Planning on losing 27 lbs in 3 months1

Hi
I'm newcon here (did it back in 2013 but have put on over a stone since then! Can't seem to shift it off) I think having a shared time limit to loose a set weigh is a fab idea as we can all encourage each other
I'm going for 20lb in 12 weeks.... Good luck everyone and keep posting your progress and challenges xx3 -
I hold about 8-10lb of water weight which I can lose and regain in spectacular fashion. However, once that is gone I am lucky to lose 0.4lb a week.
I will join you for the 3 month challenge, but will not be dropping my calories below 1500 as I know I will gain any loss straight back after I increase my calories. I am aiming for a slow and steady decrease in body fat, not a radical and unsustainable loss of weight. Will happily take any loss that the scales show at the end of the 3 months ;-)
That being said, I do know plenty of people who are a) just starting out or b) are morbidly obese, who can easily expect to lose 30lb in 3 months without any negative impact on their health.
Good luck everyone, whatever your goal or starting point :-)5 -
I think that everyone means to be supportive, but some of these comments are very pedantic and condescending, and I know that you don't all intend to sound that way.
I thought it was just me thinking that - whilst it is brilliant that people share experience, knowledge (and yes), cautionary views on here - I am pretty shocked at the sanctimonious tone of some. I am new here - Having just left a well known weight loss diet site membership and I find the tone of some of the posters on here really off-putting and whilst that may be the idea behind the posts on this particular thread - it could also put people off joining in on stuff they would find useful on other topics.4 -
So we are supposed to enable behaviors that are not healthy or go against the spirit of how MFP works? Sometimes people need to be told what they don't want to hear, what they do with that is up to them.
Eating 1000 cals and not eating exercise cals is netting well under a healthy amount and should not be done, point blank.23 -
Cut back drastically, burn off muscle, run out of self-control, get even fatter because of reduced muscle mass, see you next summer?16

Count me in. I work in KG's here, so I checked and 30Lbs = 13.6 KG's. Since am currently listed as very overweight by BMI, my target is 10 KG's, more if I can manage it. Need to be a healthy BMI to apply for the RAF Reserves, so.. this is it, now or never, do or die. Tired of the little bitty stuff. It sucks attention and effort IMHO. Let's DO this!!
This is where I'm personally starting from, this time:
5ft 3.5 inches = 161.29cm, BMI now: 33, Target: 25 = 62 KG's
Already lost 23 KG's but it took an age and now I've hit a plateau and been around the same weight for a while, so clearly something's got to change.
Onwards and upwards!!2 -
Thanks for the inspiration mate..0

I don't see where people are being condescending. I see a lot of people who are stressing the fact that unless you are morbidly obese, that rate of weight loss is NOT healthy and you will lose not only fat, but lean muscle mass as well.
Look at the post count of those who are stressing that it is dangerous, compared to the people who are gung ho about losing 30 lbs in 30 days. Those people have been here, have lost weight, have experience ,and are a wealth of knowledge. Why not use that as a learning tool?18 -
I am in as well. I have 30 more to lose. Down 30 so about halfway there. I am thinking a pound a week realistically, 2 pounds would be even better. I lose extremely slowly even with dr. supervision.0

Ignore the debbie downers and go for it. I see nothing wrong with having an ambitious weight loss goal. Just because some or most people can't do it doesn't mean it shouldn't be done or that it's unhealthy. Seriously, 2.5 lbs/week is NOT even that high even for someone who's not obese.8

Snark. Good word for it lol.
As for me I will continue to do what I've been doing. Lost 30 lbs in two months. My bmi is about 35. Some weeks I lose two lbs some weeks I lose four. All while eating between 1200-1400 calories per day. And since I'm under a doctor's care I'll listen to her.
Good luck!6 -

