A fairly slow 4.5 to stretch out from yesterday's 10k run. I'm thinking I might should have set my goal higher. I have more time since I can work from home a few days a week, saving me about 3 hours of commute time on those days.

@skippygirlsmom Lol, I would've been super-wary at the first sign of that lot coming towards me, and then as soon as the one lifted it's tail, that's it...I'd have dived off that road in a heartbeat!3

Yesterday was a fun recovery run. I have a friend running the Rock n' Roll Half in Seattle in June, and looking at the elevation graph, she was worried about one particular hill (she lives in a very non-hilly town, lol). I knew of a hill around here that I thought was similar, and in comparing the graphs it seems to be almost a perfect match, so I brought her over to it last night. He pace is a little slower than mine, so it was a great recovery run for me, and training run with a hill for her. But best of all, it was nice actually having a running buddy!
Today was 7 miles. Just a run. Nothing eventful, lol. Getting closer to my Cali trip, leaving Saturday morning! And the Tinkerbell Half on Sunday morning! Can't wait!6 -

@skippygirlsmom - when I was in college I worked at the Oakland baby zoo. We also had a skunk that we would walk. She was really mean though, she bit the head zookeeper on the thumb through her glove and wouldn't let go! They had to pry her off and the zookeeper had to get tetanus shots and stitches. I had no idea at the time that they could bite like that. Needless to say the skunk didn't get to go for many walks after that because nobody wanted to put their hands in her enclosure to get her out any longer even with gloves.0

I am glad that your husband is getting a port-a-cath. He will really enjoy having not be stuck all of the time as well. Much more reliable that he is getting the medicine that he needs. Sometimes those IV's can migrate out of the skin.0 -

@shanaber - I'm not sure what hotel I'm at just yet, my employer is booking us all as a group as I understand it but no word yet where. I'm hopeful it will be near the start. My wife can't really go with me unless we turn it into a family thing though, it is not easy getting extended care for all these kids! She didn't give me too much trouble about it, but I could see it in her eyes how much she resented me for going without her. She went to SF once as a kid, loved it, and has talked before about going back. Luckily Mother's Day is coming up so I can try and smooth things over. I'm thinking tequila.
Regarding skunks, those are some interesting creatures for sure. I have had them run towards me before also, but never aggressively. I've never been sprayed (thankfully). I just try to keep my distance, I don't want to test any limits!2 -
Those little skunks are so cute! I encountered a skunk on a dog walk a while back and thought it was a cute fluffy dog at first. We had to make a hasty retreat.

Nice run today on an urban trail that runs from downtown called the Creekwalk. I have run parts of it but never from the beginning so it was kind of fun to do something a little bit new and see where it went. I should probably have waited longer after my lunch (with a beer) though. But I was downtown, had my running clothes with me, and wanted to take advantage. All in all a pretty good run.
The sun is finally out! Hallelujah. I've had such a problem with my fingers being numb and cold (Reynaud's) the last several days - more than I did for most of the winter - so it's nice to feel the warmth of the sun again.

@ereck44 and @skippygirlsmom - I am pretty sure it was tetanus and not rabies since the skunk wasn't wild and had been raised at the zoo. It was a long time ago so it could be that she had to follow the rabies protocol.
Working at the zoo was great fun! I wanted to be a vet at the time and it was a great place to get experience. I raised a baby gazelle and a tiger cub (both were bottle/hand fed) and it was an amazing experience. It was also fun to go back and see them all grown up!
@WhatMeRunning - I didn't think of all the childcare considerations but that is tough! Brunch with margaritas could help do the trick! I am pretty sure she will still add it to the list of things you owe her at some point2 -
Oh, @HRKinchen good luck with your trail race. Avoiding those gators will definitely get you finished in an hour!

