I teach high school philosophy and theology. I have spent the summer learning in an amateur way, quantum physics, general relativity, string theory, and something new called holography because the kids are interested in this. And it is fascinating and very accessible. I have also been reading Quine and some Putnam, and thinking about the relationship between philosophy, theology, and science. And trying to learn Italian while driving.2

I learned today that if mice can't smell, mice don't gain weight, instead mice lose weight. I'm not sure if this is going to be applied to humans, but the use of the diphtheria virus to kill the murine olfactory sense just seems to be a deal breaker for humans.3
