than I was when I started running races!8 -
@skippygirlsmom I'm a tiny bit jealous... my community is definitely not a running community at all. This is why my races are 2 hours drive away and I never know anybody. It's alright, though... I usually prefer to run alone because I fear my pace and such would be a major drag on everyone. I have literally never run with a group, ever, except obviously at races.0
-
@skippygirlsmom When I saw Skip's promposal when you posted on FB, I got a chuckle. And I am sure you're right that I am missing 5 more races going on this weekend. lol
@MNLittleFinn That would be awesome if you could make a weekend out of it and go down the night before.
@MobyCarp Virg Beach is a nice destination race. I promised myself more destination races once I BQ. The furthest I gone so far for a race is Knoxville which is only a 3-1/2 hour drive from me.

I hate running. I hate the fact that I'm getting slower and slower. For god's sake I'm barely doing 14 minute miles and my heart rate won't go below 160
I hate the fact that i feel like crying when i run, that i just cant get it to WORK for me. Yeah i can put one foot in front of the other, yeah this time last year i couldn't even run a mile but it's all got me nowhere.
I made my goal for the month, but I've had enough. I'm not doing anymore 'training'. I'm not putting on a GPS watch to keep tabs on my heart rate which stubbornly stays high. I'm not watching my pace to keep it in a range. I'm going to go out, daily, run if i feel like it, walk if i don't. I'm going to choose a place to get to, and get to it.
There's no mileage goal, no achievements. Except being a grin back on my face when i run down a mountain.10 -
@MNLittleFinn That would be awesome if you could make a weekend out of it and go down the night before
I'll e able to get my run in around like 2-3pm possibly, and that might be a good thing, since it will be warmer then, and I'll get some heat conditioning in....LOL...heat conditioning in 60F weather that is...LOL

@girlinahat I think everyone has been there at one point or another. Running solely for a number isn't the best motivation for some people. Just run when you feel like it and do it because you enjoy it!3

I finished this month and accomplished my goal. On Monday, I'll be running with my running buddy again. I feel like I'm getting my groove back. I have to find a way to get my workout in while helping him build his base. I'm sensing two workouts until he's ready to do my hill workout with me.
@girlinahat I understand how you are feeling. I go with how I feel. I had low blood iron at the time and it was a big contributor to my high heart rate(think 200). Once I got all of that in check, I don't wear my HRM anymore. If I feel good, I get out there. I have learned when to slow down. I wish you good luck and a less frustrating experience.

I think I'll mark today as the most scatterbrained running day ever in my running diary!
I'll be travelling for work on Sunday, so I had decided to do Saturdays&Sundays runs on Friday&Saturday, instead of crosstraining on Friday. Of course, I only remembered that plan tonight after I'd already done the cycling and strength training...
So I decided to compromise and do half the planned distance, 8km instead of 16km. Started to run and was really bothered by how badly my tights fit. I have to admit, it took me almost one kilometre until I figured out that I had put it on back-to-front *facepalm*

@girlinahat In a slightly different place but also need to rediscover the fun. I reckon we should organise a UK MFP MRC meet up at a colour run. A few obstacles (maybe), a little running, lots of laughs, stupid amount of colour and an indeterminate amount of drinks afterwards.
i.e. http://thecolorrun.co.uk/events/ or http://www.colorobstaclerush.co.uk/locations--register.html
May even allow non-MRC (even non-MFP) friends to join?

