Alison: I love the new photo. Beauty seems so much better off without the beast.
Dana: I am so happy that you are not claustrophobic. It will make your MRI experience so much less stressful. I hope for great news.
Heather: I am hope the virus decides to leave you alone this time. :flowerforyou: I am so sorry for the loss of your dear ex-brother in law. He has a warm and inviting face.
Pip: I love the gorgeous colors of your Airstream curtains! They seem happy.
Barbie: You were wise to get some medication to help you through the MRI experience. If I ever need an MRI again I'll remember to ask for some pharmaceutical help.
Lenora: What does BOGO mean?
Rori: Your plans seem perfect. I hope medical help improves your DH's situation.
Jenn in BC: Happy Canada Day! Many years ago we had the good fortune of being tied up at the docks by the Empress Hotel on Canada Day. It was a grand place to be and a wonderful celebration.
rdlewis: Stress makes everything harder than it should be. I hope you leave it behind and work on your good habits. I recommend adding "have fun every day" to your goals list. It has been a huge help for me.
All in all, this was a good day. I had to miss a women's party in the gazebo this morning because I had a riding lesson set up. I loved the lesson. Monday morning first thing I get to take my poor damaged car to the repair shop. They say I should have it back by Friday & I will have the use of a rental, courtesy of the responsible person's insurance policy, in the meanwhile.

Got a bunch done in the yard today, then did errands with Jake that included lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant. I always have one cheese enchilada (no rice and beans) and a large order of pico de gallo (for veggies). I eat a few chips before the food comes. When we got home we took a nap that lasted three hours so I'm awake later than usual. Pets are already in bed. Even a long nap doesn't change their bedtime.

