Sadly I have no April Fools hilarity in me today because tired. Ran 42.2 training run in soldarity with Gary Robbins who is trying to bring Barkley home for Canada, haha I love the crazy of Barkley so much.
So on the positive side it was an easy-ish pace (save for a few steep hills and a 3km section of ice on trail), definitely wasn't racing it and clocked at 3:48:13. But here's the rub/what I could use input on- I feel like I could've actually made BQ pace today if I hadn't had to stop to use the bathroom EIGHT times! After 3 kids in 3 years my bladder is shot to hell but wtf do I do about that when it is obviously effecting my time? Depends time? ...Please don't say Depends time, I'm too young dammit
April 1- 42.2km
42.2/300km7 -
@JessicaMcB You ran a marathon all by yourself just because??? And in an awesome time too! Sorry, I have no advice about the bladder but I can sympathize as I have a weak bladder on runs sometimes but only if I stop or walk...so I just keep going and it goes away. Haven't had to stop to use a bathroom yet in a race. Hope your issues don't carry over during race time too! Also, thanks for mentioning the Barkley Marathons. I had no idea it was this weekend. I just watched the Netflix documentary again with my mom and stepdad a few weeks ago.1

@OSUbuckeye906 yeah the mood struck, I was feeling Barkley vibes and I just got new Kinvara 8's this morning (since the "replacement" offered to my husband on the Guide 10's I destroyed were POS New Balance shoes I hate). I figure if Gary Robbins can run presumably a hell of a lot faster than me for three days there is no reason I can't run for less than 4 hours
I didn't stop or walk but my bladder was BAD. I'm sure the woman at the Tags thinks there is something wrong with me lol. And TMI but I was taking 2:30 per bathroom stop basically (because wash your hands people, I don't want your plague ) and multiplied by 8 that's 20 minutes I lost! That's embarassing!1 -

Ditto that! Starting the month running marathon distance is a heck of a way to start.1 -
Thanks @ROBOTFOOD and @MNLittleFinn ! I know I need to have my ish together this month and train hard so I don't disappoint myself at Banff and so I have the hills base I need to survive CDR.
On another note Canadian Running Magazine is effing killing me lately. They just wrote an article about the top 15 trail races in the country- there are two ultras (Sinister 7 which is in our province and Squamish which is in BC) that look amazing but my husband will kill me. At least CDR was on the list I guess, haha!6 -
01 April – 5 km parkrun PB! 25:42
02 April – 21.2 km HM with no fuel – bad idea!
Total: 26.2 km
Goal: 200 km
Upcoming:
9 April- Run for the Kids Melbourne 14.6 km
6 May – Go the Extra Mile Melbourne 50 km walk/run
Set out on my run this morning, and I was on track for a HM PB at about 15 km, then hit the wall, and hadn't brought any fuel with me!! I'm an idiot! It was a real battle to continue! Oh, well, still finished it, albeit not a great time. Definitely a learning experience!5 -
@JessicaMcB we are always out harshest critics. I'm pretty well in awe of your running, so keep that in mind if you don't meet your goal, though I'm certain you will.0

Geeze! How do y'all have time for running AND typing this much?!
The 5k yesterday was good (no injuries, finished, friends, food, door prizes). The course was flat but was on a nature trail for 3 miles. The first .1 started on the road. There was mud in some spots but considering we got a HUGE thunderstorm the night before, it was in pretty good shape. I don't do any trail running so it was a nice change up for me. I own one pair of running shoes (Guide 10) which I love but now I'm probably going to have to get another pair. We'll see if they clean up. I want to eventually run a 5k in under 20 minutes but this was not the course to even attempt it. Plus it wasn't USATF certified.
I plan to run today with my friend that pushes me so we'll see how it goes. I set my goal for 200 miles this month since I don't have a race until the end of May and I want to build my endurance for a possible spur of the moment marathon. My running friends say they're just going to pick me up one day and we'll just do it. I don't know about all that. Maybe walk it.5 -
@HonuNui - I'm so sorry to hear about your child. I'll be praying for your child and family
@ROBOTFOOD -You've inspired me to bump up my mileage.
@MNLittleFinn _Great start to the month!
@KatieJane83 -Congrats on signing up for your first! I might be there one day.
@JohnRoderick-Welcome to a great knowledgeable group.

Way to go @JessicaMcB! Wish I had an answer on the bladder thing. Some days my bladder conspires against me too.0

April goal: Stay healthy, get my runs in and increase my long run distance
Nominal mileage goal: 191 miles
4/1- 15.23
4/2- 3.14
Total: 18.37
Today's notes: 3 miles at Easy pace, averaged 9:47, which was good enough, considering I'm still recovering from being sick, and yesterday's 15 miler. The BEST part of the run was that I had an Avg HR of 151, which was nice to see. Run cadence is staying nice and high at 188....having short legs means I need more steps to get the distance!
2017 Races
6/16- William A Irvin 5k
6/17- Grandma's Marathon (Full!)
8/19- Rampage at the Ridge 5k OCR
9/23- Ely Marathon (full)
10/??- TBD HM or Full????
11/23- TBD 5k Turkey Trot6 -

I'm just getting back into running, so I'm setting a modest goal of 5 k every second day for a total of 75 for the month.
April 2: 5k out of 75 completed.5 -

I think my half marathon might be off the table now. I went out for a planned 9 miler and ended up with 5 instead. My left hip flexor started tightening up in mile 4. I tried stretching it out but it only worked for a few minutes. This happened last week too during my long run. It doesn't hurt, it is just tight and uncomfortable. I am waiting for my trainer to get back to me to tell me what she thinks I need to do to fix it while I have time.
4-1 5 miles down - 75 to go.
March 11- St Malachi 2 miler (partial course preview for Cleveland Half) - DONE 25:36
May 21 - Cleveland Marathon Half
June 10 - Run and Ride Cedar Point 5k
June 11 - Run and Ride Cedar Point Half Marathon (Back up Plan) or Quarter Marathon
September 10 - River Run Half (maybe)
1 -
@kimlight2 - Hope that hip flexor gets straightened out easily. Maybe just some massage or foam rolling is in order?0

Oh mia bella Madonnina,
che te brillet de lontan,
tutta d'òra e piscinina,
ti te dòminet Milan;
(Good luck with Google translate)
Just 2 things
1) that *kitten* *kitten* of a *kitten* muscle made me mad today. Will book a surgeon, gp, whoever tomorrow
2) not tired at all, more than 70k steps so far and feeling super. Need prob blood tests to check my hormones
I ate and drunk like a pig, I'm really not used to run in Italy. Amsterdam 1 sip of water, Athens maybe half a bottle, today 6 bottles at least plus energy drinks etc, i had something at every food station. And peed only once just after the race.
What is really worrying is that I'm not hungry at all.
And just realised tomorrow i should have a rest day... Let's see.15 -
@honunui I'm sorry, my heart is breaking for you.0
-
4/1 - 0 track meet
4/2 - 3 miles
3 of 60 miles (I think I said 60)
My legs are tired. I spend every minute of Skip's track meets moving, taking pictures of the team, up the bleachers down the bleachers, running to catch someone jump, running back to catch her race ha ha. I also made the mistake of waiting until 11:00 to run and it was 70. But that's okay.
Momma brag time! Skip broke her 1600 PR again :-) down to 6:14, finished 6th and won her heat passing the girl in front of her coming down the front stretch. So proud. In the 3200 she was way ahead of her PR and she was holding her thigh and dropped out. We had no coach at the meet (don't get me started on THAT) so I went out on the infield and she said a pain ran her leg and her shin got a sharp pain. Ice and a hot bath later and today she said it feels fine. Kinda weird.7 -
OK, Came up with a goal for April. It matches pretty close to Mar. actual, but most of this should be in the first half of April. My estimate as of now, including yesterday's race total (included here) is that I need 64.8 miles by 4/14 to reach my fat loss goal. The last half of April is unknown based on fitness testing (doing Dexa, RMR, and VO2 max on 4/14). The last weekend of April is my birthday, and there will be no running. I'm going to eat that weekend, though.

No run today - but went out in the bike to exercise the quads. I think last year I only went out a couple of times on the bike - my housemate used it more than me so my plan for cross-training is to get out and use it more!!!
Plus it was sunny, an easy flat 13 mile ride.3 -
I am missing my run today.0

Hi fellow runners
April month opens for me too:
4/2: 13.1k -casual run-
Aim: 130k
Take care all
@HonuNui I am so sorry hearing such bad news4 -
I don't know why it cut off the rest of my post. I am missing my run because of thunderstorms. I plan to move my Sunday run to Monday this week. The weather shoukd be better tomorrow. I have been running 3 days a week since October when I did c25k. The recommendation was not to run on consecutive days. When do you know if you are ready to run consecutive days? I run on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. I don't really want to reschedule Tuesday run too.1
-
I hate it when the 1st is on the weekend - because it means I won't get my first run in until the 3rd or 4th!
I did have some awesome bike rides though. 44 miles Saturday at a fast pace and 40 today, same fast pace - 19-21mph.
No ticker yet. I wouldn't enjoy a ticker with 0 miles.
4/1 - 44 miles biking
4/2 - 40 miles biking
3 -
@patrikc333 Awesome medal and pic! Congrats!
@skippygirlsmom Congrats to Skip on her PR! Weird about the pain during her other race, but good to hear it's better.
4/1: 5.8 miles
4/2: 2.8 miles
TOTAL: 8.6/100 miles
Just a short run today - 2.8 miles in 25:38 (9:10 min/mile). A wee bit too fast, considering this was supposed to be somewhat of a recovery run after my "long" run yesterday. I blame the sunshine and the new music I added to my running playlist. I haven't had any sort of tempo run since I've started back up running and since this was a shorter run, I let myself go when I realized holding back was going to be a struggle anyway. I can tell my body is still not quite back to where it used to be cardio-wise because I could have run this distance faster pre-injury, but I can also tell there's been recent improvement.
In other exciting news, my marathon relay race is only 3 weeks from yesterday! My mom, two sisters, and I are running the Illinois Marathon as a relay and part of the course goes right through my sister's neighborhood. I designed a simple custom shirt for our team on spreadshirt.com. I've never used their site before, so hopefully they come out okay...guess we'll see. My original goal for this race was to be able to run my leg of the race (6.9 miles) without walking. I wasn't so sure I could do that a few weeks ago, but yesterday's run of 5.8 miles with only stopping at stoplights boosted my confidence a bit. This is just a fun thing for my family (we're definitely not going to be winning any awards and that's okay), but personally that's where I'd like to be in my training working toward an early summer half marathon.