I'm almost half way to my May goal! I moved my walk that was supposed to be tomorrow to today. I have an electrician coming tomorrow and I was afraid I would miss it so I rescheduled. I was glad I was able to. They were calling for thunderstorms this afternoon but it was actually pretty nice. I do hear some thunder rumbling in the distance now though so I am glad I got the run in.
@skippygirlsmom I also had a childhood friend who had a pet skunk. It was really cute. I see one sometimes at the park, but I steer clear if it. I'm pretty sure it isn't a pet. I think it just likes to eat the catfood that the people who live near there set out.

Brand new to this app and to a challenge. I will set a goal for 30 miles for May. May sound small but huge to me! Hahahaha8

I may be recovering, but that run last night felt really good. In fact, I'm thinking about signing up for either a 5K or 10K on 5/20 (need to sign up really soon) and a 5K trail run on 5/27. I think I can do 5K, probably even 10K on 5/20... am I crazy or should I do it?
Here are my stats from last night's run. Based on this, do you think I should do the 10K or the 5K on 5/20?

Today's notes – Great weather for the group run this evening. Set out to run 6 to 7 miles with the group, saw some new-to-me paths and trails, and at about 4.25 miles began feeling the distance. Not really an injury, just my legs telling me they'd had almost enough. So I split off from the group and took the short way back to base. it was enough for today.
Then I saw the Garmin had about 10 minutes in Zone 1 and very little in Zone 2. WTF? There had been a software updated, and it turned out the watch had decided to auto-detect my max HR at 202. Sigh. Once I figured it out, I manually set the max HR to 185, but I know from the last time I reset HR zones that this will only take effect going forward. I'm left with garbage HR zone statistics for today's run. Good thing it was an easy run; I can eyeball the average and max HRs, look at the graph, and tell that my HR was pretty much where it belonged for this type of run.

I went to bed a hair earlier last night, took today off from running, didn't track my food here but bumped the intake up a bit (not crazy, I don't think), and I'm gonna try to hit the sack earlier tonight too. Then I'm gonna get out in the morning (WITH the HRM) and see what happens. I'll be wearing the watch, but trying not to let it get in my head. Might even set a run/walk interval, or a HR threshold alert, so I keep it an easy run.5

Weeks of cloudy/rainy/cool weather is making me a wee bit crabby. Mood was not improved by having to stand in the drizzle & cold for 4 hrs today to watch my kids compete in a track meet (the meet was seriously disorganized and took foreeeevvveeer). On the plus side, my daughter won her heat in the 50M and my son beat his PR in the high jump. Now if it would just stop raining.....5 -

@9voice9 @whatmerunning On the topic of the decline...
1- is it hotter than hell?
2- is it humid as hell?
3- what's your food look like? You allowing yourself to recover? Cut back eat a little more? ("100-200 calories a day, not a whole pie" she says to remind herself). How about an off season?
4-hows your iron? When is the last time you had your blood work done?
5- are you pushin' yourself least once a week/10days? Doing any play with speed? Changing up your route? Running some hills?

1 - not really. In fact, it's been cooler these last few mornings.
2 - not any more than usual for mid-Georgia. We live in a sauna (sometimes hot, sometimes cold, but always humid).
3 - just got back on the MFP food-tracking bandwagon, so prob the bod is re-adjusting to a different calorie intake load.
4 - I've stayed on an iron supplement since a few years back I was deferred from giving blood because of low iron. I'm thinking about (based on some earlier conversation) adding a B-vitamin supplement to the regimen.
5 - prob not as much as I should.
6 - !!!
How about some vitiman C? Iron needs the C to be absorbed. Too much sweet (or unsweetened) tea)?

7.7 km tonight - weird distance but the top of the Trail we were climbing was impassable due to a big mud bog so had to cut it short, turned and burned back to the Rec Center where we started.
It was a good Run. Set 4 new PB's.

From Al Adair Rec center up Pats Creek Trail. 3 different little rain showers hit us on the uphill portion. On the down hill I made a very conscious effort to keep up with the 2 fastest runners in our group. Managed to keep close to a 5:00 min/km 3.7km - Happy Happy. Taper now for Harms 10k on Sunday.