Hello Sassy Sisters!
I am looked for my goals for June - and I realized I had never set any. Super. June was not a good month for me - no weightloss - at all. And I had many, many nights when I ate back my exercise calories - which is NOT a good thing... since 1) the calorie burn on MFP is super exaggerated and 2) I am NOT "moderately active" so I need to leave my exercise calories on the table. *sigh* I found myself going thru the whole day, doing my normal thing, and then, at the end, when I should have been done, reaching down and eating a bunch of chocolate... like 4-500 calories worth.
I have started, in the last few days, to get my DH his dessert before I even serve him dinner - a bowl with some fruit and a couple of the little chocolate sticks that I eat. I just set it on the table to the side of where we sit and watch TV in the evenings. That way, I won't have to get up to get his dessert and get dessert for me, too.
And, I have taken the precaution of moving those chocolate sticks so that I have to get up, and walk across the room to get them. Half the problem last month was they were sitting right beside me, and it was FAR too easy to just reach down and grab one… or three or four. These days, I put whatever chocolate or dessert falls within my calorie budget within reach - and the remainder across the room. So far, that is working. The last two or three days have been under budget.
I have to tell you - I had a little inner drama when I realized that I haven't lost an ounce since the middle of May - but, after reading thru the posts, here, I was reminded that this is not a diet... this is a lifestyle - and sometimes, you just have some moments when you don't behave perfectly. So… I guess I took a little break in June. At least I didn’t gain anything. July is a new month.
Goals for July. I have decided it isn’t about losing weight – but about losing inches. If I can wear a size six and have a normal body size, I hardly care what number the scale shows.
So…
Weight lifting and abdominal machine 3 days a week
Leave 400 calories minimum on the table 5 days per week
Planks min 3 days per week
I think that’s enough… I did so little last month….
**************
Barbie - Aw, thanks! I will take all the cheerleaders I can get! I hope it won't take me another decade to lose the last 50 pounds. And THANK YOU for keeping this thread going into another month.
Lenora - I am glad to be here, Sugar. I find that I do so much better with staying on plan when I am spending time with you fabulous femmes. I get too far away from here, and I get all - I don't know - not really depressed, but just not focused or caring about "the plan." So - I will try to be here as often as I can.
Joyce - The red birds are gorgeous. And I think they mate for life... We have a pair, here. It was so cute last year - they brought their little babies and were feeding them... Mom and Dad would come in and get a choice seed - and then fly it over to the holly bush where they had the babies safely tucked away.
Tere - Hugs! I know sometimes you get kind of a delayed reaction to some of the general life trauma... again, it hits me the hardest when I am tired. I hope you feel a little more joyous, soon.
Allie - I can't believe he is still trying to pretend he isn't the biggest *(*& in the universe. "I helped her move..." yeah, repeatedly, in a horizontal position. It must have been working for him for the last several years to have a live-in maid, a caregiver for his family, and a girlfriend on the side. Hugs!! Stay strong, and know that we all love you. Remember - it's time to take care of Allie, now.
Beth - So sorry your baby is having problems. Does he have some kind of a latex allergy or something? I know my DH got a blood draw the other day and the Band-Aid they put on him just ATE thru the skin of his arm in less than two hours. It's still healing.
KJ - Joacim is adorable! He is getting so big, so fast. Enjoy him... (hugs!)
Cheri - A downward trend is a definite win! Slow and steady wins the race! I am right there with you...
ORMother - I have been meaning to say Hello. A lot of folks send their kids to hang out with relatives for a couple of weeks in the summer - it's a great way for the kids to get to know the rest of the family - it gives them that deeper connection to relatives that they don't get always staying in their own little spheres. It makes "Family" a much more expanded concept. Besides - it gives the parents a much needed break. A couple of weeks of Grown Up time might do you and your DH a world of good. (Hugs!)
Kate - Looks like you guys had a great time! Gratz on no vacation weight gain. And that is a very handsome chicken! Alas, we don't get to keep chickens as pets in most places in the US...
Maia - You can do it! And yes, Diets don't work - because the minute you stop, the weight just comes back. You are right - you have to change the way you live your life.... Once I got that idea firmly in my brain, it all started to happen for me.
Pip - I agree with Katla! Your lowest day is still better than my norm. And Ayup, it's a bug. Love the pattern on the curtains! Can't wait to see them installed. Hugs!
Dana - Oh you are evil... and I think Allie should put the chocolate on the passenger seat! Ivan was a beauty! (Hugs!)
Mavis - Hello! I hope you can stay with us for a bit, I am the first person to tell you - it makes all the difference. June is the first month that I lost no weight since I started my new lifestyle... and I know that not spending time here was part of the reason for that. One of my motivators on my profile says "Old age ain't for sissies, or for fat girls" and I believe that. It's hard enough to age, without the complications that come with being overweight... I just have to remind myself, once in a while.
Becca - AWESOME quote.
Lisa - Love you, Sugar! Hope you get your head around all the changes, soon.
NYKaren - Stretch and Imagine - excellent mantra for July! I am thinking good thoughts for your side gig. (hugs!)
Lanette - DH does Kefir - but, I have never gotten into that. One of the things I try to do in my new life is not drink my calories... Although I suspect Kefir would be somewhat filling, I like to use my calories on stuff that actually has texture and chew...
Lizzie - Welcome! This site is for everyone - and I know it's not always easy to relate to the fluffy young things that need to lose five pounds and agonize over every bite of food - but, I just try to remember - for them those five pounds are like Mount Everest. I try to be kind, even though every time I see a post about how someone had a starting weight (the HORRIBLE and AWFUL high) of whatever - and that amount is lower than my GOAL weight, it's sometimes hard for me to empathize. This thread has folks doing everything from maintenance to losing and losing every amount of pounds imaginable... so, it's easier here... and the gals are so nice.
Heather - HUGS!! So sorry about your BIL.

Completed my first goals for the month ...
Friday -- a nice little 21.1 km ride to get the legs loosened up.
Saturday -- Canada Day!
We cycled our first Canada Day Populaire ... 150 km for Canada's 150th birthday.
And then we cycled a bit more to get our century.
Distance: 161.5km
Elevation: 1270 metres
Moving Time: 7:49:22
Elapsed Time: 9:06:31
Speed: Avg: 20.6km/h | Max: 50.8km/h
The goals I completed:
1. We successfully completed yet another Petite Year Round Randonneur cycling distance, making this the 9th month in a row.
2. We successfully completed yet another Century (100 mile) ride, making this the 7th month in a row for that.
And as a bonus, we did two long rides (the 213 km ride last weekend and the 161 km ride this weekend) in Canada with a club I have ridden with in the past, and got to see several people I knew back then.6 -

