I hope everyone who celebrates Easter has a wonderful one...The weather will be stellar today..
Tal will be going home in a few hours...And then I will try and talk with Tom...
I have finally gotten to a point where I will no longer tolerate verbal or emotional abuse and will tell him so.
Will call lawyer next week and have him served just trying to figure out before or after his trip to Florida.7 -
Alison, Congrats to you on your brave decision. I stayed in a bad marriage a lot longer than I should have but when it was finally over, I knew that I had tried everything humanly (and divinely) possible to make it work. I left with no regrets, just sadness for the loss of the dreams I had about having a great marriage.3

Happy Easter, Happy Day Before Taxes are Due, Happy Spring to everyone!
Lisa, I wanted to mention - I was thrilled that you and Corey were able to get away and have that great "planning talk" about your future. So many things are falling into place for you with the new job. So neat to be able to work toward a wonderful goal like that - the stars will line up for you.
Heather, sorry to hear about your hips - hopefully that turmeric is doing the trick, please keep us posted. Mine "twang" now and then as well and my tummy cannot tolerate NSAIDs anymore.
Love all the baby pix, gals, keep them coming. Fun to see how quickly they grow!
Yesterday was a busy day around here.... and I kicked into high gear lugging buckets/bags of dirt around, rearranging the potting shed a bit. Got half the tomatoes "potted up" and will finish the rest when it warms up later this morning. It's supposed to reach near 70 today so all the plant babies will be very happy.
And, I managed to get in over 12,000 steps, haven't done that in a while. My knee was complaining a little but I told it to hush, it could be worse and put heat on it and it's feeling good.
OK, time to "walk the streets" on this chilly morning. Maybe I'll spy the Easter Bunny!

Quick note before I forget...just watched last week's CBS Sunday Morning and a featured story was about the world's seed bank which is in Slavbad, Norway, home to our beloved Penny. I don't recall her mentioning it, although my memory fails me at times. There is a book, "Seeds on Ice" about it.

Love all of the baby pictures. Every one of them is as cute as can be.
Lisa: What a great plan to make your dream come true.
Sharon: Finding deductions is the bane of my existence. My DH keeps muttering about why the really wealthy can find enough deductions to pay relatively little in the way of taxes, while the rest continue to be bled dry like turnips. I do our taxes and he seems to think I should be able to pull deductions out of the air. I just smile and remind him that the year we had an accountant do our French and US taxes, she charged us a ton of money, I did all the grunt work, and she did not find any more deductions than I do.
Chris in MA: Congratulations on reach the maintenance stage; those extra calories will no doubt taste really good!3 -
Lenore: DD has put her phone into rice on her dad's advice. We didn't tell her about the sim card because we didn't know about it. I'll send her a message and let her know about it. Thanks!
Heather: If watching the cricket game is not interesting, watching the crowd might be. The other possibility is taking along a book to read if things seem "slow." DH and I both take turmeric capsules. They seem to have a very positive impact. :flowerforyou:
Sharon in Alberta: Happy Easter back-atcha.
Pamfgill: We have two sets of pots & pans. One set is stainless and we've had it for decades. The other is cast iron. We've had some of those pieces a long while, and have added to the collection by picking ups a few new pans and getting a few at the senior center thrift shop. We have a slow cooker, but prefer cast iron for cooking things slowly in most cases. We had a nasty experience with our old slow cooker and ended up with food poisoning. We replaced the old slow cooker but seldom use the new one. :noway: . I love the picture of you and your dad.
Margaret: Thank you for your prayers. I think the distinction between praying for someone and praying over them is an important one. Sometimes being told that a person is praying for me feels like a not very subtle form of criticism. :flowerforyou:
Allison: (((HUGS)))
Happy Easter for all who celebrate! Tax day is tomorrow and we turned ours in to the accountant weeks ago. He may be filing for extensions for many of his clients this year, including us, because he had too many clients who turned their stuff in later than they should have. :ohwell:

Hi again my friends!
I'm back from the cricket and having a quiet moment. I actually did enjoy it. I do understand most of the rules because I played cricket at school, but it baffles a lot of people. I loved looking around the ground, which is a new Test Cricket quality ground (i. e. International ). People watching and looking at the food facilities etc was fun. DH is a member, so we went in the Members' Lounge and had a beer. We had a walk around the grounds at lunch time.
Here I am with the pavilion behind me. Note the sunglasses and the padded coat!
This one is of the match. The hotel behind with the balconies is where we might stay occasionally when we move to Hove. It has a spa and a nice restaurant. DH's cricket friend often stays there with his wife as he lives in London and we go out for a meal with them. We will do that next weekend.
So now all I've got to do is put the chicken and veggies in the oven and pick DH up at 6.15. Bliss!

