Walked 6+ miles today with minimal hip discomfort. Tried running *very* briefly, only like two minutes, just as a quick test, and it still felt a bit stiff, so it looks like I'm still a couple days out from actual running. I did schedule a PCP appointment for next week, just in case it's still not cooperating by then.
Meanwhile, my meds are still being adjusted and tweaked. Adding one, tapering off another. I've had two relatively good days yesterday and today, so that's encouraging. I think I have maybe another week in the outpatient program before going back to work.
Today's NSV: I went shopping for a swimsuit today. The one I wound up buying was a size 10. I used to be a size 20. Talk about amazing.18 -

Well, this is embarrassing. I went to sign up for the HM I talked about earlier just to find out I was already registered. After a lot of digging, it looks like last September I signed up for the Heartland 39.3 Series (the day signups began) which is 3 HM's and this is #2 of those 3 runs. This means I did an unwitting DNS for the Rock the Parkway HM on 4/8...the same one my employer was mentioning a week ago...not that I wanted to do a HM that day but probably would have if I knew I had paid for it already. It also means I am signed up for the Running With The Cows HM on 5/13, which is technically a "down week". That is one of my favorite events too. Not sure what I am going to do in that case. I'll probably run it.
How in the world did I do this to myself?? I get injured, have lots of downtime, focus on "coming back" and COMPLETELY FORGET I had signed up for these events??? Is this my lesson for "signing up super early"? Have I missed any other runs???
I did some more digging and found I am also registered for the Hospital Hill HM on 6/3 already. That's cool. I had pretty much planned on doing that HM already, I just hadn't tried signing up for it yet. Now I don't have to.
So, has anyone else done this to themselves before, or am I the only person bone-headed enough to do this to themselves??4 -

@WhatMeRunning - Running with the cows is actually the event that started me on my journey to running my first half marathon. My boss is from Kansas and wanted to do it this year, and I was the only other "runner" she knew. (I was barely living through 5ks at the time.) She then fell off the wagon, but not before she got my best friend fired up about this half marathon idea. But, I am now doing the Mickelson half marathon in Deadwood, SD in June instead of going clear to KS. But, it looked like a pretty cool one!
I don't seem to forget that I signed up for the race- I do, however, not put the calendar pieces together when I sign up for the next one. Thus, how I have 3 fairly substantial length races (for me) within a month of each other.... oops3 -

Yippee - finally a good run! This week and last week work has been kicking me in the kitten and I've been in a bit of a funk. So today I packed my running gear and said that I was leaving work early to get a run in no matter what. Although I didn't get out as early as I planned, the weather was perfect and the sun was glorious. I ran a nice paved trail for two miles out and back. I would have been okay to go longer but I had to get groceries (fortunately the trail was right next to the grocery store parking lot) and get home to my poor neglected pup. It felt really good mentally and physically to get this run in!
Tomorrow promises to be nice in the morning so I will go out for my group long run. Meeting the April goal does not look good at this point, but hopefully I'll get on a much better streak starting now.6 -
No running today. Got up at the normal time, had a normal breakfast, grabbed a sandwich at Subway at the airport, and flew to Boston. Met my sister, picked up the packet, had dinner at Subway on Boylston Street. Was feeling awful, but dinner picked me up a bit. Got the food entered into my tracker, and found I was 700 calories below target for the day. Well! Got that corrected, and I'm feeling a bit better before I turn in for the night.
Tomorrow I'll see what opportunities there are for an easy 30 minute run in the morning. Sunday, it will be less time than that on the last 2 miles of the course.
Gotta love Boston on Patriots' Day weekend. My sister and I keep thinking we see someone we know, then they turn and it isn't. It's just a similarity in coloration and features, coupled with being built like a runner. And maybe wearing a Boston Celebration jacket from a past year that the runner I know ran Boston.8 -
@MNLittleFinn I really doubt you are slow but they do always say slow and steady wins the race!! I've always been so drawn to ultra marathoners, so I think that's really cool!1

The real reason I'm going for an ultra is because they've been described as an eating and drinking contest with some cardio mixed in....5 -

I have to be at work, but that's why I have a smart phone, right? I've got a friend from work who's also doing it, so I need all y'all's digits (or whatever).5

@9voice9 I lived in Perry GA for a year last year (worked in Butler GA building one of the solar farms) !! In fact all three of the races I have done in my life were near there! It's so cool to see familiar town names.1

After missing my goal 3 months in a row, I finally achieved (bested) my goal last month, having run 61.43 miles. This month my goal will be 50 miles.
My husband and I planned a trip to Nashville at the end of the month. We will probably be walking a lot. My husband doesn't share my love for running.
4/14.....8 miles on the Monon. It was raining hard when I left home and I started driving toward the gym. On the way, the rain stopped. So decided to drive to the trail instead. (Indiana weather??) I started running and was pretty relaxed most of the way....so happy to be running outdoors instead of on the treadmill. My plan was for 6 miles but ran 8 instead. I am hoping that running 8 miles will feel as easy as running 6 does now. It was better today than usual but still rather tired. Not feeling that sore, which is a plus. Average max heart rate 86%. pace was 12:45 minute miles.
Heart rate monitor stopped working after 6.5 miles. The new one arrived a couple of days ago...haven't set it up yet.
I was thinking about the Boston marathoners on my route. They will be running 3 x farther than I did today.....blows my mind. A marathon is so much tougher than a half!