Hi all!
DH was retching and groaning in the night. Amazingly I managed to drift off to sleep in between the groans. I left the light on for him and wore my eye mask. I am still waiting for my turn with the Norovirus.
DDIL in Hove was supposed to be giving a talk on "Wellness" today at the school fiesta/fete. Not well enough.
I have a trip to Portsmouth planned with my friend for lunch. I will warn her that I might not make it! This thing does come on rather suddenly.
I was going to make Guinea fowl and Lentils in my Instant Pot today, but I'll give it a miss. DH on water.
I can't believe I managed the whole of my exercise regime this morning. Slowly. But I did it. For those who are new, I do 536 calories on three exercise machines in my spare toom- rower, elliptical and recumbent bike. Then I do mat work in my bedroom for 20 minutes - yoga, pilates, circuit, plus dumbbells . I count that as 600 total for my day. I only add walking and stuff if it's a big number, not just the usual shopping etc. This amount of burn enables me to eat a delicious "Mediterranean" style diet and not go hungry, or feel deprived. I am now at maintenance but I continue to eat in exactly the same way and I am very gradually losing the last few vanity pounds. I can eat like this for ever.
Recently I have managed to cut my alcohol consumption back considerably and that makes me happy. I use a chart which I have on the fridge.
Quiet day today. Just waiting for the virus.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -
Thanks for the welcome back everyone. I won't guarantee that I will be here everyday but hopefully more than my flybys every few months that I've been doing.
Yesterday mom (who's been staying with me for almost 2 years) and I went over to the hometown. We try to go over weekly to check on property, etc. Unfortunately, it usually always ends up being a day that's shot as far as totally being on track, also. At least mom didn't suggest we go to the human feeding trough, aka Golden Corral. I've gotten to the point that I just detest that place. Unfortunately, it's the only place that mom is willing to eat out at these days.
Today, will probably be another one of those days. One of my older cousins, who is looking to move back to NC when he retires will be in town today looking at property, so I'm figuring I'll take he and his wife out for dinner.
Main healthy eating goal for today is to plan menus for the week and revise my The Produce Box order.4 -
Good morning and Happy July Ladies!
Have to work all this weekend and on the 4th...at least it is a paycheck, small in relation to the hours but a paycheck none the less. I have a week off in the middle of the month to coincide with my birthday, 61, oh my, where did the time go??
June was a good month for me weight wise, I set a goal to get to 140, 10 lbs. under my original goal weight, by the beginning of summer and I achieved it. I then wanted to go a few pounds lower and maintain through the summer, got to 138.6 which was a loss of 3.2 lbs. for the month. I was very pleased. I am experimenting with cutting back on cardio(elliptical) and doing more strength training (KettleBell) to see if I can tone up the flabby bits and maintain. I have upped my calories a bit, 200-300 a few days a week to see how that goes. I'm back up to 140 yesterday and today it I'll see if I go back down in the next day or so. I'm finding that gettythe right combination of calories and exercise to maintain is just as hard as finding the right formula to lose. I would like to stay in the 130's for the summer. For the newbies, I started this when I was 57 and have lost almost 55 lbs., slow but steady. I was size 16 and now 4/6, not quite 5'4" tall. I was obese and now at a healthy BMI. I haven't been in the 130's since my 30's.
My goals for July:
Keep weight below 140
Exercise every day
Sleep at least 7 hours/night. This has become a new problem, Jake the senior rescue dog has been waking me up around 4:45 every morning to go out and I can't go back to sleep. He is a senior and I love him but it is affecting my sleep. Fortunately it doesn't seem to effect my energy levels.
Try to maintain a positive attitude in spite of personal adversity
Time for me to begin work.
Love and hugs to everyone!

