Yesterday was a trip to San Francisco with the camp staff at the Outdoor Education camp, where I am the gardener. It was to the Academy of Science, which has a ton of displays and great stuff, my favorites are an aquarium area and a 3 story rain forest – the rain forest has free flying birds/bugs and thousands of butterflies… I took a “ton” of pictures and plan on looking them over and picking out the best today, I’ll try to get them in a format to share some with you all.

Hi all,
Kids in bed. Last stories from DH. Salmon for dinner. It was a bit of a farce putting up the blackout plastic, but we managed it.
Let's hope they drop off quickly. They are usually excellent sleepers. Going to put the salmon in the oven.
Max is reading a hook I bought for him called "See inside your head" . He loves it. We were talking about brain diseases today as the book has quite a few. Do we have a future doctor in the house? His favourite was the man with a pole through his brain!
They are still chattering up there.
I feel very blessed.

Just popping on for a quick read while the kids nap. Took another walk today, but used the stroller, as I had only six kids and only two "riders". So...while I am still sore from pulling the wagon, pushing the stroller is much easier on my body, so I don't think I have done any more damage to my muscles.
Heather- LOVE love LOVE the pic of dh and the grands. We play with cars that way, here, too! I have a couple of long wallpaper tubes and mailing tubes that the boys set up in the room. Another thing they like to do is this: We tape a segment of a drinking straw to the back of an army guy or one of those mini action figures (the little three or four inch sized ones) and we create "ziplines". We attach the top of the string to the wall or to the curtain rod and then stretch the string taut and secure it to the floor with tape or a shoe. The kids run their "guy" to the top of the zipline and let go! They like to set up two or three lines, side by side and have races. Good stuff for a rainy day! We have also taped the straw segment to the bottom of the army guys feet THEN blown up a balloon and taped it to the bottom of the straw segment. Keep the opening of the balloon pinched with your fingers until you get your guy to the top of the zipline and then let the balloon go! Fun to watch those little army guys go racing!4 -

8. Declutter: Electronics, Craft Supplies, Pantry, ✔Fridge, Cooking and Baking, Dishes and Serving, ✔Linen Closet, Laundry Closet, ✔Medicine Cabinets, ✔Personal Care.
✔9. Digital Detox. Track daily usage.
Carbs. Not a great day. Many more late night carbs from a cookie and chocolate candy fest that didn't get tracked. Binge night. Working on taxes and wishing I'd done it sooner. Need to finish it today. Lots of medical expenses to deduct this year - making it worth the work. Weighed again this morning. Up another 1.6 lbs. Ugh!
Digital Detox. Much better than yesterday.
• iPad usage: 2H 21M, 7 pickups. Longest times: 12:20@46M, 6:25@50M. (Income tax return prep)
• iPhone usage: 4H 11M, 21 pickups. Longest times: 3:06@60M, 5:09@45M.
• Kindle usage: all night. 3am to 10:30am. This morning I found a way to track usage using parental controls. So I'll set those settings today.
I'm not sure where I'm going with the digital detox. I use technology a lot throughout my day. It's useful and necessary for my well-being.
1. Facebook. I use 2 FB group as motivation for cleaning and decluttering. Though I have several more of these groups. 12 art groups. 5 food/diet groups. 5 family/community groups. I count 36 FB groups. I'll be deleting a few.
2. MyFitnessPal - tracking daily and this forum for support and accountability.
3. Fitbit - tracking steps.
4. CareZone app for managing healthcare for our family.
5. Messages. Group chat w/my 3 sisters throughout the day. Support.❤️
6. Notes. Heavy use. Currently storing 45 notes. Need to declutter.
7. Email. Obviously. But - I don't spend lots of time reading email. I make a quick run through each morning and clear it all.
8. Banking apps. As needed on Wednesdays and Fridays... my desk work days.
My goal with this detox is to step away from it and spend more time with my mother - engaging in other activities. I find myself sitting on the sofa - in front of the tv - zoned out. Half listening to tv and sucked into FB. Tearing myself away to spend time with her. I don't like that feeling. So... I think rather than prying myself away from devices - I need to get a project going with Mama. We have our family reunion coming up and we like to make things to sell in the auction. Baskets, jewelry, photo books, mosaics. And... perhaps I'll set aside specific times for device tasks. Hmmm... something to think about. I need to go back to my detox plan. It was a good plan - I'm just not working it. So maybe I've used this time to explore my usage and connected feelings. I may be overthinking this. ;-)

