Going to an event today where I know the kitchen will be open for food but instead planning my lunch and bringing it with me, that way I can have something better later today. It is amazing how much I plan now12

Birthday today (47!) -- and I weigh less and am smaller than I ever remember being. Any clothes that I may have from high school (t-shirts or shorts with a team logo on them) that are size S or XS fit or are even a little too big. After a few weeks of lifting weights, I'm so surprised that my arms look muscular all the time (not just if I flex ... I don't ever remember having "lines" in my arms like I do now), and I'm starting to see similar changes with my legs.
But, the best NSV I'm present to today is getting rid of things that no longer serve me -- cleaning out the basement, getting rid of clothes that are no longer "me," decluttering, etc. I was feeling like that I've gotten the "old me" back, but that isn't it: it's more like creating or being who I want. A completely new life that I am creating. Still have about 12 lbs to lose, but I feel fantastic.40 -
^ Congrats and happy birthday!
My most recent (and first) NSV was that my favorite shirt fits me properly now instead of being all snug.14 -
I ran non stop for over 3 miles this morning.... Couldn't even do 3 miles of walking a year ago...this time i ran and ran and ran...I was huffing and puffing all the way like a train, but other than that it was pretty easy, where as before my whole body was in pain. Soooo happy!!! Today, I really do not mind what the scale says (but only for today)33

I did 150 minutes of cardio every week this month!
I'm about to head out to be the health director at a summer camp for the next 3 months, so it's going to be a challenge getting that exercise in.... but it's all about prioritizing my health (I say now, ask me in a month =p )18 -
Someone mentioned before a doctor asking if they had lost weight. It happened to me too, my GP didn't even ask , I came in the room and she just declared -You've lost a lot of weight! Best thing ever!17

Yesterday I ran 10K (6.2 miles) straight!! There is something so incredible about running outside and ending up at places you would only ever think to drive to.22

I feel so, so, fortunate to be a survivor of stage III (advanced) breast cancer - 17 yeas now. Obesity increases risk! But "alive" is such a better start on every single day . . . .[/quote]
Important advice - don't let fear keep you from getting checked regularly. Ann - you (and your rowing - go WeCanRow!) have been an inspiration for me - I'm almost 6 years out, similar treatment protocol. Ironically, I'm considerably more fit now than I would have been without the BC diagnosis, because it got me to focus on my general health. I guess that qualifies as an NSV!23 -
My son an I completed our first 5K together since completing our C25K program, in under 35 minutes. I am so proud of both of us! Mom came to visit, so we hadn't been running in 2ish weeks, so I was kinda worried. We both ran the entire time.17

This is my first time posting, but I've been reading a lot of your NSV's. Congratulations to you all!
I'm only starting my journey. On May 1, 2017, at 34 years old, I weighed 329lbs and I decided I needed to change my life.
I started using MFP to track my calories and doing water aerobics 3 times a week and walking whatever chance I got. Since May 1, I have had a couple of indulgent meals (for Mother's Day), but I have tried to bank up calories so it doesn't throw off my whole week. I'm trying not to look at this like a diet, but rather a change of lifestyle. I try not to limit myself too much for fear that I will just crave, crave crave. Instead of eating whatever and however much I want of something, I divvy out a portion and that's all I eat.
I have seen some difference in the scale (I've seen the scale as low as 311, but it fluctuates quite a bit). I have had many more NSVs.
The biggest one is that I've lost a ton of inches. When I started my journey, I measured 14 different places on my body from my neck to my ankles. Once a week, my coworker helps me keep track and measures me again. Since May 1, I've lost 24.25 inches. I can already feel clothes starting to fit differently. I haven't gone down any sizes yet, but shirts that fit perfectly before are now hanging lower and way looser.
Exercise has become a big part of my life. I do swim aerobics most of the time. I love being in water and I feel like water aerobics is not too difficult until I lose more weight. I'd like to try Zumba at some point. I also have taken to walking laps around a big empty room in my office building on my lunch break and 15-minute breaks.
My kids are realizing that exercise in important to me. When I get in the car with my daughter in the morning, she asks "are we going to the gym?" For mother's day, my son made me a card where they fill in answers to the questions the teacher has made. "My mom likes going to the gym," was one of his answers. And he drew a picture of me in my swim suit
I've also been posting pictures of what I eat and selfies to track progress on instagram, and I am suddenly getting a lot of followers. That is definitely a motivator.
I have a LONG way to go. I know it won't be easy. But my dream is to be one of those people that "lost half their body weight" at some point.
Thanks for reading, and great job to everyone!51 -
Yesterday boss ordered Pizza for the whole store...I ate the tuna sandwich I had packed. Today was a weigh in day I had started my period so totally expected to have gained and best case stayed the same. I had lost an additional 2lbs!!!!!!!! I know that's a scale victory but couldn't help myself. The pants I am wearing today were supertight a couple weeks ago, very comfortable today.27

I did a 10 minute test on the Assault bike (bike from hell) back in December, and got 78 calories. Retested on friday after seriously increasing my conditioning....105 calories!!! Delighted!14

My son is going to be six months old tomorrow and we're getting family photos done. For said photos, I got this dress three weeks ago that is relatively form fitting and wasn't really flattering at all when I first got it. I kept it but left the tags on thinking that I'd exchange it for a bigger one if it didn't fit by this weekend. I only lost about 5 lbs but I look and feel so much better in it and I'm so stoked to wear it tomorrow!

You'll still never see them, but I finally decided that my lg briefs were too loose and moved down to size M. It's a perfectly comfortable fit. You might see that I also bought the first swim trunks of my life in size M. I need them for a hydrostatic bf test next week. If 55 too old to learn to swim?26

I think that one thing that I would consider a NSV is that I am actually wanting to do some sort of exercise and that I am actually making better food choices without overthinking it. It is becoming natural.20

No, 55 isn't too old to learn to swim. Go for it.

I took adult learn-to-swim classes at age 47. 55 isn't appreciably older in any meaningful sense, as far as I'd guess, especially as my 47 was not that long after cancer treatment that included 6 months of chemotherapy. I'm not sufficiently motivated to swim enough to get genuinely good at it, but I can lap swim (slowly) now if/when I want to. (I need to be able to swim because I'm a rower, and a 12" wide boat can flip over pretty easily. Learned to row at 47, too. )
Go for it. Lifeguard and instructor won't let you drown, so what's the worst that could happen?22 -

Quote from the article : "I have taught people of all ages and from all walks of life. My oldest pupil was an 87-year-old lady who was also blind. She said she had always wanted to learn to swim but had never got round to it. At the end of one lesson I got her to swim through a hoop floating in the water. It was a lovely moment."22