Chris in Ma.~ We will have to meet up sometime.. would be wonderful to see you..
I must say the 55 lbs I lost few years ago, have crept back on, with all the stress that has been in my life lately.. I will come out on the other side, and be able to again get down to a healthy weight and maintain it,
I am very much at peace with my decisions so far, and will continue on the path the the lord has chosen for me..4 -
re I love how you are figuring out a strategy with your dessert chocolate--brilliant. Sounds like you're working the problem and glad that checking in with us is part of the solution--win win for all
Mavis I've never been to a Golden Corral but from the advertisements I can only imagine what a nutrition desert it is--is there a salad bar???, with actual vegetables??? Good luck with the outing today and let us know how the food choices went.
Planning on a quiet day today. Going to a wonderful outdoor concert with a work friend later, so I best get moving to shop and exercise while the day is young
Take care everyone, NYKAREN2 -
It is important to me to stay connected with all of you on a daily basis. I need the company of women who see healthy eating and exercise as a very high value. Out in my face to face world are too many people who say they want to be healthy but clearly put food indulgence and sloth a lot higher on their list of values. Even if I occasionally veer off the path, my connection with all of you reminds me that my goal is health, fitness, and longevity.
Breakfast finished (I eat exactly the same thing every morning), meditation is next, and then I'm off for the after-breakfast walk with the lively dogs.

Lisa I hope you feel better
I have not felt like participating in this group for sometime. I am trying to hang in. It is not a reflection of anyone here and I am doing fine. I think it might be a combination of choosing how I want to spend my time and also not having much free time. I am hardly on Facebook either. Now that it is nice outside, any time I have, I want to be in my garden doing something.
Like Lisa, no drama, just letting you know. You are a wonderful and kind group of women. I am happy for the experience with you.

Morning ladies. My gated community had it’s 4th of July celebration yesterday at our lake house clubhouse. We had water activities for the kids and lots of great food and drink for the adults. The town will ave their parade and festivities on the 4th as usual.
We have lots of Katydids, frogs, and fireflies here. The Katydids and frogs make a loud noise in the evening.
Michele in NC, sorry for the confusion. Just what I want for my funeral service. I want to have it all written down. It will be almost identical to my husband’s with possible changes in music and scripture depending on the liturgical season. Since I have no children, this will make it easy for my nieces. I plan to have a notebook that contains instructions for all financial things like investments, bank accounts, insurance, and home information. Just follow the printed script!
Kate UK, what a darling pup.
I’m off to dress for Church. Have a great day.

Barbie: Sounds like a great day for you and Jake.
Re: There are a few people here who are getting great benefits from weightlifting. Mary transformed herself. Good luck. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I hope the virus skips you, although it doesn't seem like anyone in your family has gotten away free so far. (((HUGS)))
Mavis: I avoid smorgasbord style restaurants because it is too easy to over eat. There are no Golden Corals in our area, but I've been to one in Boise, ID. Too many temptations! :ohwell:
Today is my DD's 38th birthday. She is spending it visiting her DH in Colorado where he has been working on their house. I can't send her mail there, so she'll get a txt message from me.