Ginger - I have to say, whatever you are doing is not working. You need to take a long hard look at why you need to do all this. Happiness does not come from the Internet, apart from this group, of course.
The simpler life is, the happier it is. I have just a few FB friends, hardly any who post much. I don't do blogs. Instagram, Twitter, Lists, spreadsheets, or anything else. This group is all I do. Even then, people think I am obsessed with MFP. !!! I probably am.
Ask yourself what you are running away from. What you are afraid of.
I speak as someone who has had loads and loads of therapy in the past. Masses of personal growth courses etc. I think I am at peace now., but I still like my 'improving' books. Yes, it is an addiction, but I can live with that and laugh at it. Basically, stop pedalling and breathe. Ditch the spreadsheets etc. Life is simple. Just do what is true to your heart.

Somehow, 3 lbs crept up on me over night. Could have been the sleeve of crackers I ate before bed. Yes, I am one of those who loves crunchy, salty things. Also, ate two large slices of pizza over the weekend. Back to tracking!
One good thing I did for the first time today. We went to our favorite seafood restaurant and I asked for a to-go box before I started eating. Put 3/4 of my fish and 1/2 the baked potato into the box. I resisted the cream cheese stuffed bread but did eat the hush puppies. Now hoping I can stay away from carbs for the rest of the day.

Oooh had the best soup ever!!!!
2 oz hillshire farms turkey kelbasa cubed
1/4 cup of: leftover rice a roni fried rice
Canned green beans
Pinto beans
Canned corn
Tossed it all with a tablespoon of bacon drippings, 2 cups of water with 1 tsp of chicken bouillon paste, spices and let simmer!
Rest of the day I am happy belly!

Thanks Heather. I'm asking myself those questions. I don't think I'm afraid of anything. Or at least I don't feel I am. I think I feel a bit overwhelmed with responsibilities. And when I feel overwhelmed - I procrastinate. (Running away.) Which of course... leads to more stress.
People do things for a pay-off of some kind. So... I suppose my pay-off for spending time on these devices is having a distraction from my list of unfinished business.
The main thing I'm overwhelmed with currently is taking care of my father's personal affairs. I have a few tasks that seem to be taking forever. My sister will help me with these things this week. I also feel lots of guilt for not seeing him more. He's 54 miles from me. But I'd love to see him weekly or every two weeks. I need to make up my mind to do it. I was seeing him weekly when I was going to PT. Up, dressed and out of the house. I'm rarely up and dressed earlier than noon these days.
I worry about keeping my mom (90) engaged during the day because she sleeps a lot during the day. We all seem to have days/nights mixed up. Maybe I should set an alarm and get up and dressed earlier.
• I plan to cut out much of the FB groups. I deleted some today. And I've been unfollowing pages that show up in my feed.
• I deleted lots of my notes. I keep a standard "To Do" list, a weekly plan list, MFP accountability draft posting, grocery shopping list. The others can most likely all be deleted. Some were quotes or little reminder notes.
• I've stepped away from the spreadsheets. I keep one for Dad's affairs - and it gets updated monthly.
• I track my progress to goals in my paper bullet journal. A nightly run through of my day.
So... I think I'll
• Wake up earlier and get dressed. I always have more energy when I'm dressed. Signals work mode... not lounge on the sofa mode.
• Work on Dad's affairs this week. Reduce my anxiety about this unfinished business.
• Visit Dad at least every two weeks on Thursdays.
• Quit worrying about detoxing digital devices. And focus on where I want to spend my time.
• Get back to my daily routines. Those work when I stick with them.
• Play more with my arts and crafts.
I'm still working through it. But feeling better about it.

Becca, the way you have raised your boys, they will never leave you. You will still be parenting, it's jsut that they may not know it. You and your husband still have so much to give, especially how to spontanously love each other, you would be great in the Big brother, Big sister program. Or maybe an exchange student.
Well the painting started today. Now we have several shades of grey and red since he has painted the dark grey so that the contractor can put the gutters in. Totally looks strange now.
Charlie had his appointment with cardiologist today. He doesn't have to see him now for 2 years since he also sees another cardiologist for his rhythm every year. he did talk to him about his weight.
Meg, yes I have seen the reports. We even have a program at our Y for boxing for Parkinson's. He won't ride a bike, participate in anything that has other people he has to interact with. That's just my man.