@WhatMeRunning Hahaha, yes, one of my parkrun friends discovered the other day she'd double-booked herself into two runs in separate far-apart places on May 21.
She was fine about it since the one she won't do is only a short run, the proceeds of which go to the RSPCA.2 -

This spring is shaping up to be rather interesting at work.
Firstly they offer a "Healthy Living Discount" on insurance costs if you meet criteria for doing healthy activities, one of which is a "Get Fit" program that records activity minutes over a 6 week period during which anyone who records over 900 minutes of activity earns half of the points needed to get the full discount for next years insurance. They also sent a discount for a 10k/HM event that weekend but I had a 10 miler planned for that day and was not willing to change it to either a 10k or HM so I passed on that discount offer.
Then today an email was sent to the folks signed up on that HM program offering a 25% discount to next weekends Garmin Oz Runs here in Kansas (Olathe to be exact), which is a 10k/HM/Full event. They were mostly talking about the 10k as a training run, but I have a scheduled 12 mile run planned for that day so I decided to go ahead and sign up for the HM. I will need to run it nice and slow though as that is the first long run of a new base building cycle with increased mileage. Still though, I'm a bit stoked as I had not planned on running any events at all for a couple more months (at least).
If they keep sending offers like this, with the option to run with fellow coworkers, it could turn into a much busier race season than I expected!
Thanks for posting this. My employer is going to pay the entrance fee for the 5 K/ half marathon at Geist Reservoir this year. It is so tempting to sign up because I have never run it and the course should be beautiful and it would be free. However it is 2 weeks after the Indy Mini, which I have already signed up for and paid and am currently training to run in. Would I be able to run another half so soon or would I be crazy to try?0 -

Keep that tweaking going on to sort your meds - do you have regular check-ups once you leave this set of outpatient work?

Made it to Boston yesterday. So far it has been everything I imagined and more. The expo was amazing. I got my number and my jacket! Spent lots of money on miscellaneous bling. You just get so caught up. I also might have cried a little while watching the preview of the course, but don't tell anyone. My bib number is 19738 if anyone wants to stalk me on Monday. I am still worried about aDNF as my hamstrings are still giving me fits. I hope I don't let anyone down. Knowing that I have followers might help push me through.
@MobyCarp -I will PM you my cell number. I certainly don't want to intrude on your plans, but maybe if we are in the same place at the same time it would be great to meet you in real life!6 -
Definitely loving the collecting of bib numbers for Boston. Isn't it wild how we can get so excited for something we aren't even running? Wishing you all the best!
@ereck44 - That pretty much depends on a variety of things. Is this going to be your first time at that distance at the Indy Mini? What is your longest run so far and how many times have you run that distance? If this is your first half and you have only built up to 10-12 miles on just a few runs then it is probably too soon to attempt another half two weeks later. You will need those two weeks as a recovery period and can even reverse taper to get back to shape, but at that two week mark it might not be the wisest to do another HM right at that moment. However, if you feel like your training has been going really well, you feel good during your recovery and think you have bounced back to full shape in that two weeks then you can definitely do it. If you have run HM's before and especially if you have regularly been doing 10-12 mile long runs then you should also be able to do it provided you do sensible runs in between events to recover and keep from losing fitness. For point of reference, after about 18 months into running I was up around 40 mpw and doing great. I ran 5 HM's on 5 consecutive weekends with no issues, I just kept my weekly training plan going for 5 weeks with the HM's as my long runs. I even ran fast at a couple of them, but none of them were "raced".WhatMeRunning wrote: »Well, I already set up my Runalyze account. Yes, I will be seeing my psychiatrist and therapist regularly after being discharged. I am in good hands.2 -
I just had an intervention with myself and came to a realization..... I now have accepted that I'll almost certainly never be fast enough to BQ, and I now realize that my relentless push toward ultra is a way for me to compensate for that...... I may always be slow, but if I can go slow for a LONG way, I can be OK with it........
........LOL, Saturday morning thoughts...... this is the problem with getting my LR done on Friday, and not getting a run in yet today.6 -
Did a VO2 max test yesterday, so I'm adding 1 mile for the treadmill. My knee still bothers me, so I am trying to get an appt. with the dr. It's been a month now and hasn't been getting any better on its own.

@WickAndArtoo Yes it counts, you ran you placed. If the other AG's decided to stay home it's their loss. When the local AG speeders show up I am in the back half of the AG, when they stay home 2nd or 3rd.
@MNLittleFinn If your slow I am a Turtle and I don't go long, mid distance yes and I like Rock Pile trail runs. A big yes to a eating and drinking contest with some cardio mixed in.
@WhatMeRunning I have a 10k on Saturday May 27 (250km travel one way) and a HM on Sunday May 28 (500km travel one way) - nothing like double booking a weekend and involving lots of travel - probably need to take a Vac day for Monday. 10k it's a normal pre-HM taper- right?