Heather – so sorry the kids were sick, DH is now under the weather and that virus is likely brewing in your system as I write this. And how incredibly sad about your DBIL…very young to have passed that way. I’m so glad you have good memories of him. Good for you getting your exercise routine accomplished!
Kate – I hope your surgery goes well. I am amazed at all the surgeons can do endoscopically these days. Between you and Becca’s DH having his liver stents tended to by going through the mouth…wow.
RE- always a treat to hear from you. I agree it’s not what the scale says, it’s how I feel physically and mentally AND being able to wear clothing comfortably.
Mavis – we don’t have a Golden Corral near us but there are plenty of advertisements on TV and my DH sits there and drools. I remember there was a similar place my parents like to go to during their senior years – I’m sure they didn’t eat that much but at least my mom didn’t have to cook. Planning menus for the week is something I need to do so thank you for mentioning it!
Chris in MA – I love hearing about your weight loss and exercise, it’s so inspiring. Very proud of you!!
Dana – are those carnations growing at your house? They are my favorite! Love the scent and they last a long time as cut flowers. Good luck on the MRI - they don't make me anxious but I do get bored - I try self-relaxation but that banging makes it hard to relax.
Pip – please post a photo of the Airstream with the curtains hung up! That is going to be one classy home on wheels! You and Kirby are cute no matter what your hair color/length.
Lenora – how neat the lightening bugs are back. What are Love Bugs? I read somewhere that watermelon juice is good for a person. I’ll put one on the shopping list – DH eats maybe one teensy bite and the rest is up to me so I go for the small ones.
Joyce – I can imagine the panic with Mozart missing like that. Always slays me that so many cats spend a lot of time outside yet come inside to use the litter box. Of course, our outside kitty uses the flower beds or garden…so I guess litter box is preferable. I totally understand your reasoning on declawing. My DH has such thin skin now due to his age and medications that we’d need a kitty who couldn’t scratch him as well. When he has to handle our adult cats now (trim out tangles, give it a pill) he wears the leather fireplace gloves.
Rori – so glad your DH is finally going in for a full physical! Hopefully they’ll check his Vitamin D and B12 levels. Hope the condo sells quickly and gets wrapped up without a hitch.
Menu planning – I seem to be running out of ideas and nothing sounds good anymore. DH is very picky and I’ll make something new, he’ll eat one serving then say something like it’s too acid, too sweet, etc. I know his complaints have merit but if he’s not going to give me suggestions then he’s stuck with what I come up with. He doesn’t mind eating fast food or hot dogs but I cringe that he doesn’t eat veggies. He can’t digest salads - thankfully can eat a peeled apple every day.
But I think I have the makings for shepherd’s pie so will throw one together for supper tonight-that should be good for several days and if I don’t spice it up too much it should sit well with him.
Hey, I found a good food chart in the meantime :
Ah, the Fourth of July and it can’t come quickly enough. Already the firecrackers are blasting off each night until 11 in our neighborhood – which is legal in our county - and will be for several more days. I remember when a person lit them off on the night of July 4th and that was it. DH can’t stand to hear the booms-it makes him very anxious – no doubt from his Vietnam days, and Sophie spends the night in the closet. I’m going to spend some time lobbying the county commissioners on this – there are several counties in this state who totally ban fireworks by individuals especially due to fire danger.
OK ladies, that’s it for now. I woke up at 3 with a raging sinus headache (apparently my nightly Zyrtec didn’t do the trick this time) but after 2 cups of coffee, it has subsided so I’ll head out to pump iron. It’s addictive.
Make it a great day!

mauitn, having funeral plans written down is important to us, too. There are so many different approaches and it's not fair to have your remaining loved ones left with trying to figure out what you want. We are the opposite of you. We plan to be cremated and want no service at all. If we didn't leave those directions, then someone would be faced with planning an event that wasn't wanted.
Lanette,, fireworks are not allowed in my neighborhood but there are so many open space areas around our neighborhood that people are setting off loud fireworks legally on their property and and we can hear them late at night even with our windows closed. It makes me sad that the anniversary of our country is celebrated with too much eating and drinking and loud explosive devices.

Three cheers for that also!
So sorry about all your annoying fireworks. It's a lot better down here, but in London our Guy Fawkes went on for weeks. :grumble:
I've made another rice pudding in the Instant Pot so DH can have one when he is feeling better. Also cooked some giant couscous for me. I've frozen lots of portions. Having 4 oz tonight with squid in a salad. Hope I'm still ok to eat it.
Something I remembered today about my DBIL - he wouldn't grow anything he couldn't eat. I'm a bit like that - I'm much more interested in edible plants. He grew his own hemp, but I don't think it gets to smokeable quality in our temps. He also had ducks and chickens for a while in Central London. He loved France and French food and his new partner bought a tumble down house out near Bordeaux. We visited them there and swam in the lake belonging to the chateau. My children remember that. So many influences on me. I missed out on all pop music and tv in the 70s, because I was listening to jazz and classical with him. We used to go to a jazz club in a pub on Sunday lunchtimes and listen to George Melly singing. Then we would go to a Turkish restaurant. In the days before the breatherlyser much beer and red wine was drunk.
People often ask me how I got so interested in food and some of it was at university when I shared an apartment with a foodie, but most of it was my DBIL. He knew many gourmets and great cooks. One of his reviews in The Good Food Guide went, "The marsala poppadoms were not freshly cooked" We all ribbed him for that. I also got a lot of my politics from him.
He also once called me "an aesthetic tyrant". :noway:
