What nobody tells you about losing weight

The fact that no matter how much I lose, I still have a lingering fear this weight loss isn't real. Maybe it will come back tomorrow... I know it's not true, but it's hard to change your mental reality about yourself as quickly physical changes occur.
This is me so much. I look at the graph of the past year, which is maintenance for me and I wonder if I will be sustaining it long term.16 -
I didn't expect my hair to start growing like crazy and my elbows to get super soft. Yay for water and vegetables.
When I experience the slightest amount of stress, I realize I start thinking about going for a run. I thought people who ran when they were stressed was like a book and movie thing. My brain has been reprogrammed.
I didn't know I would be a person who strings elastic through my waist bands and sews it in just so I don't have to buy new pants yet.
I didn't know how disappointed I would be when the weight started falling off my boobs and butt instead of my thighs. Stubborn thighs...29 -
How differently people talk to you. Or people that never spoke to you once in your life are suddenly interested.
Changes in diet can do weird things to your body.
I would start feeling more comfortable with what outfits I wanted to try or wear. But there's also a lot of emotional days when I think I can't wear an outfit because I still have some work to do20 -

I love the way I look after losing 70 lbs, but I find that I'm 1000% more critical of my appearance now than I was before.29

Yup - me too. Maybe it's because I avoided mirrors and wore loose clothing by default before, but I'm definitely more judgemental of the little problem areas that remain after losing 35lb , than I was of the fluffy tyre that encompassed my midriff about a year ago9 -

I'm in bra purgatory right now...the sad excuse I had for a bust is gone. Finito. (Thighs? Hefty as ever). I'm too small for the adult bras you typically find on the rack, but not proportioned correctly for the juniors ones (a smudge too tall, maybe a quarter inch too big around to be comfortable). Ugh. I am short too--I would prefer not to start looking like a teenage boy in my jeans and tshirt.

After losing 150lbs...
1. A weight loss journey can turn in to a juggernaut
2. Exercise becomes addictive. Especially running
3. People's reactions are all different. Some genuine, some not
4. My *kitten* hurts from sitting on wooden chairs
5. Old clothes have great comedy value
6. Seat belts no longer worry me
7. My knee no longer clicks when I flex it and the numbness has gone from that leg
8. Calories are like money. Spend them wisely
9. Patience really does pay
10. Shirts look and feel better tucked in

Hey I had the drill in my hand with a bit in it. It may have taken 72 hours to find the nail set last used 25 years ago.3 -
Never ever thought the next thing you would be thinking about, and looking forward to doing is exercising. Then getting stressed out if a sudden change of plans kept you from exercising for the day. So you find yourself doing some sort of activity, whether jogging to the car, or running up the steps to have some sort of activity replacement.

I bought a leather punch set cheap on amazon and used it until too much belt on other side and had to buy a new belt11 -
That I would become obsessed with buying work out clothes now that I fit into much smaller sizes14

That you have to alter the misconceptions you had about yourself when you were overweight (sorry, read obese, BMI 46):
1) That you were "large framed". Nope, just fat. Really. It's amazing what fat can hide. I have discovered that I have a small frame. Had a discussion with my DH about this - I told him that I'd be a UK size 6 before I was done (currently a UK 10, pushing an 8) and he was really shocked. He was like "no way, you'll be skin and bone" but I won't. I still have lots of weight to lose so size 6, here I come. See? Small frame. Who knew??
2) I always thought that I was pear-shaped. Huge "child-bearing" hips. Nope, just fat. Now I've lost some weight I've found that I'm actually an apple who is struggling to shift the fat from around her midriff.
3) That you really couldn't do much exercise and that you aren't any good at it anyway (this from school). Nope, I do loads and LOVE IT. I may not be any good at cycling but I love it and get annoyed if I have to miss a day.
There are more. But I've droned on enough for now

How great a body shape I have! I always thought my body was ugly but now I'm seeing the hour glass figure I actually have. I love watching my curves become more defined. Very surprising.29

That you might start to feel smaller than you are. I've been struggling lately with still wanting to lose weight but not having the motivation I used to. I've lost over 70 lbs and now with about 30 left to lose I can't seem to get that motivation that I had...24

You are not alone! I lost 50lb about 20 more to lose (maybe a little more). I have maintained for a year because I have not been able to get motivated on counting again all the time. I'm trying to start again today! We can do it!!18 -

I'm in the same boat. I've lost 93 pounds and I feel like I'm content with the way I look in clothes now and feel great so the motivation to stay as strict as I was is gone even thought I want to lose about another 25-30 to get to my ultimate goal. I find myself getting motivated to push myself, but lose that motivation after a couple days. I'm not going back to my old ways, but doing more of a maintenance or super slow (as in .1) pounds per week loss.11 -
How freeing only having clothes that fit in your closet is. I did the try on and purge of clothes that are too big last week and it is so nice to be able to pull out something knowing you can wear it. Makes the mornings go smoother.
Although not perfect as I must of missed one pair of jeans as the ones I am wearing today are too big. Will need to mark them before I put them in the wash so they don't end up back in the closet.14 -

How much more critical you are of yourself...but in a more positive way. I'm happy with the way I look in every area except my stomach. I still have a bit of a belly and it's frustrating because I feel it stops me looking as slim as I feel.
How much more vain you become. I used to hate having my photo taken! Now I'm posting selfies on Facebook and Instagram! lol13