Got in a quick little run this morning to finish off the month. I managed to hit my stretch goal (120) plus a little bit more. With that little bit extra it is my biggest month since January 2016! This run today also likely saved my job as I was able to keep my cool on a very stressful meeting call afterwards, where I really wanted to tell someone off. Wouldn't have been a wise move at all.
@iofred - Amazing running this month!
@ROBOTFOOD - I can't imagine running in that wind and sand... I have a bit of it here and the sand hurts when it hits you. Although you didn't mention it, I would imagine what you experienced was so much worse!
@JessicaMcB - I do the 'on your left' call out as well. Yes, it startles some people but I also see them startle when I run by if I don't say anything. I do try and call it when I am back far enough so they don't move in front of me though. I know for me I would love it if the cyclists would call out before they come flying up behind me especially when I am running with Hobbes the Vizsla who also startles when they go by. I always worry he will turn into them and if I knew they were coming I would pull him way to the side of the trail. I do try to keep to the left though with him as much as possible, so faster runners and cyclists can go by unimpeded and I can see who/what is coming toward me to move out of their way too. Fortunately where I run isn't terribly crowded and when it is I move out onto a service road.
@BeeerRunner - great pictures! Love the armadillo butt!
@jessicalferrara - I will check it out, Thanks!
@Stoshew71 and @skippygirlsmom - so jealous of all your races and fun running events. There are some here but definitely not like your area... Heck we don't even have a running store that I don't have a 45-60 minute drive to. Also I love the Promposals! Skippygirls is SO cute!
@girlinahat - We all go through periods of not feeling the best when we run, or like we aren't progressing, are digressing or just don't like running... I have definitely struggled since last fall, some of it due to injury, but a lot just because it felt terrible. I am finally back to where I can honestly say my runs have been great - or become great after the terrible first couple of miles... Hang in there! Going out just for the sake of getting out the door, enjoying being out and moving a bit is the right thing to do and if by chance you feel like running, well that would be awesome.
@7lenny7 and @NikolaosKey - ditto for me with my husband! He did start walking like @Bakins929's wife but I can't get him to walk faster even, let alone run.
@_nikkiwolf_ - I had to laugh at your post! I put mine on inside out once and couldn't figure out why I couldn't get my phone into the pocket... luckily I didn't make it out the door
I hope to see everyone over on the April Challenge!! I'm ready for Spring running!!

Finished off March with a treadmill run today and was just 2.1 miles short of my goal of 95 miles. I averaged 3 miles a day for the month, which is not bad, given that I took more rest days than expected.
I will head on over to the April thread and check in with a new goal there. Happy end of March to everyone. I personally am happy to see it go and hoping April will bring some real spring.3 -

@ctlaws44 Thanks man! I was relieved that my body could handle the increased training load pretty easily.
@garygse Sure was! Everyone in town was flipping out saying they are trapped in the stores/buildings and pulling their cars over on the road. I'm like "I was running mtns in this". Buncha weeinies.
@shanaber Oh yeah! Pretty much got sandblasted lol. Bit of a sting, but I was in the zone and the wind was really intense. Blowing me over and nearly pushing me off the switchbacks several times. Adrenaline was going. Rocks are also Volcanic and razor sharp. Not much room for error.

@midwesterner85 99% of the time I run alone, I might run with my daughter, but usually alone. More of our local running community know her because she loves to talk to everyone. It's great though to go to a race and see people you know, or even people you haven't seen since the race last year.0

Total: 108.59 miles
Notes:
I was really not looking forward to this run today, which was pretty apparent because I always run first thing in the morning but today I put it off until after work. It was cold and really windy (18+ mph, feels like 30*F) and I really did not want to get out there to run hard. I'm so glad I did though, because this run was SO great! One mile easy to warm up; four mile progression (8:56, 8:14, 7:52, 7:27); one mile to cool down. First two miles of the progression were directly into the wind which sucked, but at least I had the wind at my back for the last two miles! I felt so strong at the end of this run; it was a hard run but I finished the perfect amount of tired. I still can't believe how quickly I have progressed! I think at this point I may actually be stronger/faster than I was before my stress fracture Anyways, happy March everyone and I'll see you over in the April thread!
@_nikkiwolf_ too funny!! I definitely lol'd reading that

March was definitely a rebuilding month for me. I met my mileage goal, but more importantly I've continued to increase mileage and endurance while remaining injury free. Still a work in progress but things are definitely heading in the right direction.7 -
@girlinahat this may sound really stupid but I think that learning to run with joy is so much more important than the technical elements. You can develop skill over time without diminishing love- I hope your new plan brings you all the downhill mountain running you desire!
Rest Day today since my new road shoes had to be returned already (NOT impressed I wore out the Guide 10's in under a week). Excitedly following the Canadian Barkley feed and am rooting hard for/living vicariously through Gary Robbins! I think I might aim for a 42.2 training run tomorrow just because Barkley .
Hoping to see you all crushing your goals in April!