Yep, I'm alive.
We had a nice visit from son and grandkids and accomplished several of the things we intended, despite my bad back, which is unfortunately very painful. I already had an appointment with the local orthopedics specialist for something else on Tuesday so I'm going to ask what I should do. He'll probably send me to the physiotherapist.
I'll get back with some photos from the grandkids' visit in a while. Must consolidate them first.
Chris in MA - Yes, the global seed vault is about a mile from my house. I don't often mention it because although it's a huge tourist attraction, it isn't much to see, to be honest.
Anybody who's interested in my hometown can look at this webcamera longyearbyen.kystnor.no/. I've posted the link before, but that was some time ago. Don't worry what time of day it is. It won't get dark again until mid-September!
Here's my contribution to the sibling photos. Me on the right and my charming middle sister on the left. Our bright little sister is still a few years in the future.
Progress on goals for April:
500 g veggies on 15 days - Falling down on this job! (ø ø ø ø o o o o o o o o o o o)
Jog a total of 100 km - Still hampered by backache (3.7/100: o o o o o o o o o o)
Be lighter at the end of the month - Doing okay, down 0.4 kg so far

I'll have to see if I can find the program, but yes Penney had told us about the seed bank. I believe she even included a picture once. Thanks so much for sharing.

Penny - I well remember your husband and you taking us up to the seed bank. You're right, there's nothing to see except for a door. But it does have a nice view from the car park!
Forgot to mention that my sweet DH bought me two books for my Easter present. One was a book about the Soviet history of the Baltic states (Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia) and the other was a detective thriller set in the Baltics. Can you guess where we are going on our cruise in August?
I had a lovely day and the chicken is almost cooked.

Heather: Thanks for the picture of the cricket stadium. It looks huge to me! I thought it would be more like a baseball field than it is. You look fabulous!
Mary: I love the Maxine cartoon. I have had issues with putting things is a "safe place" and discovering that they were entirely safe from me. :grumble:
Ginger: Will you be able to find a local EDA (electronic devices anonymous) support group?
It is a quiet day here and I miss my kids and grandkids who are all far away from us and from one another.

Hi All -
I purchased a bottle tree 2 years ago at a craft fair. I have been working off and on at glass for the branches. Can't just use actual bottles you know. I thought I would share it with you. Its still a work in progress as I would like to change out some of the earlier ornaments for different colors, but overall I'm pleased with it.

Mia - Gorgeous! :flowerforyou: Glass is a passion of mine, along with ceramics.
Well, I have to say my roast chicken and veggies was ORGASMIC! Oooouuufff! Breathe out! It arrived on our tv trays a bit later than envisaged, but the fennel and parsnips sent me to heaven. Plus onion, sweet potato, carrots.
Lanette - I think you asked how I got my love for food. Long story, but it began in uni when I shared an apartment with a very good cook. I used to read Elizabeth David for bedtime reading. (A wonderful cookbook writer in the 50s, 60s) Then we moved to London and my brother in law, who we shared a house with, was a real foodie. This was in the early 70s. I learnt so much from him, including Indian cooking. He was personal friends with some excellent cooks. From then it was a personal passion, which was a major part of my life. A lot of reading, experimenting etc. Now I count myself lucky because I can eat deliciously while not busting the calories. I am very, very fussy about what I eat. No junk around here!

Hi, I grew up with a very basic American food upbringing, sadly canned and frozen veggies and tuna casseroles were standard fare. it wasn't until college my food horizons expanded when I lived with wonderful cooks from England, India and Malaysia, I learned to cook and love varied food with lots of spices and vegetables. So glad I did!

Hi everyone! Happy Easter!!! After church, I convinced my 23 year old daughter to go to Urgent Care (thought she was going to hack up a lung during church!) - diagnosed with Bronchitis and a sinus infection. So I thought I was going to be alone for most of the day (with her being scheduled to work) but instead I'm playing nurse. lol Talked to my younger daughter (at Ole Miss) and it made me cry...but I know she's happy, so that makes me happy. She's cooking her boyfriend and a bunch of friends Easter dinner, so was asking for advice. :-) I didn't plan on making Easter dinner, since I was going to be home alone - but I sat down and ate 3/4 bag of peanut m&ms (protein???) watching the Tigers game and now I'm mad at myself. Oh well - there are much worse things. Have a great day, everyone!!! Hug your loved ones!!!

Hey everyone, I had an interesting couple of days. Last Thursday DH and I were supposed to take a leisurely drive to a spa retreat. Then we found out that our daughter needed to go to Montreal that day so that was an hour each way but we are parents and we are there to help our children. So Wednesday night we have our plans set to drive her the next day and then she will take the train back to where she lives. All seems ok until I get hit with a very sudden and painful UTI. I am up all night. So now DH has to drive my daughter alone and I have to go to the clinic. Well if you are going to be sick at least it was in an amazing place.
So the spa is deep in nature, hidden in the woods on a lake. All your meals are provided and they are vegetarian and extremely healthy. They accommodate other diets as well. You get elixirs in the morning and afternoon, after breakfast you can do yoga and then have spa treatments as you like. There are indoor and outdoor hot tubs and saunas, good hiking trails and a lot of other stress relieving activities. They also offer discussion groups at night with an expert. The topic for Friday/Saturday was happiness and this was just perfect for me.
I was basically unplugged since Thursday night and I loved it. This was truly a life changing experience for me. Now I have to think about how to integrate the positive stuff I learned there into my busy life.
P.S. I never drank so much herbal tea in my life lol!
Love to all!

Hello. I'm a grandma, 56 yo, 5 grandkids, and struggling with COPD as well as other medical issues.
This month, April 2017, I'm working toward being more active. When I was on the scale at my Pulmonary Doctor's office, I did not like what I saw. So my journey began. I put one foot in front of the other and went to PR once a week (have COPD & should go twice a week. That's another goal). Also doing what I can to walk more, & use my dumbbell exercises at home too.
1/2 the month done and I've lost 2.8 lbs
Yippy skippy!
My journey isn't over, but wanted to share my success. This week I'm adding more fresh fruit and vegetables to my diet. We'll see if I can add a few more lbs LOST by end of month.
I am bound & determined NOT to be who I was before. If I can quit smoking (did that on 2/9/2015), then I can lose weight too.

Here's the message today
That seed bank in Norway is such a great idea. Seems like a lot of the "old" varieties of seeds have gone by the wayside or have been hybridized - I sometimes get seeds from "Seed Savers" where home breeders have kept Grandma's squash and beans going for years.
I didn't see the Easter Bunny today - Mr. Bunny was chasing Miss Bunny around the lawn yesterday. DH is like Elmer Fudd - he grabs the pellet gun every time he sees a bunny. Over the years their relatives have attempted to destroyed our garden, fruit trees (they like to nibble the bark off those $25 trees we just planted from the nursery - we learned the hard way to put trunk guards on them plus spray them with "Liquid Fence").
DH let Sophie chase the bunnies which was fun for her. I could tell he was itching to take a shot of them but they were sitting safely in the neighbor's front lawn. Pesky wabbits. They are cute tho!
We used to do an Easter meal and hide little treats for the dogs but that's fallen by the wayside.
Last night we finished watching the latest season of "Death in Paradise" and we now have "Shetland" queued up- it's based on Anne Cleeves books. I've always been intrigued by the Shetland Islands - we raised Shetland Sheep when we had the farm so I'm hoping to see some of the "peerie beasties" on those windy hills.
Sarah - sorry you got hit with the UTI and hope that's better now. I bought something over the counter which takes care of the burning and need to constantly "tinkle" until I can get antibiotics and used to keep it at work. Thankfully I'm past that stage and hope it stays that way.
That retreat sounds marvelous - wow!!! I felt more relaxed just reading your description of it. So glad you were able to spend some time there!
You exotic cooks make me want to try out some new recipes. I grew up with fresh, nutritious home-cooked meals but my relatives thought garlic was a bit too exotic and most of them still do. So I married an Italian and got to eat at a lot of international type restaurants when we worked in Seattle. Also got well-acquainted with seafood which I love when I worked in that industry. Mom would make tuna salad a lot or salmon patties, but we never had anything fresh.
OK ladies, have a great week!!!

Mia: Your artwork is glorious and lifts my spirits!
Becca: Happy Easter! :flowerforyou:
Karen: Poor Easter Bunny!
GrandmaM: Welcome to a great group of supportive women.
Lanette: No bunnies around here. I don't think they'd stand a chance against the predators in our neighborhood. Thankfully, I haven't seen any raccoon signs at all. We had a neighbor who fed them along with feral cats. I think she did a lot to attract both the cats and raccoons into our area, and then we had to deal with the consequences. This woman has moved away and the cats have gone with her. There is one yellow tiger cat that is feral and still lives here, but he's the only one. I see the former neighbor once in a while at the grocery store.
I got a call from my son today and enjoyed the conversation. He's planning to come for a visit here, but isn't sure when. We bought a new mattress so he'd be comfortable and we're ready to be hosts any time he can come.