Thank you.
I don't understand how people derive feeling from text alone. No, I'm not being snarky. Yes, I am blunt and don't believe in sugar-coating or encouraging unhealthy practices. Seems many are just out to pick fights where there shouldn't have to be. Why are some so overly sensetive to text? It's just text. Just because someone disagrees, it doesn't mean they're harsh or unsupportive. The fact that someone took the time to actually write out a response should say something. If I don't give a crap, I don't post. Simple. I'm out to help.
I've done the whole eating low calorie to lose fast thing, and now I'm living to regret it even many years later due to health issues sustained from a few stupid months of low calorie. I've written about my experiences and about the health issues I deal with today, many years after my low calorie mistake. I don't recommend it and wouldn't wish it upon anyone.12 -
Maybe yours wasn't the comments being talked about. I'm sorry but saying things like "good luck losing muscle and "see you back here next summer" isn't helping anyone here and is certainly snarky and condescending.4

Actually it is. Many who don't have much to lose don't even have a TDEE of 2200+ as a 1000 calorie daily deficit is required for a loss of 2lbs per week.6 -
Honesty is often hard to hear. Yes, you CAN lose that much that quick but SHOULD you? My opinion is that it is a bad idea for several reasons.
-You are not learning how to maintain the weight loss and will probably have to repeat your "diet" over and over and over again.
-As others have said, you risk muscle loss, as well as other health concerns. Have you heard the term skinny fat? It is not an attractive look.4 -

That's the problem with blanketing the whole community as being snarky (I do like the word, it fits me often, but I try to control it on the forums), people will assume it's about their post, because no one specifically was called out (which you can't do anyway because of the community guidelines). If you feel that a post is attacking or insulting, report it, and let the mods deal with it. Otherwise, it is just adding to the atmosphere that you are complaining about.
As for the OP, I've primarily stayed out of here because the others have covered it well. It's a steep calorie cut to lose 10lb/month, particularly if you are not obese. Nutritionally speaking, it is very hard to get a fully balanced micro and macronutrient rich diet on 1200 cal/day, never mind going lower. Personally, I need about 1550 cal/day to achieve this. It could be done on less, but I'd rather not drive myself nuts through being too stringent.11 -

Lol I love all the judgement. Last summer I lost 25 not trying just eating better and exercising. I gained it all back however so this year I'm going to actually try to live healthier. Don't worry I'm eating plenty and I literally said I'm not worried about the actual numbers so maybe you all can relax a little.1

You know what assuming does. I actually lost 25 lbs last summer not putting effort into a healthier lifestyle just the type of exercise I get during the summer. I still had muscle lol0 -

I'll be eating healthy than I have been and hopefully hiking at least 2 to 3 times a week if not then I'll be doing cardio in another form. Before anyone says why rush the losing and put a number on it- I lose best in the summer so I'm going to try to do it then and my numbers are just estimates, I'll be happy when my body feels healthiest.
Who's in to lose a goal in these next 3 months! Add me and we can support each other and give advice.
But depending on your current weight losing 30 lbs in 3 months won't make your body be at it's healthiest. It's setting your body up for muscle loss.
Exactly why I put that last part that you literally highlighted. I'm saying I'm not going by numbers. I guess I should've added my time with losing in the past so I may not get such judgmental responses.

I'm currently 319. For me that would be ambitious but within the 1% a week. Don't go too fast.2

Im not dieting Im changing my lifestyle for the better which I previously have not. Usually I just exercise and don't change my eating. I'm not concerned about the numbers as I said in my original post. I made the mistake of not mentioning last summer without a diet Change i lost 25 lbs not planning on it just From my exercise and then gained it back. That's where I got the 30 lbs

It's actually 30 lbs in 90 days. But good math there. And I actually see a lot of people making assumptions who don't know the details of someone else's life. Or my past losing and gaining.

So we are supposed to enable behaviors that are not healthy or go against the spirit of how MFP works? Sometimes people need to be told what they don't want to hear, what they do with that is up to them.

Seeing as you don't know how many calories I eat or my exercise habits maybe you should hear that you're making false assumptions and should back off. I would understand if one person made a comment that they're worried it's unhealthy. But not knowing the details makes it hard for anyone to back that up0 -
But you are asking others to join you and you know nothing of them either.
Let us know how you did at the end of the three months.9