Ginger, I think your taking personal inventory in response to Heather's suggestions is awesome. You are on your way. I tend to be somewhat obsessive and a creature of ritual and habit. These things are good in moderation but when they began to take over my life, I had to take a long hard look. I carry a pedometer but no longer post my steps in three different places. I read this thread for motivation (usually while I eat my breakfast, which is exactly the same every day) but stopped posting on three other threads or searching for someone else to reply to on MFP. I keep track of what I spend but enter the data in QuickBooks only twice a month and don't obsess on whether I have created all the necessary categories. I have a "uniform" for what I wear so I don't have to think about clothing I have a limited number of foods that I buy so grocery lists are easier and meal preparation is simple and requires almost no decision making. I've made these decisions for myself in light of my desire to be more healthy. Someone wise said that "working is a great way to procrastinate". When I was teaching, I used to do a lot of house cleaning when I should have been writing report cards. The house cleaning allowed me to believe that I was doing something good, when in fact, all I was doing was avoiding doing what needed to be done.

Husband and I drove around, and went to our lookout to watch the water of the Columbia River as it travels past us into Young's Bay where Astoria is.... He asked me if everything is OK. He remembers how disconnected we were, so we keep mindful and never leave anything unsaid.
Ginger in Texas. You are doing a great job caring for your parents. You organize, make lists, etc. Maybe because that is the only thing you have control over. Don't feel guilty over how many times you are able to visit with your father. You are doing the best you can. You are caring for your Mom, so you are kind of in the middle, commitment wise.
Some people procrastinate because they need to do things a certain way, and if that can't be done, they would rather not start the task, then do it wrong. Maybe looking at tasks more simply might help you complete them. Or let go of tasks that are mentally on your B list. Hugs!!!!!!!

Hello all: The sun is shining presently but we had a thunder storm earlier. Horses are fed but not as much as DD and I are going to a meeting on using natural remedies for moss, moles, weeds, etc. So we will feed them for the evening early and it needs to last them the night. We had six for Easter and did very well on food. Had a small amount of candy around and only a few leftovers.
Question: I saw an article recently that said that an hour of exercise per day helped with the symptoms of IBS. They quoted two small studies. Has anyone else seen anything on this? It intrigues me.

Ginger in TX: I'm so happy that you've put together a plan for the next while. It seems like a good one to me. Good luck with all of your responsibilities.
Barbie: When I was teaching I learned to get there early and do all of my grading and class set up before class began. I didn't take grading or worries home with me if it could be helped. It took me a long while to get into the groove, but it was very good for me. It began as a strategy for dealing with a long and nasty commute. I travelled ahead of the rush in the morning so I was there a couple of hours early. I got a lot of quiet time in my room to get things done. I left right after the kids did at the end of the day. I didn't work fewer hours than any of the other teachers after taking grading and so forth into account, but I got it done in a way that helped reduce commute stress & left me personal time with my family at the end of the day. :bigsmile:
Our house faces north and the entrance is shaded much of the time. We had quite a bit of green slime everywhere on the exterior that is in the shady zone. I squirted some stuff called 30 seconds outdoor cleaner that I bought at Ace Hardware on the green slime where I could reach it, let it set the recommended amount of time and rinsed it off. I got rid of quite a bit of green slime, but not enough that I felt good about it. I reapplied in the worst spots & waited again. I just went out to take another look and it looks quite a bit better! I am glad I looked again because I know my time wasn't wasted. Our house isn't due for fresh paint until next year. :grumble:

KimK in GA. My father had Lewy Body's disease, which is like Parkinson's disease, with the stalling, and repetitive movements. So, I was up from CA to Oregon, and went with my sister to visit my father at his facility. I started to sing some of my opera arias I knew, and he stopped rubbing the top of his head and leaned in a bit. My sister whispered, " I think you got him". The lady that was sitting by him used to teach Ballet, so she just cried. An emotional day to say the least, but music helped.
